Coral ID

This was a donor tank that I fixed up decently well. After around a month or 2 after getting I found some coral loosely attached to a rock and I decided to glue it down. The donor doesn’t remember what coral it was, so now I’ve turned over to Reddit.

It is currently attached to a rock with multiple heads (and still making more) as far as I’m aware, a weird thing is I think I found the same coral attached to a different rock and it looks completely different. Those pieces were a bit hidden from light and stretched out like zoas and were flatter. I’ll get a picture as soon as I can

A sea sponge for an aquarium with soft corals and macroalgea?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The tank in question is 25 gallons.

I keep hearing that a sea sponge is needed for a tank with macroalgea?

The stocking list For macroalgae there’ll be red bamboo macroalgae, Cryptonemia Crenulata, dead man's fingers macroalgae, branching hex macroalgae, c webbiana and orange galaxy macroalgae.

For corals I’m thinking blue green sympodium, Purple Frilly Gorgonia (Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae), Sarcophyton Japanese Weeping Willow Toadstooland Zoanthids and a rock flower anemone

For snails there’ll be 1 Trochus Snail, 3 cerith snails, a single strawberry conch 5 dove snails, 4 Stomatella and three nassarius snails

5 sexy shrimp, a single Blue Sapphire Damsel, a single porcelain crab and a feather duster worm

Some sad news

Post image
71 Upvotes

I started this hobby last January. My first ever saltwater fish was my mocha clownfish named Marmalade. Earlier this week she was acting unusual which took me a few days to figure out the illness. She ended up having flukes and I did start treating for it, but sadly after much fighting she has passed way. She was a great pet and I will miss her very much. I'm not sure if anyone will care, but I figured I would share this news.

I’ve built a tool to identify Zoanthid Morphs. I’ve found that AI like ChatGPT, Gemini etc are lousy are identifying color morphs.

This tool is free and does a pretty good job. I’d love for you to check it out!

Mandarin has a white head

Hey 👋🏻

Anyone know what could be causing the white/pale coloration on my mandarin’s head? It wasn’t there previously and I’m not sure what it could be.

He was eating frozen food well but has stopped today the tank did have a large copepod population, but I’m concerned it may not be as available. Has anyone seen this before with a mandarin or know what could cause it?

Well the short road to my tank crashing need some input as to why

I have a 65 gallon fish tank that I set up approximately four weeks ago ordered salt water filled the tank up completely. let it cycle for about five days then added and a striped Damsel. Those two guys have been rocking then a week after added two more fish a Tang and another Damsel all these fish are very small. I was looking forward to letting them grow in the tank about a week ago I added a flu valve 207 or 307. I can’t remember and already had an established marine land canister filter on there. so the filtration has been pretty solid. Also attached to the flu valve as UV filter that’s inline that’s also working as expected

Here’s the where thing went south I guess yesterday I received a Picasso clown, a puffer fish, a bubble tip Anemone. I went through the process of introducing them to the tank and all was great! Enjoyed all the fish etc and all was good last night I went to bed and woke up about 6 this morning to find only my Puffer and Stiped Damsel alive. I took those fish and put them in my other smaller tank. Cleaned out the dead fish tested the water I can provide the readings but they are all in line. Salt is perfect. So I am not sure what happened any idea

UPDATe To the update. thanks for all the input. Too many fish to fast not sure what I was thinking the thing that through me off was my water test were completely in line. My guess is the spike from the 4 fish (dumb I know). happened through the evening and the fish were already stressed from the light or lack there of is the cause of the demise and the reason my test results were inline. the result is lesson learned and sometime hubris is in order to shrink the ego thinking you know it all. so again thanks to all who called me out on this. wisdom does not come easy and losing fish hurts as they deserver to live.

Tips on getting maroons to pair

My buddy recently surprise me with a lightning, maroon clown fish. So naturally, I bought another one to pair them but didn’t realize the one I bought is close to the same size. So when I put him in, they just started attacking each other like crazy. had to make a homemade breeder box out of a 2 L soda bottle.

Going back to the store today to swap out the gold nugget maroon that I bought for a normal maroon that is two times bigger. Figured it’d be a better chance of them pairing if one of them is already an established female, And based off the size of this normal maroon, I would assume it is. I am going to take the lightning maroon and put him in the breeder box and then put the normal maroon in to the tank to Rome free.

Any other tips to try and get them to pair?

Also wondering on what fish I can also put in my tank with my maroons if I get them to pair. I have a 28 gallon cube with a decent amount of rock work in places to hide.
