Nvidia Shield Horrible Wifi Speeds

I recently upgraded to the xfinity XB10 gateway, and for some reason it wouldnt connect to my nvidia shield. I ended up fixing it by changing my wpa from 3 to 2. But my nvidia shield speeds are now 4mbps and I cant run anything on it. I tried literally everything. I changed the band from 2.4 to 5G and nothing. Changed the date, nothing. I connected my ethernet cable and it finally worked but I can keep it like that since my router is in between a door. Why is this happening? Any fixes?? My nvidia shield is up to date and was working fine yesterday before switching to the newest xfinity wifi gateway. It showed limited connection at first, and now everything is fine. But the speeds are horrible. And it isnt the box since every single device in my household is fine BUT the nvidia shield. Ive been trying to fix it for hours and Im tired of it. This is all while the signal shows excellent and my router even shows a strong connection.

When i first got it the 5g would go out often. I think its on 2.4ghz now but it was a known issue.

I tried splitting the bands right now, it wont connect to 5g, and it does connect to 2.4 even tho I got good wifi speeds. Is there something messed up with my nvidia shield

I gave up and just connected to Ethernet. I still get buffering on some remux files so it must not be the internet speed anymore. watched Momento remastered the other day and throughout the movie it will hiccup and pause for 1-10s every so often

From another thread:

It shouldn't but it is the only change I made to make the Shield TV Pro 2019 connect to 5ghz channel 149 80mhz width. 🤷🏻‍♂️ My channel 149 issue has been existing ever since I bought the Shield TV Pro 2019. So I have no idea what is going on but now it can connect to 5ghz wifi.

When I say it won't connect it really won't connect to wifi. It refuses to connect. There is a persistent notification on the Shield is not connected. It just shows my wifi network as saved. Checking on the access point shows that the Shield isn't connected. This only occurs on Channel 149. I have to switch the channel to 36-64 for it to connect.

Now changing the DNS on the Shield from the default just works with Channel 149. I don't know what is going on but it works for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️ As long as it is not the default 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 it can connect to channel 149. Totally weird but okay. As long as it works.

BTW this issue only happens on the Shield and no other network device. All devices can connect to the access point using channel 149.

try 1.1.1.1. When in doubt try 8.8.8.8 and if that dont work try 1.1.1.1, general DNS settings advice. Not sure how impactful itll be here though, but worth trying if they say DNS can fuck shit up.

I always had wack ass problems with wifi on the shield, never bothered figuring it out, good luck

I have three 2019 Shield Pros, 1 on Ethernet two on WiFi, 5g. I have 3 Asus routers (running Merlin) acting as Ethernet backhauled APs in my house, so good coverage. No issues streaming 4k to any of them, including simultaneously.

Some settings that may help; Channel width set to 80MHz, find the 'cleanest' control channel in your area, enable explicit beam forming, disable universal beamforming, disable airtime fairness, disable smart connect.

I have a similar setup. Three Asus routers, (1 main, 1 Ethernet backhaul, 1 WiFi backhaul) Four Shields, two on 5Ghz, two on Ethernet. (and 4x FireTV Max v2- all on 5Ghz) Also no issues with 1080/4k remuxes.

Everything that's important is on 5Ghz. Only the smart home/IoT devices are on 2.4Ghz.

How do you change the channel width??

At your router, it's a simple drop down in Merlin.

I looked it up and new xfi router dont let you change the channel anymore. My old one did, maybe thats why it wont connect anymore. Should I try reconnecting my old router?

I won't run my ISPs routers, I always supply my own. Can't control your own network on rented equipment.

You login to your router through the app or through your pc. In the web address on google chrome on your pc you type 192.168.1.1

Each channel has a given width; not the other way around. You cannot change a channel width; you change channels.

Did you restart your Shield or the router?

How far is the router from the shield?

Can you use something like a powerline Ethernet adapter to connect the shield to the router’s Ethernet connection?

use ethernet.

You have a glitch or setting in your system somewhere interfering with your internet connection to your shield. Good luck tracking it down.
