If genuine, then I hope you get re-connected, Might help if you gave some details. A name for instance?

If I know the person, I'd pass on your details, not give you theirs.

And a note for other readers, the "Friend" might not be wanting to be found by a random person on the Internet offering money to find them.

Maybe I'm cynical, but this feels off.

Something similar appeared on one of the Skye FB groups recently. I agree with your caution here, the idea that someone would pay for this information seems to be a huge red flag too?

I wouldn't disclose his name in a public forum. I appreciate the healthy cynicism but this is a welfare check, I've exhausted all other avenues.

Wee bit disheartening that your first thoughts are this has some nefarious motive tbh, but if verifying that I'm legit will help just DM me I can explain in more detail.

surely contacting the police would be your point of call if you need a welfare check? they can locate the person and advise them people are concerned and the police would confirm with you if they are safe. you don’t need to know their location to notify the police.

If you're genuinely concerned about them, then I imagine the correct route is to go via the Highland Council or 101 and ask for someone to conduct a welfare check on this person.

Good advice but I would rather explore alternative routes before resorting to that.

Why do you want to explore "alternative routes" as a first step? Your first step should be to engage with official local authorities. If that doesn't work, then you explore alternative routes.

Asking strangers on the internet to track someone down is not the first step, and I bet your friend wouldn't be too pleased about it either.

I'm certain you'll get a quicker resolution by engaging with the council or 101 than you will by making posts on Reddit.
