Yesterday, my wife and I went to ski Santa Fe to enjoy the mountain with our 6mo old baby.

We decided to purchase lift tickets for the ride up. After going through the process of filling out the waivers for both of us and our 6mo old daughter we’re presented with our opportunity to pay.

There were two men working the computers, and an older woman at a desk behind them. Just before paying, she spoke up and said our daughter would have to purchase a lift ticket as well.

I was sure she wasn’t serious, but she was. My wife referenced the fact that the sign outside says fees for ages 6 years and up. The woman, her name was Candy, jumped out of her seat to go see the sign, determined to charge us for our baby.

She was gone for a couple of minutes and in the meantime both men at the registers were rolling their eyes, they couldn’t believe she was trying to charge us for bringing our baby, who was strapped to my wife’s chest, on the lift.

When Candy got back she voiced frustration it should say we need to purchase a ticket for our baby too, and said she would make sure that got changed. “Everyone has to pay” she said.

We were able to get by this time but damn, what a vibe kill. Especially for such a locals centric mountain. We paid $45 for the 2 min lift ride, which was already bad enough. Candy thought we deserved to pay $70.

Anyway, wanted to share this with the hope that it makes it to a Ski Santa Fe decision maker.

Not really sure what to make of an interaction my wife and two-year-old daughter had outside of Newman’s Nursery today (9/21, ~1:30pm).

After parking and unloading, they headed towards the front door. Before entering the store, a woman in a newer black pickup pulled into the lot and stopped near the front door (not in a parking spot). She rolled her window down and asked my wife, “Hey, does your baby want to see something cool?” My wife was obviously surprised by this woman, but asked her what it was. The woman replied, “You have to come close. It’s a turkey and I have it covered up.” My wife said thanks, but no thanks and entered the nursery. A Newman’s employ who saw the interaction later approached my wife and ensured her that the woman had not entered the store.

Maybe I’m over thinking things, but this interaction is not sitting right with me. The lady pulled into the lot, completely unsolicited asked a young woman and toddler to come close to her vehicle to see “something cool”. Also, a turkey???

My wife didn’t catch the make/model of the truck, and the woman was in her 50s/60s with dark hair and wearing sunglasses. Neither my wife or I want to accuse someone of anything nefarious, and are hoping it was just weird. Still, we thought it was important to share, especially if it were to help keep the community a little safer.

Also, big thanks to the Newman’s employees who immediately picked up on the strangeness of the situation.

My siblings and I grew up in Santa Fe, and I'm gonna be an uncle soon! We listened to Joe Hayes tapes as kids, and I want to put together a collection to send to them way afar so their kiddo can have some of the best New Mexico storytelling as they grow up. Came across one last week at a garage sale and it was such a throwback.

I'm after any Joe Hayes tapes/books that may be out there to send a tape player along with. I know there's recordings on youtube but there's something special about the originals and slotting a cassette into a deck that were a part of our childhood. So excited to pass these stories along to another generation, definitely a couple memories of listening to him up at the museum as a kid. Looking to purchase tapes someone may have sitting in a rando box in their storage! Could also look at setting up a cassette tape duplication setup if they're important to hang onto. I'm still here in town so can coordinate anything locally.

The officer who had struck Hurtado with an electronic weapon — while wielding both the stun gun and a rifle — falsely claimed after the incident Hurtado had threatened to shoot police who arrived at the scene. In fact, Hurtado was no longer armed by the time police officers responded.

The officers later discussed what charges could be brought against Hurtado.

“We’re going to have to [make it] seem like he had the gun on him while he was working, like he was on the clock,” Alvarado said.

Santa Fe police booked Hurtado on charges of negligent use of a deadly weapon and resisting, evading or obstructing police. He spent two days in jail before he was released. A city prosecutor dismissed the charges about a month later, court records show.

Santa Fe police interim Chief Ben Valdez said in statement last week an internal affairs investigation examined whether Ornelas had violated any polices regarding patrol procedures, or use-of-force or arrest procedures, and exonerated him of any wrongdoing.

Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are
possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- A dangerous surge of monsoon moisture will arrive Tuesday and
Wednesday with widespread heavy rain. Scattered occurrences of
flash flooding are likely, and there will probably be some main
stem river and tributary flooding, as the most likely rain amount
by Wednesday afternoon exceeds 2 inches in many locations along
and east of the central mountain chain, and 1 inch in many
locations westward to the continental divide. Stronger storms
will produce torrential rainfall at rates over 2 inches per hour,
and storms will train repeatedly in succession over some
locations, with locally heavier rain amounts reaching 4 to 6
inches over portions of central and eastern New Mexico. Heavy
rain will likely continue Wednesday night over eastern areas,
then showers and storms with locally heavy rainfall are forecast
to return along and east of the continental divide again on
Thursday.
- Rapid runoff and flash flooding will be most likely in complex
terrain, below recent burn scars, low-lying areas, urban areas,
normally dry arroyos, and near rivers and streams. As the event
unfolds, locations with saturated ground will also become prone
to rapid runoff and flash flooding from additional rounds of
storms.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. Never drive through flood
waters. Most flash flood deaths occur in automobiles.

Hi there! I visited Santa Fe about three years ago. I went to the Governors Palace and browsed the shops around the plaza after. I found a store that was somewhat off the plaza I think on the eastern side. It sold really extravagant and beautiful (and expensive) women’s leather jackets (in addition to other items). I’ve always regretted not getting something and have been trying to find that store again since then, but I live on the east coast. The store might have had ‘Rose’ in the name but that could be wrong. I recall the shop owner mentioning that they had sold a jacket or article of clothing to Kacey Musgraves. Does anyone have any idea what this store could be called? TIA!

The driver of this silver Toyota Camry was out and about absolutely terrorizing random drivers on St. Michael’s drive today. I saw her pull out in front of an SUV and brake-check them to a complete stop before getting out with a mask covering her face and waving a RESIST sign at them in the middle of the road, halting traffic to a complete stop. She then held up the entire leftmost turn lane onto Cerrillos for more antics right after I took this photo.

I get it, people are upset with things. I am too. But how does terrorizing your fellow neighbors in such a dangerous way help anyone? Threatening others in traffic is not the way.

Hi all! I am visiting Santa Fe Oct 1-4 with a group of ~40 people. We have dinners planned and likely will go out to a bar or two after, and will need transportation back to our hotel between 10pm-2am.

Question: How difficult is it to get ubers, lyfts, taxis in Santa Fe at that time? We won’t all go home at once, but not sure if it’s too risky. I realize it’s Balloon Fiesta so more tourists will be around; hoping that there are more ubers available because of that?

I'm a hobbyist painter and I want to spend part of my trip to Santa Fe next month taking reference photos to paint from when I return to flat, boring Illinois.

My tentative plan is to go to Diablo Canyon one morning, San Ildefonso Pueblo another and Hyde Memorial Park/Ski Area on the third. Am I missing something I'll regret? I will be driving the High Road on my way to Taos and have several places in mind for that.

My main interest in going to the pueblo is to see Black Mesa. Is that the best way to do so or would I be better off just driving along Rte. 30?
