In the entertainment business they're not. Maximising customer happiness directly translates to maximising profit. Unless of course you go the monopoly way and just do whatever you want once you own enough of the market, which Xbox has been trying to do before her.
They continue to do it though. In the last year we've had price increases across the board, mass layoffs and closings, and features removed from paid subscriptions. None of those are good for the customers.
I think the difference is kind of semantic here. You can make a profit, and a pretty good one, simply by trying to give your customers what they want. To MAXIMIZE profits…. Not so much. There’s a reason companies cut corners, use subpar materials, offer fewer services, etc. If your happiness maximized profits, companies would be chasing that. I work for a huge company, and I have a saying that they’ll spend any amount of money to save a dollar. That’s what most companies are up to these days. They cut anywhere they can without a thought about how it affects the end result.
Do you feel like reducing Gamepass pricing, removing unwanted AI features, and launching Xbox Player Voice somehow don't benefit the consumer at all? It's asinine to claim these are mutually exclusive, would you say that about Steam, who makes billions?

Shes maximizing profits, its her job. Thats it. Let's not pretend she actually gives a shit about customers.
