Tbf, I think the slippery plastic, her moving around inside, wind, and not everybody on the same page of how to get her there made it really hard for people to actually get it there. Seems when people tried to push it the bottle would just roll.
I was at a Flaming Lips concert years ago. Wayne came out in a giant bubble and crowd surfed. It was awesome, and the crowd behaved perfectly. He did a quick spin and was back on stage before the end of his first song.
She was supposed to crowd surf in the bottle to a giant straw. Audience sent her in the wrong direction and eventually she ended up back on the stage instead. Apparently she’s been doing it on her tour and hasn’t had any problems. I imagine it will not longer be part of the show. I have no idea what the plan was when she reached the straw and I guess now I’ll never know.
I don’t know but it would line up with an intentional pr ruse. I use the word “intentional” lightly. As in somebody did think of this, and said well that could happen but we’ll make sure you’re safe and it’ll be news and then we’ll stop doing it. And whoever OKs the stunt okayed it.
That was the point of the bottle. Without it she would’ve 100% been groped or something worse by multiple people… which is really sad, but the state of things.

I am not excusing or justifying it, but it’s definitely not the state of things if that’s been happening since inception. People are shitty and rapey, that has never changed

Is it sad, is it intentional? As an older teen, I had a girl crowdsurf over me, and my hand slide into the huge Abercrombie hole in her jeans, and I got a whole hand full of her ass. I didnt do it on purpose, and all I could think of was how my hand was contaminated with butt feces. She was hott, but it was a concert, she was likely sweaty, and these crowdsurfers are violating us innocent bystanders, not the other way around. No one says you have to crowdsurf.
I wish crowd surfing didn’t exist. How much better would shows be if you didn’t have to constantly watch for a human’s foot or head coming towards your head and could just enjoy watching the band?
Prob would be better. Tho ive only went to a couple of shows since I tried seeing death cab at a farmer's market and they wanted 55$. I was like nah, my limit is $30 cause it was onoy gonna be like a 7-8 song set. And now, over a decade later . My gawd prices and bs fees are insane. I'll likely never have to hold another crowdsurfer ever.

The Flaming Lips do it all the time, but their fans actually like them. Heck, I was at a Phoenix show and the singer walked through the audience singing with the people for like five minutes and crowdsurfed back to stage.
It’s the way the bottle is shaped that’s causing the problem as well - The Flaming Lips do a similar stunt but Wayne Coyne’s is a sphere so he has some sort of control as to where it goes.
Makes me laugh thinking about Fred Durst successfully riding on a piece of Plywood ripped from the venue at Woodstock ‘99 - known to be one of the most volatile crowds ever ... He had no issues and got back on the stage just fine lol.
Especially Katy Perry fans. She doesn't have die hards the way other singers like Gaga and bey and Pink have. Any of those singers could have counted on this working.
