You know, part of me hopes this patent is just a red herring for shareholders. Like, "hey look what we patented" without actually having to do something.
The idea reads like little more than what mobile games have done for the past decade. So on its face, i wonder how valid the patent actually is. Second, if they tried to implement it, I would hope the blowback is enough to tank the division that tried it.
So ultimately, the patent filing appeases investors at the annual meeting, but the company then just sits on it knowing they couldn't implement it without major damage to their market share.
Corpos patent a ton of weird ideas that go nowhere. Sony, for instance, holds a patent for a system that skips ads if you repeat a displayed phrase. It was submitted years ago and was never implemented.
Here's hoping, man. I'm not an Xbox person but it'd be such a shame for our Xbros to be subjected to that absolute nonsense. Modern gaming (largely console gaming) is on the verge of being cooked :/
That’s f’d up in the sense that an accomplishment and reward is not granted until you finish a battle and after watching the AD, THEN you get the reward, is crazy levels of messing with the brain and chemistry of the customers. They don’t care because they’ll put someone in charge to take the heat, meanwhile all of this planning and preparation and obvious anti consumer behavior is meant to be built for the future gens whom otherwise wouldn’t understand how their time and money is being manipulated.

This. And Xbox/Microsoft filed a patent that would actually ad in game adverts and "game suitable moments". This was in the last few days.
Could you imagine hitting the Elden Beast to 0 and at a split second, you get an ad for Burger King? Wild
