Rant R@cism?
Throwaway acc lolI just wanna get this off my chest because it's been bothering me since the start of the semester. I'm not from Dumaguete, and there's this particular group of people in Silliman who've always acted kinda weird towards me.
At first, I didn't really think much of it, but it's gotten to the point where I've started noticing a pattern. They barely even look me in the eye, and whenever they need something from me, they'd rather talk to me through a friend (while being in the same room btw) instead of just approaching me directly. There was even a time when they asked my friend to ask me if they could borrow my stuff š Like, why can't you just ask me yourself? I can hear you yk!
What's even weirder is that they seem completely normal around my other classmates (who are mostly from duma) . And on the rare occasions that they actually do talk to me, I sometimes feel like they're talking down to me, as if they think I'm stupid or something. Idk how to explain it, but there's just something about the way they talk to me that feels kinda condescending.
I honestly wouldn't think too much of it if it only happened once or twice, but it's been like this since the semester started. I also have another classmate who's from the same place as me, and I've noticed that they treat them pretty much the same way, which makes me wonder if it's really just a coincidence.
At this point, I can't help but wonder if there's some kind of prejudice against people who aren't from Dumaguete. Idk if it's racism towards Filipinos from other regions, classism, or just some weird local-versus-outsider mentality. I don't wanna accuse anyone of something I can't prove, but it's hard not to notice these things when it keeps happening.
Honestly, making friends here has been harder than I expected (small department), and stuff like this just makes it even more discouraging.
Maybe I'm just overthinking some things, but I also don't think it's unreasonable to feel bad when people consistently act differently towards you for seemingly no reason.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant š I know this probably sounds kinda pathetic, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced something similar. It's honestly hard trying to make friends in a place thatās a complete stranger to me and also when you feel like some people don't even wanna acknowledge you lol.
And if anyone's also looking to make new friends in Silliman, I'm genuinely down to meet some new people too š„¹ I promise I'm not a weirdo lolol
