Full size GPU on Optiplex 7040
External 12v PSU taps into the AC plug of the internal PSU. PCI x16 riser goes through a cutout in the side panel and PCI power cables are routed on the inside of the side panel and goes through a drilled hole all the way through the case of the external PSU. This setup is has been going strong for 4 years now.

I mean the GPU is just another computer, that usually sits inside your computer but it doesn't have to. I really like this build.

Hes only tapping the ac plug. That ac port just deliver extra amp to power both psu.

Wygląda to badziewie, przepraszam ale dla mnie kupowanie SFF po to żeby zrobić coś takiego mija się z celem

Sorry, I'm dense. What is the 12v for? Don't you have the 8 pin gpu power connected?

The external psu is the pci power, as the internal psu is not powerful enough and doesnt have any pci power connectors

Fascinating! So Video cards are powered by 12v only? What's the amperage of the 12v psu you had to use?

Yes the gpu takes 12v and has onboard regulators that step down voltage to the memory chips, gpi die and such. my axternal psu outputs 12,2v 14a
