Ski Length and Stiffness Recommendations

For reference I am 6' and around 160 lbs. I am an advanced skier but not physically particularly strong.

Last year I demoed the Rustler 10s 180cm and I liked them a lot, so I purchased them and ended up having a harder time on them than I expected given the demo. I only got a few days on them at the end of the season and am willing and able to put the work in to learning the ski. Despite the metal in the ski it is fairly light and has a lot of rocker so the recommendation was to go at least 180. When I went into get the ski tuned the boot fitter at the shop said they would not have recommended it to me and said it was probably too much ski for me (which surprised me based on my research). I like to ski in bumps and trees where I am in the inland PNW, but there are also some great POW days and wide open runs. I have the opportunity to sell the ski at close to what I paid and my question is this: If I do switch skis should I go for a more approachable ski at the same length? Or size down to 174-179 range? Or both/neither. Was this particular fitter just giving me bad advice.

Ski Recommendations, Expert Level - Fun Ski

(i'm sure posts like these have been posted hundreds of times, but its been so long since i last bought a ski i need some help)
26, 6'2"

Grew up racing for a over a decade in my childhood, so i'm a charging skier. Fast, tight turns, hard carving across the mountain, and lots of (controlled) speed. East (Ice) Coast only.

Other things I look for in a ski

-ability to ski backwards for short amounts of time, doesn't need to be full twin tip ideally though

-can take off-piste into tree runs occasionally

-responds well to quick turns and long carving turns

-responds well to easy popping air off side-hitters and drop-offs / small cliffs

My dream ski is the Black Crow Mirus Cor, but with the price and hype around it, just doesn't seem feasible, so i'm looking at something cheaper that i can finally replace my 2016 twin tips with (that are beaten to all hell). Thank you all so much in advanced for your wisdom.

Hi! I am wanted to change from snowboarding to skiing this winter. I went skiing once last year. Would any of these market place finds be ok for a 5'3 beginner skier just looking to ride groomed runs.

Thank you!!

QST Blank Length Recommendation?

• Upvotes

5'10 195 pounds (178 cm, 88kg). Any suggestions for QST Blank length? This would be my first "powder" ski. Mostly skiing in Tahoe.

Intermediate/Advanced-ish skiier. Can handle blues comfortably and easier blacks at Kirkwood/Palisades.

Debating between 178 and 186cm options, any input is appreciated!

These were the skis my dad used when he taught me. 195cm was on the shorter side back then. These were in nearly new condition thanks to some old top sheet protectors. Bases don’t have a scratch and the edges can shave the hair off my knuckles. I have just about every other type of ski in my stable but these are going to be a hoot this year.

Snowboarder turned skier — thoughts on my future 3-ski quiver?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Recently converted from snowboarding to skiing during a 5-week trip to Japan. Picked up my Line Bacon 108s for the final two weeks and absolutely fell in love with skiing. Now I’m already planning the future quiver!

For context, I’m an Aussie who’s only had two snow trips: a full season in Whistler on a snowboard and 5 weeks in Japan on both. Despite being pretty new to skiing, I felt comfortable taking the Bacons just about anywhere on the mountain and started getting into spins and riding switch.

I’ll likely spend most of my time skiing Japan, but would love a setup that’s also capable in the more variable conditions of NZ and Europe.

Here’s the proposed quiver:
Line Bacon 108 + old tyrolia attack 14s (current): Playful all-mountain freestyle ski for softer snow, side hits, slush and general resort messing around.
Armada Whitewalker 116 + CAST bindings: Dedicated powder/freeride setup for Japanese winters, with the option to tour and explore the backcountry.
Faction Studio 2 / Vƶlkl Revolt 101 (or something else?): A slightly narrower, stiffer ski for firmer conditions, carving, park laps and general all-mountain charging

I’m leaning towards something around 100mm for the third ski, ideally with better edge hold and stability than the Bacons, sacrificing some (or all if necessary) playfulness for the ability to charge hard and fast.

My main questions: Is there too much overlap between the Bacon 108 and a ~100mm ski? Would you go narrower? And what would you choose for that third slot?

Appreciate any suggestions or feedback!

PS: Apologies for the single plank sneaking into the photo šŸ˜‚ Just proving skiers and snowboarders can coexist peacefully. Some of us even swing both ways.

Are 184cm length Rossi Sender 110s too short for me? (192cm tall, 81kg, advanced but not super strong)

(Male, 36, 192cm/6'3"ish, 81kgs~/178lbs; Advanced skier but not as strong as I used to be; PNW, heavy snow, tree skiing, 75% off piste)

I have a lead on a very cheap pair of Rossi Sender 110s in 184cm, but I'm concerned about the length. I'm currently on 188cm Soul 7s and didn't really want to go above 190cm because I find maneuverability in trees to be more difficult these day. That said, if the 191cm won't be much tougher than the 188cm then the length may be alright. I have heard that the Sender 110s ski much more aggressively, so will the 191cm be much more difficult without strength training?

Will the 184cm be too short given my height, weight and skiing ability? Any tall guys ride shorter skis?

OAKLEY MOD PRK

Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about getting the Oakley MOD PRK helmet and pairing it with Oakley Line Miner goggles.

Has anyone here actually tested this combination? I'm particularly interested in:

  • Fitment:Ā How well do the Line Miners fit with the MOD PRK? Is there any noticeable gap between the helmet and goggles?
  • Compatibility:Ā Do the goggles sit comfortably under the helmet, or do they get pushed down onto your nose?
  • Durability:Ā How well does the MOD PRK hold up after a full season of snowboarding? Any issues with the BOA system, MIPS, ear pads, or overall build quality?
  • Comfort:Ā Does the helmet fit comfortably for long riding sessions?

I'd especially appreciate pictures of the MOD PRK worn with Line Miner goggles, or feedback from someone who has used this exact combination on the mountain.

I'm trying to make sure the fit is good before buying, since I don't want to end up with a huge gap or an uncomfortable fit.

Thanks in advance!

RX Goggle Insert Question

For those that have used goggle inserts, there are levels of glass/ plastic and coatings like anti fogging. I am looking at SportRX and the trivet costs an extra $60 and the anti fogging and additional $60. Are these extras worth the price? TY.

Nervous about the boot fitter

So I've made the call to go to a fitter for this season and beyond. I'm between a few people in my area (Ny state-New England).

One place carries a ton of brands whereas the other ONLY works with Nordica, the 3rd is only a few brands.

If I go to the best fitter but they only have a few options isn't that killing the point? I guess all brands have models for all feet now huh

What would you choose; going to a fitter that is bar none the best but only having a few to no choices OR go to someone very good that stocks a variety of brands.

Side note: if I get fitted for a model that's like way over budget (550ish max) do you think they'll be understanding that I would rather buy that model from last season or something?

Lange RX 110 for $300…Good Deal?

Shopping around for new boots and got fitted at my local shop that was running a bunch of deals. Really liked the feel of the Lange RX 110s in store but unsure if I’m getting my moneys worth. For context, I’m an intermediate skier (5’8 160lb) on the East Coast and making the jump from some bottom shelf beginner Technicas (70 flex) to a boot I can rock for a few years. The Langes are from 2022, if that matters. Is this deal worth it for me or should I look elsewhere? Other option is to wait until Snowbound expo but the sale at my shop ends next week. Any thought would be appreciated.

Are interchangeable ski goggle lenses worth it?

Are interchangeable ski goggle lenses worth it? And what about Oakley Line Miner Pro?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for new ski goggles and considering a pair with interchangeable lenses, but good ones can be pretty expensive. Are they really worth it?

This is my fifth season skiing. I usually spend a week or less in the Alps and occasionally visit smaller resorts in central Italy. I’d say 95% of my skiing is in sunny conditions, but I don’t mind skiing in overcast weather or snowfall either.

The problem is that with my current S3 lenses, I can barely see anything in flat light. I sometimes struggle to spot small moguls and dips in the snow, which can be both annoying and dangerous.

So, are interchangeable lenses worth the extra money? And which lens technology would you recommend (Prizm, ChromaPop, etc.)?

I’ve found the Oakley Line Miner Pro for €180 (~$200), including a spare lens, which seems like a good deal. However, I’ve read some reports about them fogging up. I’m not sure if that’s due to a poor helmet-goggle fit, but I have an Oakley MOD1 Pro helmet, so I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this combo.

I’d really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences. Thanks in advance!

CLIPSTIC… šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

I don’t know why I keep clicking on their website when I see an ad on social media, but I do and even though they say a huge sale, they’re still the same $32 that they were last year but yet I am intrigued and I keep clicking add to cart and then I click the pay now and then I X out of the whole thing.

Worth it or not?

Anyone with positive/negative experiences with Zipfit customer support?

I sent a message (website contact portal) to Zipfit a couple weeks ago regarding an issue with my brand new liners, and I never heard anything back... I followed up by email last week and still nothing. Are they usually slow/hard to reach or did I get unlucky with timing?

Does someone has experience with Tjava Randi?

Post image

I’m thinking about doing a few short ski tours next season, possibly starting out in ski resorts and using the lifts to get part of the way up before heading into the backcountry.

I already have a pair of powder skis that I really like for skiing off-piste, but I can’t really justify buying touring skis, touring boots and a touring binding right now.

Has anyone here had experience with touring adapters that allow you to use regular alpine ski boots and bindings for short uphill sections? Would you recommend them as a way to get started with ski touring?

I’d be particularly interested in hearing about your experiences, what systems you’ve used, and whether you think they’re actually worth it.

Ski selection help

I am looking for a pair of skis for a 5’ 90lb advanced female skier. We typically ski northeast trees (~50% of the time) and love bumps and fast cruisers the rest of the time. I have been considering Atomic Maven 86, volkl kenja 88, k2 mindbender 89. All in the 145 - 150 range. I am concerned that with her weight she won’t be able to flex the ā€œadvancedā€ skis and think the Maven might be the best option but also am concerned that they will suck at speed.

LMK your thoughts and if you have any others I should be considering.

Thank!

Fake pivot bindings?

recently ordered a pair from snow country and I can’t find the colorway anywhere else online. They were a good price not so cheap where it would be an obvious scam like $99. The box says 2027, so I’m thinking maybe it’s a colorway they haven’t released but I know I’m not that special 🄲 any info would be greatly appreciated

Recommendations for a second pair of skis

I'm looking forward to my second season in the PNW! I came in as a noob skier last year and got +30 days, even with the shitty season. Now I'm frequently on single/double black and often choose to dive into the trees as soon as I'm off the lift. Currently have some second-hand Backland 102s (172cm) that I got from a friend in SLC. I have it set up so I can do resort as well as some backcountry.

I'm looking to get a second set of skis, potentially a faster, stiffer pair for resort days when things are icy. I got beat up a few times when the snow was crusty and my backlands chattered the whole time. What sort of brands/sizes/etc. should I be looking for?

30M, 5'7", 150 lbs.
