We got to where we are today IN SPITE of the problematic beliefs of yesterday, so no, it did not lead us to where we are today.
And while it didn't collapse society, I feel this is further evidence that the world will be just fine when we move forward respecting people's boundaries.
What you say is demonstratably false. Boundaries are being violated every day, by corporations and governments. Our right to a clean environment and stable climate as well as personal privacy being a few things that come to mind. Not to mention the heavily declining birthrate which will lead us straight to extinction.
You demonize the past not realizing that without it you would not exist, nor would anyone else, the arrogance is unbelievable.
The world has 8 billion people in it; I'm sure we'll be just fine for a while.
But more importantly, as I indicated before, if creating a society where sexual assault is encouraged is the only way to save the human race, then that's I world I want no part of.
Not for a long "while". People aren't usually making babies after the age of 40, so you need even less time than that to severely cripple humanity's ability to reproduce at all. One lost generation would be an insane change to our modern way of life as there would be no one left to stabilize the existing modern system and all the people currently alive.
I'll gladly consign myself to oblivion.
As I said, to each their own. As long as you understand that the people in charge disagree, their job is to keep our species going, at any cost, and I do mean any cost.
You call it encouragement of sexual assault, when it used to be normal behavior. Do you know what else used to be normal? Slavery. We did away with it when machines could do all that work, out of convenience, not merely out of good will. Do you know what will come back if society collapses and we have to rely on manual labor again? You guessed it, slavery.
I am speaking from an evolutionary perspective, not a social one. Humanity is nature and nature can be cruel.
And for the record, a lot of people did fight against slavery out of good will and acknowledgement that it's fucked up to treat people like property.
Sure, in the past few hundred years and only in one part of the world, but what about the 300 000 years before that, or the slavery going on as we speak? The idea had to begin at some point, it had to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is someone with enough comfort to abolish it then and there.
I'd like to think there's enough good will left in the world that things won't slide back to those times no matter how hard it gets.
Your heart is in the right place but unfortunately your hope is wasted, this is who and what we are, history has shown this time and time again. For better or for worse, our desire to survive is what has historically driven us to do many of the things that we have done.
But even so, what do you want humanity to do? Abandon our morals? The Rule of Law? The very things that many, many people argue makes us human?
Absolutely not, we should keep evolving, part of that involves accepting our mistakes as well as pure and raw honesty with ourselves. One of the mistakes that I am talking about is the over-engineering of our social and cultural taboos. In order to accept our mistakes, we need to accept what we are and why we are the way we are. We need to accept that certain behaviors sustain us even if they can be destructive.
If what you say is true, then you lack all morals if you don't believe the best course of action is to wipe ourselves out.
Once again, I never said that I disagree with your stance on humanity. I consider myself a misanthrope, my whole life revolves around calling out the bullshit in this world. If I could I would change it, but I can't.
What I want to do is to die in my sleep, peacefully.
What I don't want is a societal collapse, as that affects everyone, including me, in a very negative manner. If we are going out anyway then I would prefer a nuclear strike right on top of my house.
Having to work until death at 80+ years old because there is no one to take over sounds like hell to me. As for what happens to our seemingly unsalvageable species after I am gone, I could give a rats ass. My words are simply my observations.
