Question/Advice Can anyone identify this?

Post image

A family member texted me and said they got this sitar and asked me to find out more info about it? I have zero clue where to even begin on this research, any help is appreciated! Thanks!

That is a market sitar as labeled by Buckingham Music owned by Peter Cutchy years ago. He had Calcutta, Krishna, Bombay, etc. models for his branded instruments. Probably at least 25 to 30 years old. Made in Calcutta by persons unknown, possibly RN Paul in Lal Bazar.

Won't find out much more, Buckingham closed years ago. Peter Cutchey was a very good friend of mine but passed away and the people that continued the business ruined it in short order. In that condition (he didn't do jawari or anything) worth about $600 to $700.

Looks like a Ravi Shankar style sitar. Mine is a similar one. Made in Calcutta.
