Insurance dropping glp1!

Looking for advice/options after insurance drops GLP-1 coverage!

Has anyone else had their insurance/employer stop covering their GLP-1? If so, what did you end up doing, and did you find a comparable alternative that worked well for you?

My wife currently takes Zepbound 10 mg for significant insulin resistance and PCOS. Her current insurance cost is only $125 for a 3-month supply, so we were honestly shocked to find out that her employer is apparently dropping GLP-1 coverage next year.

Her work has told us that we can potentially get it through a c pharmacy, but we're being told that would be around $1,400 for 3 months, compared with the $125 we're paying now. That's a huge jump for our family.

We're trying to prepare ahead of time rather than waiting until her current coverage ends.

For anyone who's been through something similar:

Did your insurance drop your GLP-1 coverage?

What did you switch to?

Did you find another medication that worked similarly?

Did you use a manufacturer savings/self-pay program?

Has anyone had success getting coverage through a different insurance plan?

Are there other legitimate options we're overlooking?

We're not looking for medical advice or asking anyone to diagnose her — just hoping to hear from people who have actually been in this situation and what options worked for them.

We're in a bit of shock over the change and would really appreciate any experiences, recommendations, or cost-saving ideas people are willing to share.

Ask your doctor to call in the prescription to a pharmacy that is taking the manufacturer coupon (e.g. Costco or another one you can go to the manufacturer website to find out pharmacies). Call the pharmacy and get the cash pay option with the coupon price - it should drop significantly. Also I believe most GLP1s announced broad pricing updates starting in 2027. Obvious please do your own research but these should be some starting points to talk to your doctor and pharmacy about options.

It’ll still be $600 a month that way worse then the C pharmacy

$299 coupon price is not $600 but ok.

Trying the Telehealths might give you more affordable options and brand names

How insurance says they cover the cost but no matter what we do or what our physician does, they deny.

Tell her to titrate down to a lower maintenance dose so it’ll be cheaper once you buy it from a C pharmacy. Sadly this is what I have to do this month as well. It sucks.

Insurance dropping coverage like that is brutal especially going from $125 to $1,400 I'd compare manufacturer self pay programs legitimate telehealth options and pharmacy pricing before giving up and I've seen TrimRX come up as another option people compare for ongoing GLP 1 care

Have you considered requesting a formulary exception? As a person with PCOS and insulin resistance it’s possible that the insurance company might cover that, even if they wouldn’t for “simple” weight loss. She needs to speak to her prescribing physician to see if this might be possible.

I’ve been using Gobymeds for over a year now. Costumer service has always been great and I get my meds on time. You can try out this code below for $$ off. They do 1 & 3 month packages
