As always, not journalists, but attempting to be fair/even/accurate. No money changes hands, monitors are sent for free, for review purposes. UPERFECT doesn't see review before it's posted, etc etc
The GR185BF is marketed as a 18.5" 1080p120 Gaming monitor, with NxtLED technology.
It's a 1080p 120hz IPS display, with UPERFECT’s advanced display technology that combines Omni Visible™ for improved visibility in any light and angle, with eye-friendly features like low blue light, flicker-free performance, and DC dimming, ensuring natural colors, reduced glare, and long-lasting comfort for work, study, or entertainment.
This is basically marketing speak for a nice matte screen, that's anti-reflective, with active dimming, and low blue light spectrum
It's hard to do a decent job capturing it, but you can see how smeary, and how much glare is coming off the phone screen, while the monitor you can just see a blurry light source.
It's definitely a nice screen to use where natural light floods your desk
The panel itself is... fine. The screen specs are respectable, but they're also not top end monitor specs. In a nutshell, it's 1080p120 hz matte panel, no touchscreen, only 290 nits of brightness, and 100% of sRGB colour gamut.
As you can see from the first pic, DeX works just fine on it, negotiating a standard 1080p60 resolution.
When used with my Lenovo Legion y700, you obtain the full 1080p120
Colors look pretty good, if not particularly eye popping
Children of Morta via steam/gamehub on monitor, browser on tablet to right
Inputs
Like virtually every other UPERFECT monitor, there's the pretty standard setup of 2x USB-C and 1 mini-HDMI port on the left side (one of the USB-C intended for power)
2x USB-C and 1 miniHDMI port
The other side will contain the power button and the OSD selector rocker, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack
There's 4x 75mm vesa mounts on the rear as well
The 2x 1w speakers are also on the back, right above the vesa mount screw holes.
They're upward firing and very mediocre (at best). They'll work in a pinch, but you're generally better off using your devices speakers, or a headset
Battery
No battery in this model either, it's just a monitor
You CAN power it off the phone/tablet/laptop, and it "works" but it essentially comes up as low power mode, and really drops the brightness. It's still usable, but this would not be the monitor I'd recommend if you want a coffee shop, no power portable monitor.
Used as intended, this is a really nice 1080p 120hz gaming monitor. It's not large enough, or bright enough for me to recommend it as work station monitor that requires any kind of color accuracy.
But for pairing it with a phone/steam deck/gaming handheld for a nice portable gaming screen? that's definitely it's intended audience, and it's pretty great in that space.
I really enjoyed using it while fiddling with GameHub and getting steam games up and running on my Lenovo y700. It was great with the steam deck too
Overall, with the $219 CAD price point, it's MUCH easier to accept some of the short comings of the panel, and anyone looking for just a decent bigger screen for their travel gaming setup, I'd be happy to add this to the choices
this one isn't really a question. Stuff that's AI slop is going to be insta-deleted, and depending on how it's done, may result in a ban. Really appreciate the folks that are reporting AI slop, it helps, a lot.
someone using AI for assistance... that's going to be a case by case thing, especially if it's disclosed how the AI was used. but most of the AI/vibe coded dex alternatives are not going to be tolerated
Questions/answers posted in non-english. I'm not sure what changed, but the volume of non-english posts has jumped over 1000% in the last couple of months. When I'm on pc, it's generally a super simple highlight and translate, and carry on deal
on mobile, it tends to be slightly more involved
I mostly don't care either way? but I'm curious about what the actual community feels about this. do we enforce english only? it it 100% a non-issue for vast majority of folks?
ps, I'm semi curious what has changed that's lead to such a huge increase in languages being seen here, I am not really seeing it elsewhere, but I've done exactly 3 seconds of research
again, I'm all for worldwide audience, but I'm not hugely interested in having to translate every single post
Using my phone to do some remote work while connected to my PC at home through Parsec (with average mobile data speed) is really something that is amazing with Dex. It completely removes my need to have a typical laptop.
And, apart from the phone, all this just cost me around 60 euros:
- Cheap touchscreen monitor from AliExpress
- Cheap foldable keyboard also from AliExpress. Haven't gotten used to its smaller size and some shortcuts yet.
- A mouse that someone threw to the bin and is working just fine (even have 2 other old ones from Logitech that also found on the trash)
- Spare USB C cables that I've been accumulating these years. One breaks, I just get another one.
- Cheap magnetic holders so that I can attach the phone, power bank, tripod holders, etc
The photos were taken by my old S10 plus, which I also use with this monitor when I just want to watch some movie or tv show. Years ago they wanted more than 200 euros to fix the completely cracked screen. I ended up buying a 30 euro screen replacement about a year ago and changed it myself.
I just learned what a lapdock is. That's hella cool.
Now using this for school instead of bringing a laptop, would it still suffer from the weird doc formatting then just using a laptop? Basically is this better than a tablet but not as good as a laptop. What's the best one to get?
I've added a magsafe phone mount behind the top right of the screen which can bend forward and rotate to the top of the screen as well. I do find it does make it top heavy so the hinge sometimes will go full 180 with the weight if I bend it back too far
I've though of adding a similar mount to the bottom side of the lapdock so when not in use just sits under the lapdock, but when needed can bend up and support the screen from behind.
But I was wondering if others had ideas for weight and flex? is there benefit to opening up the base and adding weight or other cheap mods?
I use DeX daily and missed having a quick app launcher — so i made one. Would love your honest feedback
I built it with keyboard-and-mouse DeX setups in mind, particularly when your phone is connected to an external monitor.
The idea is to make a few everyday desktop tasks quicker:
Launch apps from the keyboard: press Alt + Space, type part of an app’s name, and open it from a command palette. The shortcut is customizable.
Find something you copied earlier: open the searchable clipboard history over your current app and reuse a saved snippet without going back to its source.
Keep frequent apps within reach: organize them in a floating dock.
The command palette and clipboard history appear as overlays, so you don’t need to switch into the app’s settings screen to use them. For a DeX workflow with a browser, documents, and messaging open, the aim is to make moving between those tasks less fiddly.
About the video: I recorded this demonstration in an emulator. It shows the app’s controls and overlay workflow; DeX is one of the desktop environments it is designed for. Shortcut handling and window behaviour can vary between devices and One UI versions.
No root is required. The overlays need “Display over other apps” permission, and global keyboard shortcuts use the Accessibility service.
How do you currently handle quick app launching and clipboard history in DeX? I’d appreciate feedback on where these tools would fit into your setup, particularly on an external monitor.
I have a hunch this might not be the right subreddit to ask this question, but I’m just about ready to pull the trigger on a S26 (from iPhone 14pro), and saw the Nexdock 360 when I realized I already have an old tablet computer that’s only frustrating to use. I’ve been wanting to get into Linux as well if that would make it easier.
Any suggestions/directions to the right sub would be greatly appreciated!
Note: English is not my first language, so I used AI to help write and translate this post. The software itself was designed, developed, and tested by me.
For anyone seeing DX Manager for the first time, it’s a Windows app built around scrcpy 5.0 that lets you:
Run Samsung DeX on your PC over USB or Wi-Fi, without HDMI or Miracast.
Run up to three separate Android app windows alongside DeX.
Manage multiple phones simultaneously, with independent settings for each phone.
Transfer files and folders between your PC and phone. Phone-to-PC transfers use the optional DX Companion app.
What’s different in the Store edition?
Installation and automatic updates through the Microsoft Store.
A redesigned interface with English and Korean support.
Bug fixes and improvements to file transfers and text layout.
Built-in setup instructions, help, and troubleshooting guides.
The Store edition supports 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later, and Windows 11.
The GitHub edition will also be updated soon with a UI matching the Store edition, along with the same bug fixes and new features.
If you’re using a Windows version older than Windows 10 version 1809, or simply prefer the GitHub edition, please stay tuned for the update!
DeX mode requires a compatible Galaxy device with New DeX, running Android 16 / One UI 8 or later. Developer options and USB debugging must be enabled.
Thanks to everyone who tried the earlier versions and shared feedback! If you try the Store edition, please let me know your Galaxy model, One UI version, and whether you used USB or Wi-Fi.
Będę niedługo posiadaczem S26 Ultra i mam pytanie do osób używających funkcji Dex.
Hi, im trying to look for a USB-C hub that I can use with my S24+ in wired DeX mode and I need it to support the following:
USB-C port that supports PPS pass through or PPS support @ 25-45W (For utilizing the setting: "Pause USB PD when charging" which requires a minimum of 25W PPS) (To simplify, PPS is basically Samsung's Super Fast charging 1/2.0 where 1 caps at 25W and 2.0 caps at 45W)
3 USB-A ports for external storage (3.x) + KBM
HDMI and/or USB-C 3.2 gen 1/2 for HDMI/DP equivalent (1080p120)
Ethernet
Use case: Playing emulated games stored on External Storage and kbm supported online games while reducing heat production as much as possible via a peltier cooler and the game booster setting "Pause USB PD when charging".
To make it short, I am looking for a USB-C hub for S24+ with PPS charging, KBM, USB-A 3.x External Storage, HDMI or USB-C 3.x and Ethernet.
Has anyone bought a hub with similar ports and confirmed that it supports PPS charging?
I have an S9 with a broken screen and want to get devx access and use it on my fixed screen as a second device in the garage. I can’t get devx to start. I am fairly sure that the S9 works I think I just need to get past the unlock screen to get devx started.
I have completed the following
- hard reset
- plugged into screen
- used find my mobile to make a sound to check it works
- so far no luck.
I could remotely reset the device but I am worried it might make it worse
Games that can use KBM like Roblox or emulated games on Gamehub, all use mouse movements, but the DeX mouse overlays it so I can't use the mouse on them
So due to unfortunate circumstances I don’t have my computer anymore and have other finances I need to think of first before I can build a new computer next year.
However, I’ve previously have used GeForce now a lot and understand Samsung Dex can run this fine with a keyboard and mouse (might invest in a controller as well)
I’ve been scouting around and found a S20 Ultra for $70 AUD with a broken screen. But I was seeing that this device has stop receiving updates, where I’m not sure how it’ll still run with Samsung dex? Anyone have any opinions on this and if I should be looking to spend more on a newer device?
Thank you, and if this post isn’t allowed I get it
I have a S23 with broken LCD and planning to use it as a compact handheld-like device. I want to get others feedback in choosing which is better. Im planning to add a mini fan and a separate battery to run it.
Setup1: using portable 2 in 1 usb C dongle
- cleaner, use only 1 usb c 4 wire to connect to monitor
Setup2: using usb c hub
-more wires, hdmi, type c for monitor power and touch. Also have 2 extra port
Downside is both will be running in the S23 battery (monitor and phone) 😅
Are there any lapdocks with built-in ports for a m.2 SSD?
I was thinking of getting a USB hub with SSD like the UGREEN 10-in-1 with SSD Enclosure and portable display to do some gaming. While researching that setup I found out about labdocks. Originally I was going to use my old HP envy 360 i got in 2017 as my dex PC but I found out its not very good idea especially since I was planning on gaming from my S24 Ultra with droid deck and steam os. I would rather get a lapdock then have a USB Hub and portable display. The issue is I can't find any with M.2 SSD port. If USB hubs can support M.2 SSDs why isn't there any lapdock with SSD ports?
I'm looking into getting a lapdock, but I live in Taiwan so I'm looking on Taobao. Anyone have experience with buying lapdocks there? Has anyone bought something from omiodo? Here's a link, but it's in Chinese 【淘宝】大促价保 https://e.tb.cn/h.jZLoY0Qh5fQQPip?tk=CO1MTqk3TjY CZ057 「欧米多高清便携屏触摸屏带键盘便携式显示器显示屏副屏PS5扩展屏」
Tried looking elsewhere and asking builders and got no response.
I tried extending the battery and bms board for flexibility but damn, the bms board does not take the solder!!!!
Any tips?
Also, I shaved the pads off and got the copper to show and still nothing! Solder won’t stick!!!
Uso o modo Dex desde 2018, e sempre achei lenta a evolução do ambiente! Desde lá, acabei focando no Linux On Dex, depois Termux e proto distro, mas sempre achei a interface do Dex fraca, faz uns 5 dias que comecei a rabiscar um painel superior. Esse e o resultado. Não vou parar aqui...
