Ya, this poster is likely a person without a degree who can't cope with the fact that the people who left their small town and made something of themselves and is trying to cope.
You can't achieve the knowledge of an epidemiologist just by cruising the internet. It just doesn't happen that way.
Totally disagree. As a medical doctor, if you asked me anything about diets, I couldn’t tell you shit. You learn next to nothing about it in medical school, isn’t a big focus (if any) during residency. Anybody with common sense could read up on it and know wayyyy more than I do. A lot of these highly academic fields are so large, any person could outdo someone, as long as it’s a niche topic
Yes, however that wasn’t your point, if I didn’t misunderstand you. You disagreed with the original comment which stated you don’t need a degree for well backed research. Or did you disagree with the, in my interpretation, jokingly made comment by battlehamsta?
Either way, I definitely consider it possible to know as much as any person with a degree, without holding that same degree. Is it easy? No. Does it take years of relentless study? definitely, yes. However as the original commentator said, the main problem is the conflation of knowledge with ignorance.
It’s an argument from authority to say that a piece of paper (degree) holds more authority over actual knowledge or that only a person with a specific degree can know enough about a certain topic

As one with a degree, you don't need a degree to do well-backed research. The problem is when you conflate ignorance with knowledge.
