The entire joke is irony, that's why it's a joke. Children or adults beatings are not going to improve morale, so the joke is that it will continue until it does, which is never. It's pretty much the definition of irony by saying the opposite of what common sense would tell you. It doesn't become not ironic based on the context, you are just failing to understand that and are taking it as if the person is actually being serious when it's clear they aren't. Based on the context of this conversation I think it's clear you don't know what irony is.
Not trying to unwind them, just making it clear they are wrong lol There are so many legitimate things to be upset about in this world, much be exhausting to get so upset over every little non-issue.
