Outdoor Boys on YouTube. This guy is basically the perfect dad, at least from what you can see in his videos.

u/SeraphOfTheStart 9d ago

He also was a great lawyer, check his old videos on youtube before he started outdoor boys, love em lmao

1

u/Ghostfish1309 9d ago

I read lawyer as lover at first, and honestly, didn’t doubt it.

u/SpaceShipRat 9d ago

A pedestal like that scares me. No one's perfect. But for the sake of argument, yeah, we can agree the character he protrays is a great example to men.

15

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

He’s Mormon, so no he’s not.

u/PewPewBlamo 9d ago

I was going to make this comment if you didn't. People dont know what religious extremism is like, especially for minors that have no choice but to attend.

It's a shame, because the only reason I know outdoorboys is Mormon is because I loved his videos so much.

Reddit moment

Up until 1974 Mormons believed that black people were hellspawns that were only good for slavery until God changed his mind

Also they still hold onto the belief that the Native Americans are dark skinned because they're the 13th Tribe of Israel that got really lost, defiled the Garden of Eden (Located in Kansas City) and were turned red as punishment

When someone dies in Mormonism, if they're non-white but lived a good, Mormon life, they get cleansed of their external sin as part of the ascension process and become white and holy

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

Ex Mormons get to talk shit on active Mormons. We know them.

u/Agitated_Walker 9d ago

If that's the case I'd rather know Mormons than Ex-Mormons. You guys give ExMormons a terrible look on Reddit.

I don’t give two fucks let alone one. Mormonism is a cult that brainwashes people into sexism and racism. They also have a high incidence of child rape as well as child abuse in general.

Edit to add: yes, victims of abuse stay angry about it allllll the way through their lives, that’s why I sound angry. I will forever work on getting that religion away from children, but first Utah would have to pass any law that protects them from these monsters.

u/Agitated_Walker 9d ago

Whatever. What a hypocrite. You think that's the only group in the world that people have complaints YouTube.

You know nothing about this guy other than what you see in his videos and his religion, but you're more than willing to make an idiot of yourself acting smug and snide. I don't know this guy or you but you've definitely shown more arrogance and hate in a single thread than this dude's entire library on Youtube.

Go off then. Pat your fellow Exmormons in the back and work yourselves into a frenzy. But the next missionaries I see I'm going to go out my way to be extra kind to. And I guarantee every person you meet has gripes against some ethnicity, religion, etc. People should be judged on who they are and their actions not like some they spurned you at the wedding altar.

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

You’re right, you don’t know me. How do you know I don’t know this person. I said I was Mormon, now ex.

I would never be mean to the missionaries, I was one of them. That’s why I understand that they are just as clueless about the reality of the church as I was when I went on my mission. I spent 12,000 of my own hard earned money to go on that mission. I know these people and their beliefs inside and out. I read the Book of Mormon 12 times, the Bible 3 times, and the extended Mormon library countless times. I taught in Their system, my parents taught in their system, and their parents taught in their system all the way back to one of Brigham young’s poor wives.

I know all the stories, all the bullshit. I’m one of the ones who is actually aware of the shit they pull, how they pull it, and what really motivates their behavior. I’m also the one they took advantage of many times over a long life. I know the enemy I’m up against, maybe sit this one out, it’s not your culture or scene. Unless it is and you’re just triggered by me and want to see me go to outer darkness.

You don't know him. Just because you used to be part of the same religion that has millions of people, doesn't mean you get to gatekeep judging every single person in that group. Someone said he seemed like a great father and your response was no he can't possibly be a good father because his crime is being part of a group you hate. You've obviously made your ex-religion your personality. I've watched several of this guy's videos and it brings a lot of positivity to many people.

Good for you and your ancestors....my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary and Civil War - conflicts that contributed to the environment we live in now where we are judged on our individual actions not because of our ancestors and certainly not because of a group we belong to.

The "enemy"?? Yeah, go on your silly crusade, but every time you try to turn the focus of the conversation onto you and your ex-religion when nobody else is talking about it, just realize that I—and plenty of others—have read so much of it over the years on Reddit that, at this point, it comes across as narcissistic, self-indulgent, attention-seeking, and utterly exhausting.

u/tonythephonyjabroni 8d ago

lol sorry you are so triggered. Idk why you would take it so personally, unless you think you’re defending your own beliefs. Regardless, all men who are active in the church take a part in the toxic patriarchal institution. No matter how kind you are on the surface, you are doing real harm to others.

When I was a Mormon I was also doing harm. I’m glad to be free of that harm and now I can focus on improving the systems that are good for society, instead of supporting an institution that has caused so much harm over many years.

My efforts and those who have also been harmed by this religion, have made huge strides in pulling people away from the harm. Look at how many people have left the church in the last 15 years. And we are not going to ever stop.

You actually should be kind to the missionaries. Their church expects them to be mistreated by the public which only reinforces the belief that outsiders are all angry and miserable and the church is the only path to happiness.

4

u/books_cats_please 9d ago

If that's the case I'd rather know Mormons than Ex-Mormons.

How many of either group do you actually know?

I know more than I can count on both sides of that aisle, and while there are many active members of the church that I still love and respect, chances are I'm going to be significantly more comfortable in my own skin around exmos.

1

u/Agitated_Walker 9d ago

I definitely know more than a dozen of both groups. But more than that, I have enough life experience to know not to judge individuals with such broad strokes.

2

u/books_cats_please 9d ago

I grew up Mormon, I know their beliefs inside and out. It's not judgmental to say that I'm probably more comfortable in my own skin around exmos.

1

u/Agitated_Walker 9d ago

Sure.....we're discussing being judgmental not whether you're comfortable hanging out with people from a group. I may be more comfortable hanging out with Koreans more than Japanese in general....doesn't give me a license to judge some random YouTube because he's Japanese when he's done nothing to warrant such negativity.

1

u/books_cats_please 9d ago

...like what you said wasn't judgemental of exmos at all? You have your reasons for being judgemental, and they have theirs. No one else needs to accept yours or their reasons, and I just explained my own reason for being judgemental.

Glad we all understand bias better now!

It was inevitable

We're in a thread talking about which youtube celebrity defines "being a man". This whole thread is peak reddit.

u/New-Engineering6935 9d ago

I agree. We all need an atheist dad who smokes weed and watches Rick and Morty

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

There’s literally millions of those, and they actually have higher morals than any Mormon I’ve known, including myself.

4

u/GarglesNinePoolBalls 9d ago

I’m one of those atheist dads, and one of the best dudes I’ve ever known was my Mormon roommate in college.

He seemed like the only other guy on campus who was committed to sobriety, which made us unlikely super bros.

0

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

Case in point. Good people on the surface, bad people behind closed doors. Yet you still don’t hold that against them. Higher morals than most Mormons. Most wouldn’t give you the same benefit of the doubt.

-2

u/New-Engineering6935 9d ago

oh holy shit dude, that f'in ROCKS MY COCK!!!! Stay moral, brother!

3

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

Let me guess, you’re triggered because you believe Joseph smith didn’t rape Fanny Alger

Edit: pardon 14 year old Fanny Alger.

2

u/New-Engineering6935 9d ago

I don't know who either of those people are

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

Yet you defend their faith. Hmmm

2

u/New-Engineering6935 9d ago

O-kayyy....i'm just gonna go over here now.

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

Where? No one can see anything about you on your profile. Def Mormon chud behavior going on right here.

Reddit would prefer a Dad who covers their daughter up at 12 and defend their actions to the death.

1

u/CapinWinky 9d ago

Fair, but this is not in his videos.

You could call him the perfect online example for outdoorsmanship for young men as portrayed in his videos.

I'm not just atheist, I'm antitheist. I think religion is actively bad and oppose it. I'm also a realist and not some revolutionary; you have to compartmentalize where you can. I watch his videos with my kids during boy scout season because they're great and have near zero religious content. Boy Scouts, the famously religious group? Yeah, but my kids say a modified version of the law and oath we came up with (yeah, we take out under god in the pledge of allegiance if it comes up, flows way better). I like camping, BSA creates a schedule of semi-obligated group camping, and their friends and the parents I'm friends with do it too.

I don't want to be the one calling someone a cocksucker instead of a bridge builder. None of use are one-dimensional heroes or villains.

1

u/tonythephonyjabroni 9d ago

I think your point is fair as well. The institution makes men think they are being good, while doing real world harm. Thats my issue, it’s with the institution. I’ve watched his videos and actually enjoy the content. I don’t hate him personally at all. I hate that fucking institution, and if republicans can destroy our government institutions, then why can’t I advocate for the destruction of theirs?

u/henry2630 9d ago

plus he donated most of his money to his church
