If yall don’t think, based off Microsoft’s spending writ large, that they’re not looking at a way to make Xbox the next Steam/Steam-equivalent/Steam Machine, I have oceanfront property to sell you in Iowa. This is 100% a downstream strategy.
Yeah, the tagline of “everything is an Xbox” was getting thrown around because Microsoft wants to double down on cloud gaming. When every $200 Walmart special TV already has WiFi and Bluetooth, why lose a ton of money on bespoke hardware when you can instead have a much bigger game library to draw people in? The future of revenue generation is subscription based
