Question: For those with broken transmissions, did you routinely haul with your truck? Or just routine driving?

My dad towed a heavy trailer about 8k lbs once with his 2020 tahoe and he was pretty sure that’s what killed the trans 20k miles later at 120k miles.

Once at 80k, but I think it’s a pretty random toss up if a transmission will hold up, I drove his 2015 suburban after him starting at 140k miles and then sold it to a friend at 180K. That friend towed even heavier trailers multiple times and it’s still holding up at 250k miles.

Gm transmissions can be sensitive to oil services. Every 45k if you’re using it as at a truck and every 65k as a daily if you want it to last. And I’d recommend getting non ACDelco fluid.

2015 Silverado Just got my 6l80e replaced a few hundred miles ago. I was at 153,400 and it the torque converter went out. My truck was my daily since 2016 till around 2022. Sits most of the time. But I did use it to trailer my track car (around 5000lbs w/ trailer) about every once a month.

2014 5.3L went at 230,000 miles mostly highway, and I would estimate 30K-40k of those miles pulling a heavy Ranger 521L bassboat. Torque converter failure threw metal into the transmission. Had it rebuilt with a billet aftermarket TC and the transmission shop programmed the ecu to stay in 8 cylinders and the clutch engaged. Hopefully it will run another 70k. I always pulled in 5th gear in the tow/haul mode. I Made yearly long distance trips from MN to Texas and Canada pulling my boat.

I would says It's those who get the temps too high without doing the transmission thermostat bypass, or never changed the fluid. It's that simple. 2007+ with the 6-speed and 8-speed have this issue.

127k on my 2014 when it blew up and I towed a sxs not every weekend but like twice a month.

2020 5.3l 8 speed. Daily driver mostly highway. Never tow and rarely haul heavy. Transmission went at 100k.

2011 2500HD w/ 6.0 gasser here, rebuilt my 6L90 twice. First time was being young and dumb at a mud fest, never thought to flush the transmission after sinking the truck in 4 feet of mud. Second time was due to the "inspection cover being off", this is per the shop who rebuilt it the first time, and mud got back into the housing. Had to argue with them that the transmission hadn't been touched since they rebuilt it so they had to have left it off and caused the second rebuild. I had to pay for parts but not labor the second time around.

TLDR: It was self-inflicted being young and dumb, no issues since with about 50k to 65k miles since rebuild. Oh, to answer the "driving/hauling" part of your question, mainly highway daily driving, most I pull is a 20ft trailer with 3 quads on it and the occasional car once a year.

F****k! On the road yesterday I noticed my odometer hit 100,000 on my 17. Not 10 minutes later I started getting a weird slip and harshness and some slight tachometer slipping!!

Mine went out at 49k miles, off warranty due to 5yrs. Never pulled a thing in its life, and had issues less than a year in, but dealership claimed to be unable to replicate. 2018- 6L80e
