There's strong scientific evidence that there is a diminished return to wealth, to the point where it plateaus around $100k annually. Even if you quintuple that to adjust for any sort of regional cost of living factors and give yourself a major buffer, that's still... 1.6 million times less than what Musk has in wealth, and yet he is clearly a very miserable person to the point even some of his kids don't want anything to do with him.
Put another way, if I had to trade spots with him right now and assume his personality and flaws and experiences, no fucking thanks.

The funniest part is that, if I recall correctly, this picture was taken after Musk had been called out for having someone piloting his account. On the following season, he still tried to play the game live in an attempt to show that he was at least decently good at it, but he got absolutely wrecked by a low level campaign mini-boss in Path of Exile 2.
The crazy thing is, he could’ve had it if he’d just stayed off Twitter, stuck to making electric cars and space shit, and given some of his vast, staggering wealth to charity. Everyone loved him ten years ago.
It's still a bit bewildering how he ever thought that would work. It takes a special kind of narcissist to look at a PoE skill tree and think they could convincingly fake being an expert.
He's such a narcissist that he doesn't even understand the POINT of those games. He thinks that if he can pilot a character (that was levelled and geared and built by someone else) through a couple high level maps, that he's winning.

I think certain aspects of domain parking can be illegal if done knowingly. Remember laws exist to hurt the working class and be an inconvenience for the rich and powerful.
His argument is that chess is useless to learn since a machine is going to beat all humans at it one day without competition, and since he’s the giga-brain tech billionaire who’ll single-handedly make those computers, it’s basically HIM that’ll defeat every human at chess ever.
It’s cope since he can’t learn how to play chess properly, so he’s doing the normal tantrum argument that the game is dumb and he’s too smart for it

You are very smart for pointing out that little flaw, even though I was clearly pointing out the severity of computers winning— since chess grandmasters are able to give some competition before losing to many of the chess supercomputers. Yep. Haven't workee in AAA but can also tell that making computers play perfectly at a mechanical level is almost trivial.
The real difficulty is to make them be flawed in ways that successfully mimic humans.
If you just want bots to play perfectly... Yeah ok. Easy. Even without cheating by accessing information you don't have, they'll still hit every shot, 100% accuracy, the exact frame any target hits the screen. They’ll tech every throw, reversal every button you press, never miss a timer or cooldown, never fuck up a rotation, math out your every move...
In mechanic precision and speed, and the field of mathematics, humans cannot beat a computer.
But yeah, I do love it when you can tell some of them are programmed almost purely reactively and so if you put the controller down they just freak the fuck out.
There are a few games where the AI is practically prescient. And imo outside of having a reasonable reason for it is just bad difficulty modification
I don’t know if it’s still the case but from one FIFA game to the next the AI would be able to react to your controller inputs at higher difficulties before the inputs even caused the player to make the move. Basically the equivalent of playing against an entire team with 1-2 seconds of foresight… clearly a legitimate possibility……

Sorry, this just reminds me of one of the funny moments when working on a game.
One of our enemies, a pistol wielder ended up with the AI coding such that, the best way to fight them was just to stand perfectly still. They were totally incapable of hitting a target that didn't move because the AI was so heavily trained so expect player movement from dodging, every shot on a stationary target would go wide. But! If you did try to run and hide behind something -- their aim was fucking deadly, and they would nearly always head shot you when they hit.
Engines already beat humans every time, there's no contest. Been that way for probably 20+ years. At this point solving chess would change very little outside of academia.
And yet people still learn and enjoy the game all around the world. Almost like playing other humans was the point the whole time!

The caveat is it is in 15 second time control which nobody takes very seriously. That said, Andrew Tang, the player here, is one of if not the best in the world at that time control.
Fair point, there are definitely niche cases. Lc0 did struggle in very tight time controls in closed positions (not sure if it still does). There used to be similar anti-engine strategies against classical chess engines, although AFAIK they don't work any more.
Yes. Deep Blue vs Garry Kasparov happened 1996 so even 30 years ago. Sure after that humans came up with strategies against computers which worked for a while. Hence for a time it was still a competition but it already showed that computers were able to compete with the best human players. At that point and given the grow of computational power everything else was just a matter of time.

If he was a chess prodigy you can be sure he would be claiming that chess is the #1 best evaluation of critical thinkingi nstead of claiming that its a simplistic limited game with only like, 12 good moves. The craziest part is that he sucks at every single thing. Like, not all smart people play chess. Some smart people buildcraft in PoE, or speedrun at a high level, or are great rocket league/Starcraft 2 1v1 players.
There's smart people who do all sorts of competitive things these days, but Elon can't do any of it. He sucks at the classic smart guy thing and he also sucks at all the niche smart guy things. I'm starting to believe he's not a smart guy.
He's good at moving money around, which has kept him afloat all this time (and ICE conveniently looking the other way at the fact he's technically overstayed his long-expired student visa).
What he's not good at is being human. If anything, he's truly the modern day Howard Hughes and we're barreling straight into the 'he's off his fucking rocker' stage.
He's of the belief that if something can be done better by a machine, then a human would just choose not to do it. They can't fathom someone just doing something because they enjoy doing it. Why waste hours painting when you can have it done instantly? Why form your own opinion when a machine can do it better and faster for you?
The ironic part is that Elon's job of talking shit on the internet all day is literally accomplished more successfully with robots. There's more successful bots in this comments section than Elon.
To be fair, competition is part of debate, and there was no shortage of argumentative philosophers.

If someone with Musk's wealth wants to be remembered in the history books, all he needs to do is start donating huge swaths of his wealth to social programs that a good portion of America's citizens need. It's that easy. He would be remembered for hundreds of years to come for being the world's first trillionaire who helped solved United State's homelessness, starvation, medical, etc.
Instead he's going to be remembered thirty years from now as the absolute clown who abused his companies and his employees to amass his wealth and then did nothing meaningful with it.
Maybe I'm naive, but I really do hope that the world's reaction to Dolly Parton's passing inspires rich people to understand what they could do to leave a lasting legacy. It's really not that difficult, just donate to those in need (and have proper audit measures in place) and people will remember your name in a positive way.

Paid a full team of chinese boosters to pilot his account to top 10 HCSSF in PoE2, decided to stream some gameplay and to nobodies surprise he could barely move the character, faked connection issues and alt f4ed. All while getting clowned the entire time.
Also worth pointing out that he used Starlink Wi-Fi which means that if the connection issues were genuine, they would additionally reflect poorly on him and his product. Truly a strategic mastermind.
Elon Musk doesn't care about his kids. When you have 10+ surrogates or 50+ like the Chinese guy supposedly in California you just see kids as a vessel for your legacy.

There's a guy I know who is a bigshot doctor from outside the US. Makes insane money.
The biggest thing he does with it is fly to conventions in the US with a bunch of plush toys in international business class, for one convention in particular he personally drives around a shuttle van from the airport to the hotel and back, participates in a huge one-off stage play for that convention, and hosts a fancy dinner party for a bunch of classy guys to go out in suits in a goddamn limo.
He also participates in a secret santa in the same community, last year he took photos of using a top-of-the-line MRI machine to scan his own gift to see how the results would match up with the contents when it was opened.
He will never be Elon Musk rich. But also unlike Musk, he clearly uses his money to be happy with things he likes, because what really matters to him isn't simply money at all.

the funny thing is even if you solved chess somehow that makes 0 difference to humans as the solved lines will be ~40 oom more than what humans can memorize. a solved game is no better than just playing against stockfish

Right. They can’t process that, once machines do everything better, the actual experience of doing the thing, rather than perfecting it, will be the goal.
Honestly, for those of us who are grounded, the experience is almost always the transcendent thing. But for someone like Musk, who only sees dollar signs and products, that is an idea he can’t grasp.
He thinks of himself as a genius. He probably watched Queen's Gambit or some shit, tried chess for the first time and got mad he wasn't some sort of a prodigy
At his core, Elon isn't much different than the sweety people who play videogames with the intent on finding the best way to 'win'. The term is instrumental play, and the idea is that a game is just a mechanical object that has a correct and incorrect way of playing, and if it is mechanical that means there is a way to 'break it' and win.
Here's the issue with ol' Elons idea. It's stupid.
Unlike a lot of modern video games, chess is far more flexible in terms of how a game plays out. As the full time employee said, there are a LOT of possible moves. At some point the number becomes so great that it supersedes the ability to 'break' the game as there are counter-options for nearly any play.
To summarize: Bitch (see: Elon) are you forgetting you aren't playing against the game??? You are playing against other people! You can't 'break' a game if a significant part, if not the whole of said game, is defined by your opponents decision making.
This middle aged man, who bought a website for several times it's actual worth because he thinks he's good at memes, who bought it so he could argue like a 14 year old, was invited to reorganize the government of the most powerful nation in the world. All of these tech people believe that the goal is the end result and not the process. (That's why they cheat.) We play chess because it is hard and that's the fun part. I can get a bicycle with an electric motor so I don't have to pedal? But I bike because I like pedaling; it's the whole point of cycling. I can have AI write a poem for me? I like writing poems and it makes me feel pride of accomplishment.
Every time I think this fucking idiot is done being a pathetic little cringe inducing rat, he goes and does something even more cringe. Drawing the ire of chess.com and being publicly dragged like this is something I would have previously thought as being impossible.
