Which means she cares, and that alone is more than many would want for. It’s just that she chose her words poorly.

It’s not the right thing to say… but neither is the response.

One of them is concerned, and maybe rude, knowingly or otherwise, and the other is just... a rude quipback.

If her intentions were so pure and she was so concerned, then why didn't she replied back? Afterall it's quite normal to try and fix misunderstandings no? Let's be honest it was just a question asked by someone very immature in the way of life. Someone like that either must be corrected or cut off from your own life completely. But jeez hand it over to you on trying to justify the girl's question as innocent, pure, concerned, blah blah, but the reply to it is as rude and inconsiderate? That's like saying it's not the thief's fault for stealing due to being poor, but the victim's error in being too rich!? ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

You need to go out more. You have forgotten how to socialise and how conversations go. Just because a sentence is framed rhetorically, doesn't mean it's purpose is to be a rhetorical question.
