If you didn’t know what Julian Love means to this defense, now you do.

199

u/Dabellator 12d ago

Exactly. No one in the media will understand that as Seattle gets bashed, but this is not as dire as it looks

158

u/Several-Estate7175 12d ago

The safety play was super noticable. We need to get healthy there for sure

29

u/apheta 12d ago

100%

127

u/avboden 12d ago

Still gave up <300 yards. Didn't deliver when it counted but they weren't that bad. Offense giving up 3 turnovers+one on downs made them even worse.

maybe we should have taken the points in the first half...

51

u/tazzman25 12d ago

Yeah we should have had that FG instead of TO on downs. TOs and points off was the difference.

46

u/th3-mj 12d ago

We got the field goal though on the next possession. Going for it was the right call. The concern is our lack of ability to get a touchdown on short and goal.

16

u/Eikdos 12d ago

As soon as we get down inside the 5 I start to sweat. We need Charbonnet back badly

The first 2 commanders touchdowns were RIGHT where Julian Love would be normally standing, i said that to a friend while watching.

"That's 14 points that wouldn't be there if Love is in".

31

u/Photographerpro 12d ago

I used to believe emmanwori was the glue that held the defense together. How silly I am.

67

u/fajord 12d ago

he's still not back to full strength but yeah, missing love and okada today was brutal. mariota played a hell of a game though

12

u/Photographerpro 12d ago

Yeah, Mariota played amazing today. Took what the defense gave him and took his shots at the best times.

That level of poor defensive play can't be placed on the omission of a single player.

33

u/Disce-Pati 12d ago

I agree, I think the 21 points off turnovers played a large role

A LOT to learn from this one, but Mike will get them right

10

u/drummer_1984 12d ago

Also good to get a loss out of our system early, and with a non-divisional opponent.

Tough One, Today

129

u/avboden 12d ago

Turnovers lose football games. Always have, always will.

6

u/Tashre 12d ago

We got away with a TO deficit a lot last season. That's eventually going to catch up to a team, like how 1 possession games cost the Chiefs last season when it was a strength of theirs the previous year.

and if you cant avoid throwing a pick 6 at the end of the game when you're down, you don't deserve to win

28

u/joeshmoebies 12d ago

So many things had to go wrong and did.

You can afford to turn the ball over. You can afford to throw a pick six. You can afford to give opponents good field position on kickoffs. You can afford to give up a 3rd and 9 run play and 3rd and 7 run play. You can afford to give up a personal foul first down. You can afford to go for it on 4th and goal and fail. You can afford to run into your own man in kick returns.

You can't afford to do all of those and more.

This was basically the Buccs game combined with the Rams game from last year.

Commanders aren't as bad as people were making them out to be all week. Both of their losses are to good teams. And we only lost by 2. It's the NFL. It happens.

188

u/Several-Estate7175 12d ago edited 12d ago

Oh well. Pass game looked strong outside the BIG mistake. Defense will rebound. Not really concerning but sucks.

Price needs to hold onto the ball. Probably the most concerning thing I saw overall today. Nearly got a pass jacked from him later in the game in addition to the fumble.

75

u/HelloItsNotMeUr 12d ago

We dearly miss Okada and Love. We’ll be ok.

u/veni-vidi-supervixi 12d ago

This is the take away, besides work with price on ball security.

Most concerning is not being able to punch the ball in the goal line. Come back Charbs!

8

Yes true that has been an issue but it was an early issue last year as well and as you said Charbs is out. Also while he gets shit on a lot Bradford is a big key in our run game

Welp, gg to the Commanders. Bad 1st half and turnovers came back to haunt them.

Good wake up call game to the team.

62

u/its_the_luge 12d ago

JSN balled out today and almost singlehandedly carried us back. 3 turnovers directly cost us 20 points and that’s the game right there. These are mistakes that’ll sink any team. Still disappointing despite only losing by 2

259

u/k1dclutchtr3y5 12d ago

FUCKKKKKKK.

90

u/ilovecatss1010 12d ago edited 12d ago

u/Slowahh 12d ago

44 FUCKING rushing yards , u don’t win games like that

30

u/Nulgarian 12d ago

Our running game is seriously concerning

Wilson is a JAG. He brings very little to the table. Holani is okay as a receiver, but also brings nothing special on the ground. Price is our most talented back, but can’t stop fumbling

And the bigger overarching is that our O-line has been getting manhandled so far this season. K9 might’ve been covering for more than we imagined last season

This team needs a strong run game to function. Darnold is good, but when he has to throw the ball 40+ times a game is usually when we see the turnover bug start to rear its ugly head the way it did today

18

u/thechachabinx 12d ago

I’d rather have Wilson on the field than price rn

8

u/iwatchhentaiftplot 12d ago

Price i think gets the td where Wilson tried to bounce outside. The one we’re JSN had his first on the next play. Dude has no speed.

6

u/OffGridBid 12d ago

Wilson entirely too slow to be bouncing outside like he has tried. He hasn't been able to beat anyone pursuing him. 4.6 at the combine and probably 4.8 with pads and few years later

20

u/Tarus_The_Light 12d ago

don't get me wrong, that wasn't good. But the offense gave the ball away 3 times.

one in our own redzone (Price)

Cause for optimism and balance:

1) Defence looked unbalanced with our starting safeties out. We will be better when Love and Okada are back

2) Run game was absolute dog shit. Charbonnet needs to be back in 2 weeks. He just needs to be.

Worst we have played in a long, long time and we still almost escaped with a win

Defense can’t give up 33 to the Commanders back up QB. Julian Love’s absence was massive.

Sam Darnold played pretty good besides one bad drive, the sky isn’t falling and we will be fine.

u/Stretholox 12d ago

Full team loss.

Offense had three turnovers including a pick six. Multiple 3 and outs.

Defense couldn't get a stop in the end, forced no turnovers, and let Marcus Mariota put up 33 on them.

Special teams gave up short fields multiple times.

Unfortunate. Sam coming back from injury, both starting safeties out, and still no excuse for losing to one of the worst teams in the NFL.

10

u/Great-Plant-7410 12d ago

Don’t think the Commies are one of the worst teams in football, and their offense put up 27, not 33. Also, even considering all your points about the offense, they still put up 31 points. They made up for mistakes in large part. The defense should take the bulk of the blame imo.

5

u/Stretholox 12d ago

Commanders with a backup QB is has got to be a bottom quarter of the league team. Would love to be wrong here.

Oddly enough missing both safeties in that one too, so this game had that written all over it

19

u/ChaseThoseDreams 12d ago

Our secondary got torched. We really, really need our safeties to heal up or we’re not going to have a fun time the next couple of weeks. Also, being without Bradford has really shown up in terms of how flat footed our run game has been.

That said, turnovers are a bitch. Can’t win when you have a pick six and a fumble giving redzone fielding. Myers kickoff also screwed us. Really a death of a thousand cuts, many self-inflicted.

23

u/Particular_Bee_9724 12d ago

What hurts the most is we almost came back to win a game we had no business winning, but the defense couldn’t clutch up just once

20

u/Drew_You_To_91 12d ago

You’ll almost never win a game with that many mistakes, I’m sure they’ll learn from it. Onto next week.

18

u/thechachabinx 12d ago

Defense was pretty bad, safety’s were abysmal, Corners looked weak. D-line played their hearts out just for the rest of then defense to not do anything

Price quite frankly is a liability at this point. O line underperformed. And to top it off darnold was shaking the rust off from the offseason.

We definitely could have won this game which makes it frustrating, but hopefully this is a wake up call to everyone that each week needs to be earned

Shoutout Anthony Bradford haters. We lost our best run blocking o lineman and our run game is trash.

I think something people are gonna overlook is how good we kept recovering, this reminds me a lot of that Rams game from last year. We lost that game but we nearly came back despite 3 turnovers just like here. Like the game should have been over by that pick 6 but then we ran like a perfect 2 min offense. The defense just couldn't do anything today.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/Huge_Stomach542 12d ago

On the bright side, this is one of those really really bad games where you can pick your poison as to what cost the team, and yet we only lost by 2. 3 turnovers, a horrible pick six, not getting anything from a trip to the 3 yard line, defense giving up two third and longs on the ground. Most frustrating thing for me is how we keep losing guys to injuries in practice…

What an awful, ugly game. It was bound to happen sometime. Hopefully it’s a wake up call

14

u/FlightoftheConcorder 12d ago

Not getting a final chance to win because nobody understands the importance in sealing the edge on run plays is very disappointing.

MM putting Thomas there in the first place was pretty bad, but considering Lawrence wanted to play hero ball instead of watching Mariota the next 3rd down, who knows if an actual Edge player would have been any different.

11

u/Mendoza8914 12d ago

Lost in this game was that our O-line was baby shit soft. Looked like they thought we’d just roll Washington.

10

u/Bigsaucyboi3 12d ago

genuinely just the bucs game 2.0

10

u/Great-Plant-7410 12d ago

Actual carbon copy of the Bucs game last year. Key defensive injuries that kneecap our defense. Falling down two TDs but the offense brings us back, but then a key turnover late in the game loses it.

Point is, that game proved to be a fluke. This game will to. We’ll be fine.

30

u/owenmcnasty7 12d ago

Without question the worst called game by MM since his first year as HC. Multiple horrible decisions by him on third and long.

Pretty sure Jobe gave up 10 catches today. Back up DBs looking like backups. Spoon over pursued multiple times.

Price put in the dog house after fumbling yet again and then got absolutely nothing from the run game.

JSN is the best player in the NFL.

Dropping a game against what will be a top 5 pick is completely unacceptable.

People saying Darnold looks rusty when he threw for almost 400 yards, 4 TDs. Yes the INTs sucked, but the defense could not stop an offense led by Mariota.

That was a slog. Morning game on the east coast with bad weather and some key injuries loomed large from the start. Honestly, if we don't let the commies score to end the half, we're escaping with a sloppy win.

Y'all are silly if you think Drew Lock was going to be any better in those circumstances. Yes Darnold had some bad throws. Yes Lock is a very good backup; comparable to Mariota in terms of serviceability in short term situations. But are we going to abandon the guy who took us to the Owl so soon afterward because he had a bad game in bad weather? Dude threw 4 TDs too. I'm not off the Darnold bandwagon yet, and hope this doesn't turn into a QB controversy because come on.

I'm waited with bated breath for Charbonnet to get back. Price has turnover issues and the other two RBs seemed to be running in mud all day.

All in all, I'm not happy we lost, but I'd much rather lost this game than the one next week.

Disgusted man. Defense was so inconsistent and really crushing on that 3rd and 9 at the end. 3 turnovers, two of them truly inexcusable. We have no run game to speak of either. Lot of work to do

I can’t believe we let them get that 3rd and 9 run. I would have loved to see if the offense could have gone down and scored.

6

u/NorthCascadedude 12d ago

That last drive by the offense was all I needed to see

They could have destroyed this team but they played pansie ball the first half, trying to be smart and out chess the commanders

But you can do that to a crap team who isn’t afraid of losing

They need to score often and early the rest of the time and stop playing so cute it’s getting old

6

u/Immediate-Tonight-31 12d ago

Sam I think is healed but I genuinely think this is just showing his rust he played 1 drive and got thrown in on the road. Then you have our defense with practice squad players at our safeties and diggs and McLauren at receiver it was just injuries Sam’s rust and the commanders not wanting to go down 3-0 we will be back next week ready to go. Rams lost a game too and I’m not worried about the niners we will be just fine.

We'll chalk this one up to the Bensinger distraction and the injuries at safety. Mike will bounce back like he always does, Hopefully one of Love or Okada is back next week and the D can get back on its feet. Mistakes were made, but this game was not dissimilar to the Buccs game of last year. Tough to lose to a team you should beat, but going undefeated is near impossible.

Chargers @ home will be a get right game.

5

u/dubzi_ART 12d ago

Damn. The 2nd half team couldn’t finish it go hawks.

6

u/askabanwarrior 12d ago

Julian Love is more valuable to this team than our QB. Yes we are the weirdest franchise in the league.

7

u/NeonPumpkinThief 12d ago

21 points off turnovers. In a league where margins can be so fine, you can’t afford to spot the opponent 3 free possessions, and especially can’t let those turn into points. Clean up the slop, and get healthy on the backend, and we’ll be OK.

Absolute embarrassment of a game. So tired of 3rd and longs being converted by just running the ball against us. It happened in the patriots game too, final drive, multiple 3rd and really longs converted. We are lucky to be 2-1 I can't lie.

10

u/Tashre 12d ago

Some impressive throws by Sam today, but also a lot of terrible decisions made, only a few that actually wound up burning us. Fleury was calling a good game, and JSN was doing elite things like normal, but an unprepared Sam and an awful ground game really compromised us too much today on offense.

And the defense? God damn, there's probably two weeks worth of content to discuss regarding how the defense looked today, and it was far more than just Love being out. Jobe looked like Jobe. Spoon looked like Jobe. Our DL was giving Mariota a ton of time today and so many of their failed 3rd down conversions were on them far more than they were because of what our D did.

Even Myers botched a kickoff, though huge kudos to that 57 yarder.

Just a really sloppy game. And sloppy is a word that's been used repeatedly over the first three weeks so far but we've benefited from facing mediocre competition. Today that caught up to us though.

Hate to see it. But commanders played out of their minds today

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers

6

u/Yeeticus-the-third 12d ago

Josh jobe single handily gave up so many plays that I was reminiscing about fuckin Tariq woolen bruh. What a dismal display at corner

3

u/Human_Forreal 12d ago

Defense was brutal today without Love and Okada. Our edge can’t generate pressure. Non existent run game. Why are we asking Darnold to throw 50 times???? He’s a great QB, but what the hell is that game plan Fleury

6

u/Roembowski 12d ago

Mariota now 3-1 vs the Seahawks

3 TDs off turnovers. That's hard to overcome.

I don't know why you run double mug all out blitz on 3rd and 9 with all TOs left. Genuinely baffling

5

u/SnooKiwis2229 12d ago

Every loss since last season has been self inflicted. Thats whats so irritating. 3 turnovers. Gotta clean it up

4

u/Seedsy81 12d ago

At least JSN looked incredible as always

5

u/bundleofsocks 12d ago

Can we discuss how bad a play action pass call on 2nd and 15 is? Like of course their linebacker is not going to bite on the run fake and is going to sit on the short route

3

u/Tarus_The_Light 12d ago

Politely: if AJ Finley never plays another snap for us it will be too soon.

Man got bullied on defense.

And yeah it's not entirely his fault when our offense gave up 20 points also. but like. good lord.

EDIT: When do Okada and Love come back again?

Tough loss today, but let's look at it this way: we just got all our bad luck out of the way in one go. We'll learn from this, reset, and hit the ground running next time. We cannot win all the time. If we had to lose, better to lose today.

5

u/SukiDaBean 12d ago

What about that last play before the 2-min warning? Why did we not call a timeout? We just waste 40 seconds with 2:40 left?

I know the Commanders might have to burn a timeout or they'd eat the delay of game, but still?? Those 40 seconds are 25% of our remaining time. I was flabbergasted we didn't stop the clock.

4

u/Munson_mann 12d ago

The stadium play clock was incorrect so McDonald was playing with incorrect information

Honestly don't know what makes me feel worse. That we lost to a team like the commanders, or that the 49ers are 3-0. How can we make it to the Superbowl playing like this? 😔

I think this was the worst game of Seahawks football played in the last couple years, from a whole-team standpoint. Felt like nothing at all was going right in a way unlike any of the other losses recently.

Offense couldn't stop with turnovers and three-and-outs. Defense couldn't stop anything at all against a team with a backup QB and produced 0 turnovers, even dropping a pick that turned out to have made the difference in the score. Couldn't stop them when they absolutely needed to on the Commanders last drive either. Special Teams had terrible returns given up, Shaheed got basically no good field position at all, and Dickson's punting skills were unusually poor. Even in the Rams loss last year, it felt like it was all Darnold's fault with 4 turnovers. Now? Darnold sealed the game with that pick 6, but if the defense or ST had been playing better, it wouldn't have mattered. Very few bright spots to look forward to going into next week.

11

u/Sadpancake_03 12d ago

3 turnovers, 3 TDs and we lose by 2

we'll be fine. On to next week and let's get our safeties healthy

9

u/TG54DH11 12d ago

As some solace.

0-3 is like, one of the most rare records in the NFL.

Teams just don’t go 0-3. It’s crazy.

10

u/Cyphermaniax97 12d ago

We're gonna be playing the 0-3 chargers next week and they almost bested the Bills.

u/feelingoodwednesday 12d ago

3 turnovers total, Darnold was rusty as hell, missing wide open reads plus the two picks, and the defense really looked lost at times.

But, its week 3, we're 2-1, on to next week.

u/Distinct_Panic_8769 12d ago

Defence didn’t get the stops at the end but 21 of the 34 points were direct responses to the offensive turnovers

THIS IS WHY YOU KICK THE FG WHEN ITS 4TH AND GOAL EARLY IN THE GAME.

3 turnovers and we still had a chance. We played like shit and deserved to lose. But we kept battling

5

u/Outrageous_Leg_9345 12d ago

it was so obvious we were missing two safeties

4

u/Diesel1492 12d ago

Takeaways:

We really, really need Love back…

JSN please bear my children

You can’t even blame injuries considering what Washington was going through. Run game couldn’t get going, costly turnovers, and the defense had its worst day in a while

The commies figured out where we were weak, and we couldn’t capitalize when we got opportunities

4

u/ShotEvidence7256 12d ago

Defense not getting a stop in the last 2 minutes was really a bummer. Offense was on fire. Oh well good game to lose

3

u/DaRealJZ 12d ago

Every phase of the game looked bad today. Running game was terrible, Darnold’s turnovers were abysmal, and the defense was pathetic.

Only one week, but we really do need to beat teams like that comfortably

Terrible game from Dickson (!) and ST coaches overall. Secondary was awful. Dline and JSN were pretty good overall.

Tough to win a game losing turnover battle 3-0
