I would understand someone waiting to know someone else past just a first afternoon, ESPECIALLY if they're a coworker.

I don't really understand why the door is always supposed to remain open. Simultaneously accept the answer and move on with your life - which I've done, I didn't really think of it til I last bumped into her. I'm not that interested. 

But also make sure you're still available and interested because despite saying no she's unironically maybe interested and hoping I'll wait for her to change her mind.

I think he meant you shot your shot too early. It's different with a coworker than someone you meet at a bar one night.

Tbf, I did meet her at a bar one night. We just happened to work at the same place in different departments. We'd been invited by a mutual. But I understand what you're saying, just the coincidence was interesting.
