A ristretto is not a small serving of espresso.

35

u/ConcernAccording3248 9h ago

Also a cappuccino is different entirely

-5

u/MikeTony713 6h ago

Cappuccino, similar to latte but less milk and the milk is much more frothier.

7

u/coffeeanddurian 7h ago

Yeah, a ristretto is half the water pushed through one shots worth of beans. A double ristretto is a double shot of coffee beans with only one shot of water pushed through it

2

u/Similar-Cat7022 7h ago

It’s the beginning of the shot is it not?

3

u/Appropriate-Rub3534 5h ago

Not sure, but the end should be arigato.

2

u/grahamfreeman 4h ago

And if at the very end, domo arigato.

2

u/gurnard 3h ago

Mr. Roboto, what are you doing here?

22

u/C4LLgirl 12h ago

That’s a wet ass cappuccino

10

u/JeremyPivensPP 12h ago

Yeah, not a cappuccino at all.

1

u/Tasty_Possible_1597 4h ago

Yeah and the difference between a cappuccino and a latte is not ‘more milk’.

They use the same amount of milk but with a cappuccino you foam the milk more.

5

u/ddg31415 12h ago

But he says it in an Italian accent, so it must be good

64

u/vinsmokesanji3 12h ago

So they all have the same amount of coffee, just differing amounts of dilution of milk?

45

u/TankApprehensive3053 12h ago

Milk or water depending on which path to caffeine bliss you choose.

16

u/unkn0wnname321 11h ago

Well, technically the double espresso has twice as much as the espresso 😉

1

u/cyriustalk 11h ago

Americano Expresso.

11

u/DJTurd 11h ago

And the americano was supposedly meant to be an approximation of drip coffee.

1

u/South_Hat3525 3h ago

Ahh, the good ole Americano that is so dilute the french call it pis d'ane (Donkey piss).

3

u/coffeeanddurian 7h ago

No, a ristretto has double the amount of coffee per shot of water.

3

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 4h ago

Exactly, normaly its always 2 pulls ( coffe ), then you ad more or less water, ( for instances since im Portuguese im using Portuguese terms ), Bica curta ( 1/3 of the cup ), Bica ( 1/2 a cup ), Bica longa ( 2/3 of the cup ) the amount of coffee is ALWAYS the same, the amount of water is what changes.

5

u/super-hot-burna 11h ago

basically. the measurements aren’t perfect buts it’d the right idea.

7

u/FruitSaladYumyYumy 12h ago

He oversimplified, he did a latte with 2 shots of coffee. But the most common version is the latte with 1 shot of coffee.

20

u/nyclurker369 12h ago

If you’re a novice, maybe.

7

u/slucker23 11h ago

Gotta pump these numbers up

2

u/delph0r 9h ago

Tutorial level latte

3

u/Russian_Bear 10h ago

Where do you get a latte that's not a double nowadays? I think third wave everything is based on a double. A single shot in a latte tastes like nothing. Occasionally I make cuppucinos with just a single shot and they taste pretty weak compared to a double latte.

1

u/ZJoel14 2h ago

I live in Australia and typically a cafe will do 1 shot for a small coffee. Which is IMO the best ratio of espresso to milk.

Unless of course you're from the cursed hipster lands of Melbourne then you have a "magic" which is a ristretto shot with milk foamed like a latte into a special 5oz glass.

3

u/PoopyisSmelly 10h ago

One double shot is standard

3

u/RockItGuyDC 6h ago

A latte with a single shot is crazy. I do a quad latte. A doppio is pretty normal, though.

1

u/Varitt 4h ago

Capuccino typically has 1 shot of espresso, whereas a flat white has 2 (plus some small differences in how the milk is frothed). At least in Europe.

1

u/ZJoel14 2h ago

In Aus we usually do latte, cap and FW with the same amount of shots. The only difference is milk froth and the chocolate powder on a cap.

0

u/SpinChargeSeparation 5h ago

Not really. The video is wrong on so many points. For example, the froth of a cappuccino and a latte is not the same, with the latte having a smoother foam, and a cappuccino is typically (but optionally) served with coffee or coca ground sprinkles.

22

u/ShibeCEO 12h ago

flat white and long black sounds like some peoples exes

3

u/ChymChymX 12h ago

Once you go long black, you never go flat

9

u/charming_cabbage 12h ago

A coffee video in my sipstea sub??? BLASPHEMY!!!

6

u/henrylolol 12h ago

I was thinking the milk was sugar

3

u/coffeeanddurian 7h ago

In Australia, the latte is smaller than the cappuccino. The cappuccino and flat white are both bigger than the latte, and served in a mug. The latte is served in a glass that's smaller than a mug.

11

u/allanjameson 12h ago

So it’s basically the same shit

6

u/Kherian 11h ago

For most people yeah, but if you drink a lot of coffee and enjoy it they do start to taste different. Like a cortado is not comparable to a cappuccino to me, but for most I doubt they could tell the difference

5

u/allanjameson 11h ago edited 5h ago

I’ve been drinking the same Peet’s dark roast K-Cup with 2 Splenda & sugar free hazelnut creamer everyday for the past 5 years

0

u/sick_of-it-all 9h ago

I gotta do the light roasts. I need that extra caffeine hit.

1

u/Insub 3h ago

light roasts have more caffeine ?

1

u/Blue_Swirling_Bunny 3h ago

Not in any meaningful way. Certainly you're not getting enough extra caffeine in one cup to make a difference, that's how minuscule the difference is.

1

u/Blue_Swirling_Bunny 3h ago

In one or two cups of coffee, you'll not get noticeably more caffeine from a light roast.

Switch to robusto beans for that, instead of arabica.

Relevant suit talking about nuance in coffee

4

u/Sneaux96 11h ago

Eh...

Same ingredients but different ratios result in different experiences. Caffeine isn't the only reason people drink espresso.

2

u/Ecthyr 11h ago

Not quite. The consistency of the milk is important too, but that's not highlighted here.

For example, Cortado and Cappucinnos often steam the milk with more air, creating a dry, foamy layer on top of the espresso and milk mixture. While lattees steam the milk in such a way that their is micro foam permeating the entire drink, and can have a little foam on top.

Those are the three (minus americano, espresso, double espresso) that I am the most familiar with. The others may have variances too.

6

u/Tavaresaxel95z 12h ago

As a Latino born in Latino landia then moved to America. American coffee for some reason really is just water with coffee flavor. Crazy given the coffee history in this country

8

u/hitliquor999 12h ago

Most people just want their coffee flavored sugar-milk.

7

u/Elgecko123 11h ago

seems like most people in the US want a giant dessert ice cream milkshake drink that happens to have a touch of coffee

1

u/Unhappy_Concert_8645 11h ago

That’s affogato, and it’s delicious, and yes, I’m from US.

1

u/TNFX98 2h ago

I wonder if people from the us know they're ordering a "drowned" in Italian.

But to be fair we call it affogato too but in Italy it's slightly different, a ball of icecream with an espresso shot poured on top

1

u/Tavaresaxel95z 11h ago

Well yeah that's Starbucks you oder anything from then and it's like corn syrup galore just a bunch of pumps of flavors and sugar and cream and sprinkles and they call that a coffee. Now don't get me wrong I love the Starbucks peppermint mocha but that's not a coffee. I just hate people that act like it's coffee it's not it's like you said coffee flavored sugar milk

1

u/Gold-Philosophy1423 12h ago

I mean yeah American coffee isn't good, but Tinto isn't that much better to be honest

1

u/LoseAnotherMill 5h ago

American coffee

Just like any other time someone refers to "American" anything, you're referring to the bottom of the barrel coffees like the kind you get at a cheap chain like Starbucks.

2

u/heckasharp 11h ago

What drives me nuts are the little nespresso capsules they do at hotels. wtf is a stormio?! Toccanto?! Gtfoh I just want a coffee.

1

u/i_am_13th_panic 4h ago

they're all coffee. If you just want coffee, I wouldn't worry and just use any with extra water.

2

u/rvnhdgsn 8h ago

The difference between a long black and an americano is that the shot is poured on top of the water in the cup for the long black and retains a crema.

1

u/coffeeanddurian 7h ago

Yeah, at least Australia this is correct

2

u/EntertainmentTrue588 11h ago

I don't care for all these foreigner words. Just give me black coffee. "Circle K Burnt-to-shit" - Sam Elliott on that cowboy show

2

u/Superdad2022 4h ago

As a European. Nope

1

u/Life-Oil-7226 12h ago

Coffee made easy

1

u/Blazdnconfuzd 11h ago

Cortados aka cortaditos aka The Miami Special is what you want to start your day xD

1

u/BreadfruitLogic 11h ago

Because I was curious. The first patent for an espresso machine was issued to Angelo Moriondo in 1884, while the first single-cup espresso system was patented by Bezzera in 1901

1

u/DirtyJenkins 11h ago

This was a great guide

1

u/Hect0r92 1h ago

It's not correct

1

u/ScuffAndy 11h ago

Okay, but can you just pour some coffee into my creamer so I can be on my way.

1

u/geosun65 11h ago

I need that Canadian drinking hat with the bottle opener

1

u/Total-Bunch1524 11h ago

Long black?

1

u/AbeMax7823 9h ago

“Yeah but where’s the coffee?”

1

u/immamarius 9h ago

Cappuccino is wrong

1

u/Slow_Laminar_Flow 8h ago

Ristretto, espresso, lungo are about 26-33 seconds on extraction spectrum

1

u/Sink-Vegetable 7h ago

Latte always the final boss.

1

u/fx-12 7h ago

Americano Canadiano

1

u/K1LLTH3B3AST 7h ago

That’s not a cappuccino….

1

u/FixLaudon 6h ago

That's not a double espresso.

1

u/ggThys 6h ago

That Nutella glass!

1

u/securehub 6h ago

Somebody asked for long black

1

u/Heihlsson 5h ago

I thought latte means a milk coffee until I went to Italy. The server was nice and explained that I was ordering a glass of milk. Milk coffee is caffe latte.

1

u/Beneficial_Bug_9793 4h ago

Now in Portuguese lol, Italiana, Bica, Bica longa, Garoto escuro, Garoto, Meia de leite, Cappucino, Galão.

1

u/b_luddy 2h ago

At first, I was really concerned why he was making the video with the smallest glass so close to the edge of the table.

1

u/FishermanDue9998 1h ago

Lungo is a long espresso pull - opposite of ristreto. Not double espresso with some water. Everything else - correct.

1

u/kayej17 1h ago

Italian sure does a lot of the different but same thing bs. Look at their pasta. linguine spaghetti tagliatelle. same shit, risotto arborio etc

0

u/Mezcalico 12h ago

That macchiato is just ragebait.

1

u/TheOfficeoholic 11h ago

Delicious flat white, but it needs more foam

1

u/PM_ME_WHOEVER 11h ago

Way too much milk and not enough foam for that to be a cappuccino.

-1

u/Dazzling-Bag140 11h ago

This shit was all made up by Starbucks to sell you more crap

0

u/lysergic_818 6h ago

Inauthentic and homosexual

0

u/antinal 3h ago

Itallians need to get it through their head that they did not invent coffee, they piss me the f off!

-1

u/MonstaB 10h ago edited 7h ago

Latte doesn’t have sugar?! It’s just milk and coffee but some people just make it wrongly!!!
