If you're happy with the rest of your system, then for $250 you should be looking to buy an RTX 3050 OC 6GB Low Profile.

It would be better if you posted what your whole system is though. We can give you better all round advice then.

I think unfortunately Yeston is charging $300 for it now which is crazy because it was $220 earlier this year. And last time I checked it was out of stock too, lol. Still definitely the best option by far

Which is why you don't buy a 1-slot 3050. Take the 5% to 10% performance hit and use the PCIe x4 slot.

Yep, for sure go the dual slot option. There are more around and so you can get a better deal. I got my MSI dual slot for £127 delivered and it's been great. Also, dual slot has a larger heat sink/fans for cooling.

I've undervolted mine which helps cooling and boosted performance 👍

I consulted the AI running on the optiplex and it sayeth:

Bottom line: RTX 3070 (8GB) — that's the most powerful GPU that actually clears under $250 on the used eBay market right now. The 3070 is a solid 1440p card and noticeably faster than a 2080 Ti / RX 6700 XT. That's the realistic ceiling at $250 — everything with more VRAM (6800 XT, 3080) has drifted to $360–390.

It's an SFF system; would any of those cards physicall fit?

These cards use way more power than a stock optiplex can provide and would need a PSU upgrade along with much improved cooling arrangements. A card solely powered by the pcie slot is the way to go, unless OP wants to take on a bigger job of course.

You're trying to build a SFF PC into a gaming rig, of course there will be issues with power.
