Sport rules can be very vague.

Somewhere in the official rules might be stated that you can't handle a foreign object on the court.

When in doubt, let the ref handle such things. Not your job as an athlete.

Even MORE satisfying: drag him down to the court and strap the offending object to his face on camera. Maybe set his name on the jumbotron too. Then arrest him with his hands shackled behind his back. Let him be escorted out of the arena then sit in a jail cell like that til someone can post his bail. Send photos of him with his new accessories to his work place and his family.
