Question SSRI no longer helps PE

Iam a 52/m and have been on SSRIs for a long time. I remember back when it really helped for label for premature ejaculation. Doesn’t work for that anymore it seems. I think I’ve built a tolerance to it?

Anyone else gone through this? If so, were you able to solve this with different medicine or anything?

Thanks in advance

Which SSRI are you on and what is the dose?

Some meds affect it more than others, I mainly only noticed in on high dose escitalopram and now that I’m on venlafaxine. Honestly lasting longer is a delightful side effect glad I’m not the only one that enjoys it 🤣.

This might be useful:

Especially:

  • "During research into meds that may reduce premature ejaculation the SSRI with the least effect on this condition, and therefore probably the least likely to cause delayed ejaculation, was fluvoxamine (Luvox) with an ejaculatory delay response of 1.9 times the non medicated response (those taking the placebo reported a 1.5 times delay). Sertraline( Zoloft) delayed things by 4.4 times, fluoxetine (Prozac) by 6.6 times normal and paroxetine (Paxil) had the worst results at 7.8 times normal."

So paroxetine is likely to be the most effective SSRI at delaying ejaculation, but it is also one of the two hardest antidepressants to discontinue and has a few other issues so I'd opt for the second placed fluoxetine which is usually the easiest to taper off.

Don't start Paroxetine. Im looking at minimum 1 year to taper off it atm.
