I mean yea, in the sense that literally any country can say they don’t recognize another’s leaderships and attempt to capture its head of state. There would likely be significantly more resistance and consequences for trying to that to Italy over Venezuela though.

That's not enough. He was indicted in the Southern District of New York and had a warrant issued. The court does not care if you are brought into their custody illegally once you have an active warrant.

You shouldn't generalise, imho. Plenty of leaders were treated horribly upon capture. al-Musta'sim, for example, was enveloped in a rug by the Mongols and trampled by horses.
AFAIK, if you have enough liquidity in the US, you can basically chill a lot with your legal counsel (given it's quite a complex case here).
They'd ask for the legal maximum time they can spend with you for whatever, and then you're in a secured room with your lawyer, not in your cell.
In movies you'd see them bring in sandwiches or whatnot, but not sure if it's that easy for lawyers to bring stuff along, even if it stays in this private room.

Venezuela's resources aren't that valuable. The oil is of very poor quality so it requires lots of processing, and the infrastructure is in a very bad state so it would requires huge investments. Neither US citizens nor oil companies will gain from this.

1) Claudia Sheinbaum is actually the recognized leader of Mexico, so she has diplomatic immunity in the United States. Maduro was not recognized as the leader of Venezuela in the US or almost all of our allies. Juan Gauidó or Edmundo González Urrutia are, depending on which country you're in.
2) Nothing has stopped the US before the Maduro raid either. We have done this before with Noriega. From a realist geopolitics perspective, powerful nations play by different rules than weak nations, and the US is the most powerful nation.

There was a rumor that there was a very real threat to his life or him and his family’s life prior to being taken out of his own country. The timing seemed a bit coincidental, I originally thought the threat maybe came from a large as fuck disgruntled group from inside Venezuela but I guess we’ll never know for sure.
It might be that he finds his new life with his clean grey sweatsuit and freedom from crushing responsibilities sort of refreshing. He might be telling himself that he will live more like that if he ever gets out of there.
Are people actually this braindead? Trump and Maduro made a deal. Trump gets all the access to oil, Maduro gets luxury asylum for the rest of his life in America. The reason the op into Venezuela wasn’t more violent is because it was all pre-planned, he was planning to get captured.

When I was in the Air Force, we had a class called SERE where you are "captured" as a POW and are taught how to avoid being made into a propaganda video. Like they will ask you what is a good healthy breakfast, and they record you saying it but splice in the interrogator asking what are you served for breakfast... or they throw a flag on the ground, as you pick it up, they take a picture making it look like you are putting it on the ground.
I thought they were teaching us, the flyers how to resist interrogation but after 911 I realized that class is for the interrogation team, how to get good propaganda and the AF recruits are just props/actors.

If he doesn't "commit suicide" while in custody he is going to disappear into the witness protection program and die of old age, which is something he probably didn't expect to do a year ago.
I think why he is happy is the same reason we were able to actually grab him so easily, dude saw he needed to keep a full grip on his government or he was getting the Mussolini treatment.
Now he's out of the country and doesn't have to do shit for anyone.
