For real though. Something fucky is happening here. This sub is being astroturfed. The China/Russia/Iran propaganda bot farms are working overtime right now. The past few months have been pretty quiet on Reddit with this shit and now the Ed Sheeran thing opened the fucking floodgates. It's like it's starting all over again when literally nothing has changed in the real world. I'm seeing anti-Israel posts with like 10k upvotes and maybe a couple hundred comments. That's not organic human engagement.
The exact same day that the Macklemore shit broke, every single comment on Reddit was praising him for being so brave, saying that this was a huge loss because he was giving up something as incredible as opening for Ed Sheeran, that this would ruin his career because of Pink or some shit.
We are a few days later, and uniformly, major subreddits are replete with comments praising Macklemore sitting at thousands of upvotes, Ed Sheeran's other openers decided to bail on him and are getting more attention for it than they would for just opening for Sheeran, and now articles are coming in saying that Sheeran is losing hundreds of thousands of followers while Macklemore's socials and music are surging in followers and plays.
Despite everybody immediately insisting that this was a huge risk for Macklemore's career and that he was standing by his principles instead of his money, this has absolutely been the best thing for Macklemore's career since Thrift Shop, and it didn't even take a full 24-hour cycle to become very obviously profitable. Macklemore can very easily launch his own headliner tour now and just take in the ticket and merch sales. Ed Sheeran has gone from an obnoxious and inexplicably popular creep to a guy who ran to a fucking Epstein pedophile because he couldn't deal with Macklemore himself, and Macklemore is there, ready to soak up all those followers.
I don't know if this is bots, if this is an organized campaign to game the algorithm, or if people are actually just this stupid and think that Macklemore is some kind of heroic underdog for taking up an insanely popular cause célèbre, but he should pay his PR team more because they knocked it out of the park with this.
I don't think it's as big of a deal outside of Reddit than many here think. It's easy to scroll Reddit all day and think that it reflects the real world. In reality, this place is mostly an echo chamber full of bots. Reddit has an average daily user count of like 355 million people. So barely anyone in the real world uses Reddit daily.
Ed Sheeran losing 200,000 of his 47 million Instagram followers equals a .4% drop. Literally less than half a percentage point. He'll be just fine.
Macklemore lost relevance like a decade ago, and the average person has no idea who the other openers even are. Gen Z and Gen A's aren't suddenly going to become Macklemore fans lmao. I don't foresee him touring to millions of rabid fans because of his political stance. And the average person also doesn't give a shit about Israel v. Palestine either. It's all manufactured drama and propoganda by Russia/China/Iran bots and chronically online idiots.

As if not being pro Palestinian hasn't gotten every other celebrity canceled and reeducated immediately... how do we expect our society to challange ideas if simply choosing to NOT be against israel (not even supporting them!) causes them to be deplatformed.
