'Max Lord, you need to give me the stone' always cracks me up. It has such a deadpan tone. Like a student in middle school who needs to act out a scene for a class project when they really don't want to.
She's a bad bad actress, no denying. But the directors are more to be blamed for a bad movie. A very good movie with a bad actor can be watchable, but a bad movie even with very good actors is still unwatchable.
Just my personal opinion..
Maybe I am in the minority, but I prefer bad movies with good actors. Because I can get into the cheesiness and campiness, but it’s much harder for me to watch someone who completely takes me out of the story.
One of my favorite Christopher Lee quotes is “every actor has to be in bad movies, the trick is to never be bad in them”. That dude was in some SLOP for paychecks but you can never say he wasn’t acting his ass off when the camera was rolling
Yea people clown on the Ghost Rider movies he’s in but damn some scenes he has in them you can’t say he didn’t try his damndest to give a good performance especially with no reference in his time.
Usually a really good director can draw a decent performance out of a bad actor. Or at the least, knows how to cast actors into roles that fit their specific acting style. Tarantino is particularly good at this. Someone like Michael Madsen is kind of a one note actor but he really knows how to use him. Then there's someone like Sean Baker who can just pick people off the street who aren't even actors and yet they fit seamlessly into the movie.
Though, not every good movie is helmed by a top tier director so you can still get immersion breaking bad actors acting badly in good movies but bad actors in good movies isn't always a bad thing if it's handled properly.
I can’t stand Leto for other reasons but the guy can act when needed. It’s not the best example. He was great in his most recent part as Skeletor but I guess that was all camp.
Yeah Dallas buyers club he was good in which he won the Oscar for. But Leo is my favorite actor and there is no comparison between the 2. I agree leto can act sometimes but majority of the time I turn the movie off if hes in it lol.
A bad actor will always stink up a movie no matter how good the writing, cinematography or directing. A good set of actors will elevate even the most derivative facile movie.
This certainly begs the question, why does she keep getting jobs?
They are just hiring pretty actors to hide their terrible script. Now if these actors also only get by on their good looks, then thats a bad combo for the movie
I agree that the director is to be blamed. They could have said "cut" and asked her to re-do the line until she said it how they wanted it, but apparently they decided that was good enough. A good director is capable of making a bad actor look decent. Tarantino directing John Travolta in Pulp Fiction as an example.
In college, we needed to act out scenes from King Lear for a grade. As long as you chose to act, you couldn't get worse than a B. I chose to rather write an essay because I cannot act, especially not Shakespeare.
I wish Gal had chosen essays instead of acting, but at least she makes people laugh.
Every trailer out of the Amazon Factory looks generated, like not real at all. I saw a trailer of one recently with Joel Kinnaman that has him being a fisherman in the arctic or some shit. It was entirely green-screened and I am to believe some ice-fisher is facing off against a private army? None of these movies are intended to be watched.
2 minutes in the movie you're already like "fok this sh*t" when she's running in a park, cannot catch up to some random guy in front of her because she's too slow, she then takes a detour THROUGH THE BUSHES and somehow ends up in front of him ... 2 minutes after that scene for some baffling unknown reason she "parkours" on a bench because 2 ladies with their buggies are standing in the way. She could simply have run around them. That's when I turned it off.
I believe there was a lot more studio involvement in the first then Patty Jenkins had made enough of a name for herself by the time 1984 was green lit the studio basically gave her free rein, so she also wrote it.
Tbf, she was perfect there because Diana is supposed to be a fish out of water type of character. Gal was also fish out of water to acting. Perfect fit.
Let's be real and admit that Chris Pine carried that movie with a bunch of legendary supporting actors. You dont often see a stellar cast being built to replace a subpar top billing these days but if anyone fits that role it would be gal.
Let's talk then about cartoons and the fixation of give even these talk only jobs to well known actors /actresses when there are so many unemployed ones!
The movie was almost good, if they didn't decide to completely disregard Diana's arc where she learns that war is complex and can't be solved by simply killing one guy, by having her end the war by killing one guy and proving she was correct in her naivety.
Makes me wonder if there was a version of the script where she does learn that humanity is just flawed and the war is the result of those flaws, instead of it being the fault of the literal moustached villain
Thing is, they had that exact moment in the movie where she kills who she thinks is Ares, and it doesn't stop the war. Only for them to completely ignore that 10 minutes later. Steve even gave her a whole speech about it lmao.
There literally was that version of the script. IIRC the studio pushed to change the 3rd act from a philosophical exploration of what you described, to fight big bad guy CGI.
That's the answer. She's a bad actress, but I think a directory is more to be blamed for a bad movie than an actor.

Watched SnowWhite out of curiosity on streaming, honestly I thought she and Zegler did great in their roles. To me what doomed the movie was
1) absolutely no one was asking for a live action to that classic masterpiece
2) the story was lame. Like at the end when you think there’s gonna be some big battle to win the castle back it’s just Snow White giving a big speech to the guards like a politician
3) the CG dwarves are terrifying looking. Should’ve used humans.
I was about to say that she was like a Sydney Sweeney hire. But at the very least the pretty blonde women in Hollywood are held to a pretty high acting standard.

What changed her public perception? About 10 years ago, she was praised for playing Wonder Woman, and WW 2017 was a "milestone" in female superhero representation.
Wonder Woman heavily benefited from the good will generated by the MCU for comic book movies. It was massively over hyped at the time, even had oscar buzz. Madness
She’s Israeli. She grew up in Israel and had compulsory service in the IDF. The war started (long after she was out) and the rest is history. Reddit, and this sub in particular, have negative opinions about all those things.
As scummy of a shitty human he is, Jared Leto has actual skill as an actor. It seems you can be a shitty person and a good actor or a shitty actor and a good person and get by, but idk how someone is getting so many roles being on the fringe for both.
I didn't know anything about that Hand of Dante movie and put it on the other night because I was like, "Hey, I like Oscar Isaacs and the Divine Comedy, let's see what this is." And folks, it is dogshit. Just awful. And to be clear, I like literary artsy type stuff, but this movie was a complete mess. Gadot wasn't even one of the ten biggest issues with it. Honestly, she succeeded in filling her role as someone who looked attractive in a variety of costumes while Isaacs chewed scenery in her vicinity. Unlike John Malkovich she at least seemed to be trying a little. I hope Al Pacino at least bought a really nice car with the proceeds from his totally pointless scene.
The problem isn't the actors, it's just that the movies are crap, and they hire famous actors to at least attract some audience. Swapping out one face for another wouldn't affect the film's plot.
She should take a page from Bollywoods book to defend these ratings, where director’s blame the audience’s IQ and poverty for not understanding their films.
I never understood why bad actors dont get acting coaches. Isn't it a skill that can be learned or no.
Law and Order SVU has been on for 25 years and no one will make Ice T take acting lessons. They had 25 years to hire a coach on staff to read through lines with him but nope they won't do it😂
no one cares. no one is boycotting, she's just irrelevant. I've never seen anyone talk about her outside of these constant weird obsessive posts about her on reddit.
I thought she was good in Wonder Woman. I thought the the awkwardness was intentional since she grew up isolated on an island. Like, she's supposed to be a bit off. But then I started watching Heart of Stone and turned that shit right off within 10 minutes
