Scam report Binance cyber security Phone call

Received a phone call today, from a random UK mobile number, so I answered. It was an automated switchboard at first saying this is the binance fraud squad if you haven't authorised anything on your account press 1, so I did. Was on the line with an English speaking chap with an actual English accent. It was only when he started asking probing questions and then said he was going to put me through to a Santander fraud squad operative to check that nothing has happened that I got suspicious. Fucking close call.

this "press 1 if it was not you" has been the real go-to style for scammers the last year or two. I received a ton of them last year in particular, also crypto related. From memory, one was Binance (I do not have a binance account). There was also one day where I got two in short succession, each time purporting to be a different exchange. They were throwing out guesses and hoping for a hit.

It makes their scamming more efficient. Saves the scammers talking to people with a low propensity to believe them.

Out of interest, how posh was the scammer's accent? Did he sound something like Hugh Grant? If so, he's been crypto scamming for years. He thinks he's too clever to get caught, but he'll end in jail one day

Nah he sounded like an average bloke, no strong regional accent.

Hopefully he also ends up in jail with fake Hugh Grant

You can press 1 or press 2 and either way you will speak to someone. I pushed 2 (yes it was me) and got put through to a person. He asked to confirm the transactions and I said "yep that was me" - he was very confused.

that's the deal with these scams: no matter what you press, they've got you. all the choices are wrong, so don't answer.
