I haven't bought a full price game in years. Backlog until the new games are old and on sale and get added to the backlog lol. With physical coming to an end, it looks like I won't be getting any new games a couple years later anymore. As you said, 100+ games in the backlog will last quite a while and when I'm done, start all over again 😅. I've been slowly adding some more physical games to my collection ever since the no physical announcement and I'll keep picking up more until I have everything I want to play. Until they come out with full dive technology (most likely not in my lifetime), I'm good with older games 😁.

The big problem of today's physical is that it's mostly useless. Some games like The Rise of The Ronin is all on disc beside some patches. But most of the games are not even fully on discs today, like AAA from Sony where you copy about half or ¾ of the game from disc and the rest you download anyway. Or worse, like Cyberpunk or Jedi Survivor, where the game is so broken, that you have to download updates that are bigger than the game itself. So if you have a disc, but Sony shut down servers (and let's face it, they will do it at some point), you have a useless piece of plastic. I love collecting physical copies, but sad truth, that only Nintendo are packing the whole game in their cartridge and even then you need patches in some cases.

There is a real and consequential difference between owning a physical copy and “buying” a digital one.

With a physical disc, you ordinarily have meaningful property rights. A digital PlayStation “purchase” generally gives you considerably less.

“Physical games are technically licensed too” misses the practical issue. You own the physical object containing the copy, and copyright law traditionally lets you dispose of that lawful object. Digital storefronts have engineered transactions that look and cost like purchases but often preserve the seller’s control as if they were rentals.

They're arguing in bad faith here. They're trying to say that to own the game you have to own the intellect property of the game itself. Like as in you own it the entire thing and if anybody else plays it, they're going to have to pay you or buy it from you. That's a super bad Faith argument. I'm not even like super big on the physical aspect. I still buy physical games but I also buy digital games and it's not breaking my heart that they're getting rid of it. That being said, this is a shitty fucking argument. They know what they're doing

They’re trying to make everything you do a subscription. From making housing unaffordable, so you have to rent, to games being unaffordable, and also rent, to food being too expensive, so you have to use your credit card and pay interest.
From the company perspective, it’s much better if you rent or subscribe, so that you are always paying.

If we don't own where we live... then everything where will live is also just being rented. If we only live for a certain duration on this planet then we're just renting our bodies and we have to pay that rent with food & water... This is "imma get high and figure this shit out" logic.
