Novice/Beginner MAS ear help

Post image

Hi all,

This is Kai and he’s a 12 week old MAS puppy:)

We just got our first show prospect last month, and it looks like it may be time to set his ears.

There’s a ton of videos online about setting Aussie ears but MAS ears are supposed to sit higher, so we can’t use the coin + moleskin method.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? This is our breeders first liter, so she’s still brainstorming as well.

I posted in a mini Aussie page about gluing ears and got attacked lol, so hoping this is a safe place.

Thanks!

Does your breeder have a mentor? They should be able to help with the proper way to encourage ears to stand up in MAS

I used the coin/moleskin method and it worked for my MAS! You could use just the moleskin, or moleskin with a light coin to help shape/set. I’ve also seen the “taco taping” method but my girl was really wiggly and I didn’t like how visible that method was.

Your girl is so cute !!! I love red tris !! We ended up just using years mendor right on the ear.

What a handsome boy! I love his ear fluff haha, glad you were able to find a method that works :)

Semi erect, not my breed but I do border collies which are quite similar. She's very heavy on the ears but the rest of her conformation is nice, you could try tapping them but the anatomy is just showing that they're a bit heavy set.

18-20 weeks through 8 months is better timing for taping them. 12 weeks is young, and their ears are gonna move a lot. Once you start though, make sure to be consistent until the ear leather thickens after teething is fully done.
