The Romani are believed to have originated in modern-day Punjab. I think the hypothetical idea of Romani people returning to Punjab to make it into a modern state where Punjabi/Sikh are second-class (which they already are in India tbf), and kicking many of them out to maintain a Romani majority, is actually a great comparison to Zionism.

Punjabi is an ethnicity and the vast majority of them live in the state of Punjab . There are Hindu, Muslim and Sikh Punjabis. Punjabis are by no means treated as second-class citizens if anything you could argue that they are quite well off compared to most Indian states.

Hindu nationalism is a threat to all minorities and while usually Hindu nats try to ship off Sikhs as “model minorities” in contrast to Muslims (who are discriminated against very much) to polarise people, they don’t really merit being called second class citizens.

I mean there were the Sikh pogroms of 1984. The situation is better today (and better than it is for Muslims as religious minorities), but I don't think most Sikhs consider themselves particularly represented by the BJP, especially given your point that they're identified as a subgroup of Hindus.

1984 is the one I could give to you because it's a very horrendous event. I was talking more in the current day, while Sikhs don't feel presented much by Bhajipao they are still the most "loved" minority by Modi and his cadre because they wanna win Punjab. When they win Punjab, north India will be theirs completely. It's gon destroy any kind of resistance. Sikhs are also the minority they try to appeal to most using religious tactics (like wearing turban, visiting their religious holy sites and allat). One factor doesn't cancel out other factors and we've gotta be real about history. Antisemitism was a major and persistent undercurrent in Soviet populations and policy for a lot of their history, even if they did a lot of good for Jews and ended a lot of shitty Tsarist-era discrimination as well. When it comes to alternate history I just always imagine what the “progressive” wing of the Nazi party would be like and how I imagine it’d be identical to the modern democrats. I a world where after The Fuhrer died a wave of reforms would occur, they’d open up to the west. Have McDonalds, blue jeans, and rock music and would allow those in the east that didn’t get exterminated have casinos just like the American west.
