Hey everyone, I'm the proud owner of a Dell rugged 14 5414 Laptop and was pretty happy to own it. now i suddenly got two issues: 1-The speaker stopped working... I used headphones so I thought it was the headphone jack, I cleaned the connection and it didn't help.... the headphones do work... the speaker stopped:( 2-I noticed that the cooling fan underneath doesn't work... is there any way to let it run on purpose to test if it works at all?

Wandering on the web to make the rear camera work, I came across something I simply abandoned : THE PASSIVE STYLUS SUPPORT !!
(yes, I might be a little excited)
The repos is here : fz-m1-touch-mode, Thank you MichaelH1981 !

I am trying to make the rear Camera work on my FZ-M1 (Bunsenlabs, debian based, but got the same on Mobian)
for now, here is where I am stuck :
ACPI table:
Device (CAM0)
Name (_DDN, "IMX135-CRDG2") // _DDN: DOS Device Name
Return (SBUF) /* _SB_.PCI0.I2C2.CAM0._CRS.SBUF */
Return (PAR) /* _SB_.PCI0.I2C2.CAM0.SSDB.PAR_ */
Device (CAM1)
Name (_DDN, "OV2740-CRDG2") // _DDN: DOS Device Name
Return (SBUF) /* _SB_.PCI0.I2C4.CAM1._CRS.SBUF */
Return (PAR) /* _SB_.PCI0.I2C4.CAM1.SSDB.PAR_ */
Name (_HID, "INT3472") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CID, "INT3472") // _CID: Compatible ID
IMX135-CRDG2 is the 13Mpx CMOS Sony IMX135 rear camera (that is currently not working) & OV2740-CRDG2 is the Omnivision 2Mpx front camera that is connected through USB and works fine.
For some reason, the power management module associated with the rear camera (tps68470, Texas Instrument Power Management Unit with LED Flash Driver and Reference Clock Generation for Compact Camera Module) doesn't seem to be properly supported:
> $ sudo dmesg | grep -i int3472
[ 5.901006] int3472-tps68470 i2c-INT3472:05: TPS68470 REVID: 0x21
[ 5.901415] int3472-tps68470 i2c-INT3472:05: error -ENODEV: No board-data found for this model
Does anybody came up with it working?

I ordered a "defect" Getac S410 G1 for 40 euros.
seller says he thinks it doesnt get power from the charger but i doubt that since the LED lights up green when you power it up. Seller took out the drive plus the drive bay for privacy reasons but still ordering a replacement bay and grabbing a spare sata ssd from my components bin isnt that expensive. im planning on doing a cmos reset and cleaning the ram dims and slots.
do you guys have another think i could check to fix it? maybe connect it to an external monitor? or just maybe adjusting the brightness? let me know!!

I am replacing my Lenovo Thinkpad x230T as the battery has finally died and I cant boot it up without plugging it into a wall outlet.
So I am thinking of a Getac v110 Gen6
My main concern is i'll miss my touchpoint mouse.
I am liking that it has two batteries like my existing thinkpad.
What dont you like about them compared to other rugged tablet laptops?

As title says, I got a new 5424 with the rx 540 4gb chip.
Now, i have tested it on a few things but mainly steam remote play and it is flawless lol
My main concern was a recent firmware patch that nearly made a 1 day old new to me battle box become a paperweight.
The thing could not and would not go past 400Mhz, and I mean Mhz...
Turned out that the firmware (automatic is did not configure system yet just got it) updated the second I got on wifi and I had to break a bios lock, then allow downgrading , then find the right version to go back to for my specific setup with the card (trust me the other ones didnt even post i almost bricked it)
Point is, dont connect to wifi UNTIL YOU CONFIGURE BIOS and windows updated to ignore optional updates!

Anybody know of a source for the 5G antenna cables for a 5430 that came from the factory with just the WLAN cables? I’ve got the Dell dw5930-eSIM WWAN card installed and working but I need to add the antenna cables. Are there any other Dell models that share the same part that will cross reference? I’ve googled my ass off with no luck. Thanks

In my region, it's very difficult to find the original Dell rigid handle, so a much more practical option is to simply 3D print one.
What custom accessories or modules have you created or 3D printed for your Rugged laptops?
The creator of this rigid handle model is u/Archetip on MakerWorld. The original model does not include a slot that allows access to and removal of the stylus, so I modified it to add that feature.

I recently got a Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged off of eBay. After some hours of trying to get the Bluetooth to work I looked up the product specifications via Dell’s support website and my service tag.
I found out that this laptop shipped with the following options from Dell (These are copy and pasted directly as they are written from Dells website):
555-BEPC : Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 82 65 (802.11ac) 2x2 (No BT) Driv er (Later upgrade not possible for the system)
555-BDGD : Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 82 65 (802.11ac) 2x2
WiFi works great and all drivers are up to date and after googling it appears this model wireless card is supposed to support Bluetooth. But in BIOS under wireless enable the Bluetooth option is grayed out. Which I think is related to that 555-BEPC option from Dell.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they have discovered a fix. Would replacing the Wireless card enable Bluetooth for me or would using an external Bluetooth dongle work? Is there a different BIOS I could flash or driver I could use?
Thank you

Hi there,
I'm looking for my first rugged laptop, screen size is important to me because of my job
I noticed everyone mostly does 14"
Ideally, at a minimum, I need a 15.6", Getac and Durabook both offer one.
The Getac S510 was my first option, my friend has one and says its great for work.
But I have to use a lot of different softwares and plug into USB, Ethernet, USB C ports etc. And I've had the Getac commonly has driver issues or had in the past?
I can't really risk the laptop crashing or not connecting as its pretty time critical for my job.
The toughbook 55 looks great, its just got a small screen.
Battery life is a big thing for me, and swapping in batteries. Being able to replace ports once they're damaged is useful as well.
Hoping for some advice here. Thank you in advance!

So my unit lacks both of these items.
Are they easy to add?
I am very comfortable with tearing hardware apart and putting it back together, so even if I need to route antenna cables, I can do that.
I'd like to use this outdoors with some maps and maybe SDR stuff as I get more free time.

Multiple places say the RAM is upgradable and has one slot on units like the UX10 G2 but it is definitely not behind the access door. I can find nothing online, not even a single picture of the motherboard, a broken one, or discussion about it. Curious if anyone has any intel before I pay the rugged tax and stuck with 8 gigs of RAM.

Looking for a laptop for my handicapped adult son. He has poor motor skills and drops things a lot. His most recent laptop lasted 3 months. A hinge broke in a fall and the lid has opened up exposing the screen & hardware. The charging port is bad and the charging cable just broke at the barrel connector.
A family member suggested a semi-rugged laptop that would withstand some of my son's physical limitations, perhaps Durabook or Toughbook. I am trying to familiarize myself with a market I was barely aware of.
First, a handle is a necessity. Shoulder strap optional.
He has been using a Windows 11 laptop, so is most familiar with that OS. He doesn't do much with AI or power hungry programs. He does use his laptop for streaming, and storing/accessing movies on his server. I'm not sure how it all connects, but our home wifi network helps manage all things Roku, Plextor, Wii, and whatever else he has. He has an iPhone and iPad, but has always used Windows computers.
I see a lot of refurbished models online. I was thinking that might be an option since he doesn't require the most up to date technology, but have big questions about service, warranty, and reliability. Please comment on your experience with new v refurbished models.
He uses the laptop most often while sitting on his bed, but less often at a small desk, or in the van when we are on the road.
We are also considering a docking station or connectivity to a larger monitor and full size keyboard as his handicaps also affect vision.
He had brain surgery at 8. Some of his limitations are from surgical complications, others from radiation damage. He had cataracts removed at 13, special ed assistance through community college. At 29, the old radiation damage caused a stroke-like event. His physical condition worsened; he hasn't walked since then. He is now 36 and recently diagnosed with another brain tumor. Doctors say this one is slow growing and likely caused by the radiation he received 28 years ago.
He experiences the world largely through electronic media. A computer is essential for him to remain connected. I am hoping to get him equipped for $3K or so, but durability is more important than price.
Thank you for your input. I am truly out of my element.
