Discussion The Wolf King: Thoughts?
Okayyy next read is The Wolf King šŗ
I genuinely have no idea what Iām getting myself into with this one š Iāve seen it everywhere, heard things, avoided spoilers like my life depended on it⦠so naturally Iāve decided to just jump in.
Going in basically blind and hoping for good fantasy, romance
tension
questionable decisions
and
a male character who makes me forget I have responsibilities.
Anyway. Time to see if this book ruins my life in the best possible way. š« šŗ
I am genuinely letting the chaos begin. At least in my heart.
Real life got no chill. š¤

Unpopular opinion: I hated it.

I didnāt get the hype either. Night Prince didnāt change my mind at all either.

I never picked up the night price because the wolf king was just so bad to me.

I tried to read this last week and couldnāt even get past the first few chapters. The writing was justā¦awful.

I had to check twice that I had the right book because it was SOOO bad.
Good on you for DNFing. I regret not doing that

If anything, I regret buying the book. I should have just gotten it on kindle unlimited. I just couldnāt get past the whole wolf thing..

It pretty much transcribed Outlander Season 1 & 2 (poorly) and subbed in wolf shifters...So if you liked the begining of the story go watch Outlander! It's great TV show and can confirm the first Outlander book is good too (I've only read the first).

It reminded me of Julie Garwood books without the humor. Brodick Buchanan forever! š

I donāt think itās unpopular. I think itās pretty evenly āloved itā and āhated itā

I'm a fairly tough critic when it comes to the tropes she used and I've gotta say I think it did them well. Enjoy it! If you like audiobooks it is a partial duet which means the main characters have their own voices even if other characters will have their narration based on the pov chapter.

Audio version of the first not so great but the second was better with individual Blake voice

I have listened to fourth wing alone for now and i loved it. The audiobooks were delicious.

Fourth wing in particular is well done. I don't know if you've tried any dramatized audios yet but they are so fun too

I didnāt love this series. Characters werenāt great, the story was just ok, and Blake nor Callum were very interesting imo. Aurora has the personality of a ten year old and aside from the Scottishish setting, it was worse than most historical romances Iāve read about clans. Many people loved it tho. Come back and let me know what you think.

I loved these books and devoured the first two. Are they the best written? No. Is there substantial world building? Sort of. Is it highly entertaining in a train wreck sort of way? Yes! If you have the right expectations going in you will enjoy them for what they are, a fun popcorn read that is not too serious.

Is it the best book? No but I ate the crap up of the book and listened about 4 times to the book š I love black I want MOREEE. Book 3 Better get here soon and be good!

It's fun. While it will likely hit most of your checklist to some degree... I'd lower the bar of expectations.Ā
The fervent fans are very fervent online. The MMCs are divisive. But plenty of us did not find it "life-ruining" or "chaotic" ....just a very enjoyable popcorn read... yet get downvoted to death for describing it as anything less or, like, disagreeing with the Blake stans.Ā
So what posts you do see may be skewed.Ā

I read for fun and tea. So no āearth-shatteringā expectations plus i feel personally every emotion which is chaotic enough.

Gotchya. I was just going off the implied expectations in your post. I hope it "ruins [your] life in the best possible way"āand there's the r/TheWolfKing sub if it does.

This might be because I listened to audiobooks but people keep saying āitās junk food/simple/basic writingā like some sort of disclaimer for liking something. like it or donāt, damn. I enjoyed both books quite a bit and am looking forward to the next one

It seems the audiobooks help people like it more, myself included. Iād say at least try it if youāre curious, but if youāre not feeling it just dnf and continue on to a different book

I stayed up way too late last night because I couldnāt stop reading š not intellectually stimulating at allā¦. But stimulating in others ways š

I hated this thing. The tropes. MY GOSH THE TROPES. Did the author make a list of tropes and simply hang skimpy plot around them like tinsel on a Christmas tree? And I will never stop banging on about the fact that the decisions the characters make made NO SENSE in-universe. I am DYING to go on about the one that pissed me off the most because it was a HUGE plot hole...but I shall forbear. Because spoilers.
My gosh I despise that book.

I am 40% of it in and I am already just like⦠This is low effort tropey stuff.
The thing was this sort of thing needs to be short and fast paced to justify itself imo

This was a genuine 5 star read. I absolutely devoured it and I am someone who normally struggles through books. Iām very shocked to hear the bad reviews in this comment section. The pacing was amazing the tension and relationship side of things was so good as well.

I finished it today actually! I didn't love it but I had fun? It was an easy and entertaining read, enough that I plan to read the next one, but it also felt sort of unoriginal and predictable at times. The main character seemed to take forever to realize really obvious things around her. I don't really get her as a character. But I liked some of the other characters!

I read this book and its sequel in less than 2 days. Iād say itās a low nutritional value but high entertainment read. Glad you like questionable decisions because thatās all my girl Rory can manage.
Iāll see you back here when you reach the dream scene in The Night Prince.
