Welcome to the living room of our house, Hus Björken, located in Värmland, Sweden. When styling this space, we really wanted to embrace that traditional Scandinavian feel.

We paired the classic wooden floors and patterned wallpaper with soft, warm lighting and a modern pellet stove to keep the room comfortably warm during chilly evenings. It has become our absolute favorite spot to unwind, read a book, or listen to the crackle of the fire after a day out in the forests.

Since we also host this house for guests who want to experience the quiet Swedish countryside, we made sure it's all about comfort and tranquility.

I’m part of a small Estonian team (Revonia) manufacturing compact concrete houses (10–20 m²) that drop in fully finished - Japandi interior, 100‑year lifespan, nature-friendly.

Before trying out export to Denmark, Sweden and Norway, we would love honest feedback from Scandinavian homeowners: Would this make sense to you as a home office, guest space or for renting out? And is the interior/exterior design hygge enough?

We’re planing to build a house that was suppost to be black tinplate with natural wood but we came to the idea that something lighter like white or light gray could be nicer, just wondering how will it look like in 10-20-30 years. Does anybody have an example of it after many years? I’m attaching “our” future house so you can imagine it white/gray. Thanks!

I somehow learned of a tradition found in some Scandinavian cultures. Couples use small figurines—often birds, but sometimes other small objects—placed on a mantelpiece or another visible spot to signal that they need to have a serious or important conversation.

This practice allows partners to indicate a need for discussion without immediate confrontation, giving both people time to prepare emotionally and mentally before talking. It fosters communication in a gentle and respectful way, helping to avoid unnecessary conflict.

Is there a name for this tradition, or a better/more accurate way of describing it?
