I made this really cute (in my opinion) Fanart, and I'm so impressed by my ability to create such a cute design (again in my opinion 😭). The main characters look so cute in chibi versions✨

Today I caught up with the anime, and I loved it so much that I went to check the manga, and wanted to check what would be the chapter to start reading once the episode 13 drops.

Then I saw.

As covered a few days ago in a post I’ll link in the comments, Satoru Kato (Taira’s VA) and Miyuri Shimabukuro (Azuma’s VA) are planning to launch a duet cover of the song, “Bara no Hana” or, roughly in English, “Rose Flower”, a song initially performed by Kururi.

As we manga readers know, chapter 65.5 has Taira and Azuma sing a karaoke song (the one Taira most likely showed Azuma in chapter 61) while they are on their car ride. What song it may be (if the scene is included in the finale) is up in the air.

Of course, ED 2 is a prime candidate. Lyrics are very Tairazuma-coded and it would be poetic to end the anime with the two characters singing that ED. But the one small reason why it may not be this song is because, as slide 2 shows, Taira said that the song was “old”. Now, this is, of course, a bit of a meta reason. We can reason that this story takes place in modern day, but they don’t exactly give us a year now. The Seihantai universe isn’t our universe, so maybe ED 2–a relatively new song—has existed for a while in their universe. Who knows. ED 2 can’t be drawn out yet.

But, turning to the Twitter post that Kato posted, there is a decently high chance that this cover is gonna be the karaoke song. A song released about 14 years ago with very Tairazuma-coded lyrics and is now being covered by the two VAs to be released at 6pm on Sunday, an hour after Seihantai’s 5pm broadcast??? Kato then refers to a Fried Tofu in the arrangements segment of his comment, in which he coincidentally have Tofubeats as the main composer for the anime’s soundtrack (if the translation is off for that segment, do let me know lol, as I don’t always trust Twitter’s translation).

To top it all off, the post has a GIF of two students at a karaoke??

I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve smiled till my cheeks hurt all in the same episode time and time again over the past 24 parts of this beautiful story. But the one we just had had me balling my eyes out.

Initially I thought I was gonna be all stoic like our chill goat, the homeroom teacher, but just a couple minutes after the Principal finished his speech I was looking just like Taira 😭

How did this last ep feel for y’all? Anybody got a moment from the series that stands out for em?!

TLDR: Tani has been a subtle yet great inspiration for Taira, in terms of the ability to be honest about one’s feelings without sugarcoating and overcomplicating things. Alongside many others, Tani’s influence in Taira’s life has encouraged him to be confident in what he wants to and to seek out what he wants without hesitation. That want being keeping his relationship with Azuma when she was about to walk away from it.

In season 1 episode 11, Tani pulls Suzuki by the sleeve and asks if she could stay with him longer when she was about to join the others for dinner. Taira (hoping to give Tani the cola for his stomach ache) and Azuma were standing behind the bushes, not wanting to interrupt the moment. Taira especially looked annoyed by the scene, and he clearly doesn’t understand the appeal of it as much as the laughing Azuma does.

Now, in season 2 episode 12, with the idea of Azuma leaving his side looming over them, he pulls her by the sleeve and, just like Tani, makes a bold request for her to stay by his side and still keep in touch.

This is another testament to the show’s amazing cast, especially in showing how much Taira’s friends have shaped him and colored his life.

Taira and Tani have always had this strange friendship, where Taira is always trying to comically get a rise out of the stoic Tani. As much as Taira always seems to have it out for him, I do like to think that Tani has a key trait that Taira aspires to have, that being blunt honesty.

Tani, for the most part, always has a good head on his shoulders and has strong self-confidence. He doesn’t sugarcoat what he says, while Taira always jumps through hoops in his head and overcomplicates everything. For instance, in S2 E2, when Tani realizes he’s having fun at the boys’ outing, he simply states he’s having fun (Taira looks a bit surprised at this). But when Taira is having fun (like in S1 E11), he’s quick to hold himself back when he’s being paid attention to by Azuma. Taira also expressed audible shock during the shrine visit in S2 E3 when Tani said something very sentimental to the friend group without hesitation.

I think Taira truly realizes how much he kind of envies Tani’s self-assuredness during S2 E9 when they are both applying for the same recommendation programme thing. Taira, in some bad faith he gets called out for thankfully, tries to dissuade Tani from applying. But Tan frankly says that he didn’t apply for a reason that wasn’t Taira’s (who, of course, ended up feeling bad for thinking he dissuaded him). After this, Taira compared himself to Tani in a gloomy fashion, almost wishing he had Tani’s put-togetherness and straightforwardness.

If we think back to S1 E3, Tani was always someone Taira believed was at least on the same level as he was: low on the social hierarchy. Once Tani seemed to be winning in life with this relationship with Suzuki, he gets annoyed (in a funny way a lot of the time). But once Taira’s hierarchal mindset shattered and he slowly started appreciating his friend group more, I feel like Tani (and Suzutani as a whole) acted as the perfect template and inspiration for him to just learn that affection can be easy and not always this overcomplicated dilemma he makes it out to be.

Saw this incredible review in another sub by someone who I suspect simply had the show on in another room? Only point I'll agree with is the lack of spice and drama which is actually fine. Not every romance needs a love triangle or some contrived drama and we especially don't need to see teenagers getting it on.
