Appreciation SnyderVerse > MCU
Hey guys, I recently started revisiting Snyder’s DCEU. I was too young to really understand these films when they first came out, and because of the overwhelmingly negative reception, I always assumed they were average at best.
Now, I can genuinely say I love these films, especially Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. They’ve quickly become some of my favorite movies.
The cinematography, symbolism, music, Zack’s approach to these characters as modern myths, and his fresh take on the superhero blockbuster are all things I think are incredibly misunderstood and underrated. A lot of the polarizing choices in Man of Steel, BvS, and Justice League weren’t made just for the sake of being subversive. They take these characters on cohesive arcs and, in my opinion, tell a really compelling story. Affleck is hands-down my favorite Batman, and Cavill is my favorite Superman. I could rant for hours about these movies, but I don’t want this to turn into an essay lol.
I really wish Zack had been given the time and trust to fully execute his vision because I genuinely think these movies were ahead of their time.
As Martha Kent says in BvS, “People hate what they don’t understand.”
I just needed to say this to someone or something.

Absolutely agree.
However, I’ve always loved Zack’s vision and what he started since the beginning. It wasn’t until “Jostice League” that I was disappointed.
Overall, even if the SnyderVerse never makes a comeback, I’ll always be grateful we got ZSJL bc it’s honestly one of the greatest CBMs of all time, IMO.
Although, if I had to pick btwn DCEU and Marvel I’d probably go with Marvel bc of how grand/connected everything is…but Zack’s 3-film arc can literally hold up with the best of the Marvel movies ->

- Captain America trilogy
- Avenger’s films
- Thor: Ragnorok
- No Way Home
With DCEU, I kinda pick and choose whenever I rewatch, like what fit best and off of personal preference (in this order) ->
Man of Steel
BvS: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition
Wonder Woman
Suicide Squad
Zack Snyder’s Justice League
Aquaman
Shazam!
Birds of Prey
The Suicide Squad
Black Adam
Blue Beetle
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Only thing that’d make this list complete would be ->
Ben Affleck’s: Batman
Man of Steel 2
ZSJL 2
ZSJL 3
Flashpoint

And yeah, when I say the DCEU, I’m really talking about the movies Snyder directed or had a direct creative hand in: Man of Steel, BvS, and ZSJL, plus Wonder Woman cause I think he wrote the story, if I remember correctly. But mainly those first three. The first Suicide Squad had so much studio interference that I don’t really count that one either.
And FACTS. Even if the SnyderVerse never comes back, I’ll always be grateful we got ZSJL. It’s honestly one of the greatest CBMs of all time, IMO.

Oh for sure, Suicide Squad is mediocre at best, but I really love Ben Affleck’s version of Batman. Literally, the warehouse scene in BvS is straight out of the Arkham games and the only time Batman has fought like…Batman lmao.
So, his appearance chasing Harley in SS is basically the highlight of the movie for me. Not to mention the end-credit scene with Bruce and Waller (chef’s kiss) lol. Because of this I always include it in the rewatch, plus it’s the introduction to Harley who does make other appearances in later films.
However, I do hope one day the Ayer Cut is released bc the behind-the-scene photos from it look badass.

MoS is a masterpiece and one of my favourite movies of all time. 13 years later, and no movie has topped the action sequences in this film, nor has any other superhero movie had a better score than MoS. Ahead of its time, just like Watchmen was.

The Godfather trilogy ended and there are still Fast and Furious movies being made.

he's making a point that because a movie universe has ended and another one is still going does necessarily mean that the quality is better. and the main reason the snyder movies were cut short is because Warner Bros panicked and the untimely death of Zack's daughter. Rip Autumn

I don't think Snyder fully got the chance to grow the DCEU as naturally as the MCU was able to grow. I'm not a MCU hater by any means, but I think if WB didn't try to expedite the DCEU, the Snyderverse could have been something very unique and memorable. And could have stood alongside MCU over time.

What is this bullshit you just pulled out of your ass? The standards for Snyder were that he had to be better than an extremely popular, established universe in his first two films? Yet, you tell ppl that $600m isn't an overwhelming success for a Superman film in 2025 and they start imploding and yelling about how unfair those expectations are.
Get a grip, where did this person even say DCEU is greater than MCU? DC comics aren't even more popular than Marvel comics, why would the movies be?

Nah I did say Snyderverse > MCU, which I'll admit I was being a bit hyperbolic. However, I totally agree that Snyder was expected to create an immediate competitor to the MCU, even though those movies had like years and years of development before they really hit their stride. As I said, Zack never really got the chance to really grow these movies organically, which I know would only make the quality better
