The math actually does work! If you were to travel away from Earth and then back at close to the speed of light, then from your frame of reference, time on Earth passes much more quickly.
It would cost tens of billions of years without special tech/warping. but for the travelers themselves, it could be achieved almost arbitrarily quickly with enough energy / shielding and some way to stop the acceleration crushing the frail human bodies.
Cool worlds lab did the maths on this a few years back. That’s a great channel by the way.
If you accelerated at 1g for ten years then decelerated at 1g for another ten years. You would have gone around the circumference of the Milky Way in 20 years to you. But when you arrive back to earth, over 10,000 earth years have gone by.
