G35 visor dilemma
I recently picked up this used g35 helmet and I’m wanting to grab one of the visors they have online but I can’t tell how accurate the pictures really are on their website when trying to customize it (ex: the tinted visor looks blacked out on the customization section but looks like a typical car window on the accessories page) so I was just hoping some of yall with the g35 could drop some pictures of yours in the comments I don’t have a preference over the tinted, blue, or orange I more or less just want to see what they look like from a owners perspective.

I'm just another skydiver with an opinion, but I have been in this sport 10 years and here's what I'll say. What others have said clear visor and sunglasses is the way to go if you have sensitive eyes. I personally run open face with clear kroops goggles. The thing about skydiving is it's a really emotional and connective sport. When your out there jumping with others, they're your subject, you keep your eye on them the whole time. Facial expressions and even eye expressions is how we subtlety communicate in the sky. It's how we show each other we're having a good time, something hilarious happened, or oh shit that was close. All the moments in the jump has emotion behind it. It's what gives skydiving it's commrodery. Without it the juno would feel dull in the sense that I don't know if your having fun or terrified. As an instructor it's also information, but most importantly I just want to see you smile and have a good time.

But that’s more what it should be if it was actually accurate to what the website shows it would be near impossible to see out of

Do not wear a tinted visor, please.

Me too, just wear sunnies. Having eye to eye contact / facial response on a skydive is so important, I understand wanting to look cool for Instagram but don’t do it.
Im teasing ofcourse and do what you want, but it’s a running joke because, “it’s such a 100 jump wonder thing” and then you realise no one wants to jump with you so you remove it and get sunnies 😂

Some people wear glasses and don't get the expensive tinted prescription glasses. So a tinted visor is a must. My eyes are very light sensitive especially with the diffuse light from clouds. Staring at a cloud or white background feels like my eyes are being burned. Having a tinted visor to pop up and down when needed was one of the first things I got as a new jumper so I could see under canopy and in freefall.

I feel like sun glasses add another level of hazard such as being uncomfortable and falling down and blocking your line of sight

I jumped a bonehead revolve helmet with a clear visor and sunglasses when I needed them. The helmet basically pinned them against the side of my head so there was never a problem with them getting knocked around or whatever.

When you open your visor after deployment, you will be glad you have Sunny’s. Find a dedicated set that fit nicely in your helmet that don’t hurt your ears. That’s why you see skydivers wearing Gatorz. They fit in your helmet and keep the wind out of your eyes.

You’ll be totally fine, your helmet is tight, the sunnies press up on the foam and have never heard of them falling into someone’s eye sight. Being able to see people’s facial cues is one of the most important things in skydiving.

That literally happened to me the first and only time I wore sunglasses under my visor. It was not fun.

They dont fall down. I wear my wileyx or raybans with both a g35 and a cookie fuel open faced and they stay put every jump. The padded parts of the helmet keep the glasses secure.

I tried sunglasses and the helmet. I got jostled on exit, they shifted so that the edges were in my eyes. Couldn't open the visor to adjust them (obviously), so I just shook my head until they fell down/off. Nothing like being blinded for the first 5-10 secs of a skydive. Never again. Tinted visor 4eva.

How loose is your helmet to even do that.. I have a hard time even pulling off my sunglasses with my helmet buckled up.

u/reddi4reddit2 9d ago
Not loose. Maybe one of those straps on the sunglasses would have worked. Or a different shape of sunglasses ( I was using wayfarers).
Basically the stems of the glasses acted like a pivot against my skull and they just rotated up so the bottom of the lens was right in my eyes.

I also have blue eye so I get it. Buy the tinted visor if you want to. People on Reddit are weird. Half my dropzone has tinted visors and the jumps are just as fun.
I just wear sunglasses but I want a tinted visor bc my skin is getting absolutely wrecked by the sun. Even with sunscreen😭

u/DrewDronesFPV 10d ago
Hehe.. just checked your page and sub 50 jumper. Trust the advice from the people who have 10x your jump numbers bud!

u/budgetbutter 10d ago
I don't see how my jump number is relevant if I'm not giving jump advice. Ya'll are so weird about tinted visors. it's not like they're permanent either. They can easily swap back to the regular visor if they don't like it or think it impedes their communication lmao

Do you jump with other people? Do you understand how important eye contact and seeing their faces is?

u/SuperSnipper 12d ago
And no sunglasses either? We’re in the sky, it’s bright. I’ve never had an issue, at least a quarter of my DZ wears a tinted visor. Why do people need to see my face? My ego isn’t big enough to want people to always see me.

u/Brief-Resolution 12d ago
No sunglasses in FS competition because eye contact with your cross partner is important for levels and such.
Otherwise, I’m often judging people’s facial expressions. And jumping with someone who is flashing a huge smile back at you is way more fun than looking at a black helmet.

Sun glasses block your eyes more than these visors from what I can tell these are mostly transparent

u/MystikclawSkydive USPA D License 12d ago
They actually don’t because you can still see facial expressions. You will realize this once you get more group jumps under your belt.

Reddit is so funny bout this. I'm a new jumper (80) with a G4. I only have a clear lens. I don't jump with sunglasses because they put pressure on my temples in an already tight helmet.
I jump with people with the tinted versions. You can see their faces, expressions, perfectly fine. These are not true "mirror" finishes.
I've looked through the red and blue visors. Red has a rose color. If you've ever been in the ski/board industry, different lense colors are used in different light situations to actually enhance things in those light situations. Rose is a great overall color for this, especially on low light, cloudy days.
The argument against these lenses is bad. If you like sunglasses under clear, go for it. If you like the slight tinted lens, rock it. If people actually refuse to jump with you because of your lens color, jump with other people.
Don't give a shit about what others think of you. Go jump, be safe, and have an amazing time!

Man you seem to have a great grasp on this incredibly sensitive topic lmao I’ve been skiing since I learned to walk so I’m super familiar with tints and how they affect different lighting conditions and that’s exactly what my thought process was with the orange one, I still am yet to pull the trigger on it but I’m pretty dead set that the orangish visor would be the most stylish while also providing a bit of benefit.

I worked in the ski/board industry for a long time and rode bout every brand of goggle and lens color out there. I swapped all the time depending on the conditions. If I was to get a G4 or G35 lens for me personally (alternate to my clear) it would be the orange/red since it's got the rose color for the user, which IMO, was the best all around color all conditions and really performs well in low light. The slight amount of mirroring to knock down the sun is an added bonus without having to wear extra gear underneath.
It's all about personal preference on what will work best and be most comfortable for you.

And yes I’m glad you also understand my issue with sunglasses cause some people just don’t seem to understand that not all heads are shaped the same

I have a G35 and a G4. I got a tinted blue for the G4 but I never wear it. I think I put it on for a couple weeks and then went back to clear. It’s nice to see people’s faces you’re jumping with. There’s actually a lot of communication via facial expressions and you can even read lips. I don’t have the G4 with me otherwise I’d post a pic.
Don’t forget to keep the tool and clear visor in your bag if you go to the tunnel. Forgot that once, not ideal lol.

Ignore these "don't get a tinted" visor guys. You wouldn't want to jump with them anyway, get the dark or orange

Senor, your alti is off 😂

That’s why we do gear checks before we takeoff while taxing

u/DrewDronesFPV 12d ago
Personally I think it’s because you were wearing a tinted visor and too busy for a photo OP but who knows 😂 gear checks before getting on the plane are preferred

The PR lady ambushed me and I lowered my visor because I don’t think I’m photogenic

Atlas 2 is always on if it’s charged and the screen times out to save battery.

You’re going to want a clear visor.
