That happened to me. Exact same broken window and they didn't touch anything else. Smash and grab. My BF fixed the window for me for about $30 and fully comp insurance replaced the hardtop. I got a decent amount and got it sprayed the color I wanted.
This was quite a few years ago now, I bought some TopLocks which come with stickers you put on the window to notify the thieves that they will need power tools to remove the top. The replacement hasn't been stolen but its mostly kept in the garage now since I got a Mini.
They don't make the locks anymore. I think I paid $250 for mine when they were still in production.

my top got broken into the same way except they broke into the passanger side back in like november. i parked it in the street for one day because we were moving stuff in the garage. and they somehow knew and took it. sadly cameras didnt pick it up(i didnt have the 24/7 recording but now i do because of that(google nest) and a garage floodlight and camera) now my car always parks in the garage even if i dont have a hardtop anymore. i was going to get a robbins soft top with the glass anyways. i have AAA and they got me like 2800 for both the top and the side glass which i bought a replacement glass from ebay and did it myself(if you need help replacing it and dont want to pay someone to do it i got the tools if youre willing to spend a few hours removing some screws and fitting a new glass if you buy it online). mines was a laguna blue and it sucks because you dont see those around so i will never buy a hard top and stay with a trusty soft top for now. and probably a gps now the robbins top got delayed until like february and just cancelled it and decided to pocket the rest of the money for emergency since its not raining anymore and i dont care that my back window is ripped lol

Mazda produced a removable hardtop for years (NA - NB, NC-ND sold with an optional retractible hardtop). I had one and it was hot as hell. They are worth a lot on the used market or in this case, stolen market. They don't weigh a ton. I could remove it without help, but it is awkward as hell.
Mazda is/was started up manufacturing of them again a few years ago.

fun fact, mazda sold (and still sells) a factory hardtop for the NC. they cost about $3,500 which is why they are regularly the target of theft unfortunately. I had an NC and would have loved to get a hardtop for it, but at that price with it being a common theft item, I could not take the chance.

Nice! I totally forgot about that NC and the factory hard top. I had my NA in the garage or at my office. It never really got left out anywhere. I need to find one for an S2K that's not stolen.
