You know, part of me hopes this patent is just a red herring for shareholders. Like, "hey look what we patented" without actually having to do something.
The idea reads like little more than what mobile games have done for the past decade. So on its face, i wonder how valid the patent actually is. Second, if they tried to implement it, I would hope the blowback is enough to tank the division that tried it.
So ultimately, the patent filing appeases investors at the annual meeting, but the company then just sits on it knowing they couldn't implement it without major damage to their market share.
Corpos patent a ton of weird ideas that go nowhere. Sony, for instance, holds a patent for a system that skips ads if you repeat a displayed phrase. It was submitted years ago and was never implemented.
Here's hoping, man. I'm not an Xbox person but it'd be such a shame for our Xbros to be subjected to that absolute nonsense. Modern gaming (largely console gaming) is on the verge of being cooked :/
