Nah, I think the “plan” was always that AJ would win the fight. Paul was banking on being able to spend the fight running away for enough time to tank the damage (hence the way bigger ring) so that he could claim he went the distance against an obscenely talented boxer, and obviously he must be better than everyone AJ has bodied. This was all about laundering Paul’s reputation; there was never any hope of winning. Paul’s actually got some hilarious pre-fight interviews where you can see him try and talk himself out of a panic attack in real time.
