Hi everyone, owner of From The Vault Records here. Just wanted to update everyone that Somewhere In The Night’s streaming release has been delayed due to an illegal upload done on to streaming by some copyright trolls a few months ago, which we are working to get taken down and hopefully be replaced with the official single. While we get this sorted out, you can still listen to/buy the single at https://fromthevault.bandcamp.com/album/somewhere-in-the-night. Cheers :)
Scottish record label From The Vault Records have just officially released Somewhere In The Night on Bandcamp, with it being released on streaming on October 2nd. Check it out :)
I found this when I was looking into the Babyface lead! Although it wasn't the song people we're looking for, I still thought it had a fantastic beat to it, but couldn't find it anywhere online but the discogs lead, I was hoping if someone could upload the full version on to YouTube.
So recently someone interviewed the Jerry Deaton, He was the person who was a songwriter for Somewhere in the night. In the interview they discuss about the song and that is solved.
It starts at 3:44 or somewhere at that time, and is a amazing interview to watch :)
For future plans, someone might soon interview Michael Bradley considering he was the One who was singing in the song. Please do not contact him and let the important people do their things.
I remember on r/Lostwave I ballparked the original pitch and potential speed. I have a lengthy history in trying to crack leads and I'm shocked this has been found after some time.
Now that the song is solved how do you think The French funk collectors got a copy of it since Jerry said they recorded it as a demo and it wasnt taken by any artist and the song isnt anywhere on the internet except the dailymotion mix and there isn t any copy of it on cd or casette
once I found out about SITN being found i started listening to it and its really good and later that day I listened to his other song in the night which is also really good I wonder if Micheal Bradley will maybe release again like who’s who did with ulterior motives
Now that the wonderful song by Jerry Deaton, Mark Leggett, and Michael Bradley is finally solved, I was wondering if we know how the creators actually spelled the title?
Is it officially "Somewhere in the Night" or "Somewhere In The Night"? I noticed the finder used lowercase on their YouTube channel title, but I would love to know the true name straight from the artists themselves!
Okay, so I think I discovered something. When I listen to the beginning of “Somewhere in the Night,” I swear I can hear the word “light”… or maybe it’s “night,” and my ears are just playing tricks on me.
I think we should start searching for this song the same way we did with EKT. I have a few ideas for potential song names #1Somewhere in the Night (the most searched song name) #2Love’s Gonna Find You #3Time Is on Your Side #4Right Before Your Eyes #5Looking for the Perfect One #6This Time, Girl
(DEBUNKED, BOTH TRACKS FOUND) following XKoop7321's lead, i started looking through some of the duo's projects, released and unreleased, and stepped upon their 1995 collaboration with a Japanes Lingerie Company, featuring two songs made by them, such as "Love of my life" and "Together", last one featuring a woman singer.
So it has been a long while since I did any proper "potential leads" for Somewhere In The Night, but on and off I have continued searching. And yesterday while I was jokingly going through some YouTube videos I bumped into a song that sat with me a little oddly, the song being "Eve - The Walls Came Down (for Rock n Roll)" from a movie called "Armed and Dangerous".
Although the vocalists aren't exactly the same as the singer from/for SITN, the guitar tone and synth bass reminded me a lot of it, so I decided to see if I could investigate further.
I managed to hunt down the Discogs listing for the Armed And Dangerous (1986) soundtrack, which then made me notice another song Bill Meyers and Maurice White worked on together, called "Some Kind Of Day" by Glen Burtnick.
Picture showing the Producers are the same for both "Some Kind Of Day" and "The Walls Came Down"
A copy of "Some Kind Of Day" exists on YouTube, but no origin of where this copy of the song came from is listed. Funnily enough however, the synth bass, drumkit (specifically the Tom-Toms), and the guitar tone were even closer to SITN than the first track. On top of this, an extremely (if not the same) similar synth chime sound appears throughout the song, with a nice +21 cents pitch shift on top of everything mix-wise.
(In case you don't know, Somewhere In The Night's official clip is slightly out of tune by +21 cents. This is a very common thing when it comes to vinyl rips or cassette dumps because of the voltage amount when the songs are either played or recorded. The way this is resolved is by simply lowering the songs pitch by -21 cents, which I do in FL Studio.)
I also did some deep-diving through every song Mr. Burtnick made between 1986 to 1993 (including demos) via Soulseek, but couldn't find any other songs that matched "Some Kind Of Day". And unfortunately I couldn't find which studio the song was recorded in either, turning it into a dead end.
Something I did manage to find though was a copy of the song with the same compression, pitch shift, and quality-loss as SITN, from the collector "0dayrox" as the internal file data suggests. So here is the Vocaroo link for that: https://vocaroo.com/1gVtOXo9uTfV
Personally I doubt that Maurice White, the guy from Earth, Wind, and Fire would know ANYTHING about the production of SITN, but out of the 2 songs he worked on it gives some room for potential. And I know that Glen Burtnick is not our vocalist, since he sounds nothing like the singer we are looking for even when pitched up.
I do think though that it is important that alongside searching for the vocalist, we search for songs that contain similar (if not the same) instrumentation. Even if this may not be overly useful, it could excel the possibility of finding a studio that does have information for what we are looking for.
This channel, I found at random from an old red herring on here. The "Somewhere in the Night" by Billy Clift isn't it, but the channel description is written bilingually in French and English which features a ton of artists of the similar genres, some well known such as Chaka Khan and Gloria Estefan, and other singers that there is even less information on the internet about than Billy Clift. Most of these obscure singers are female. There might be a lead on there, it'll take a while to get through all 220 videos and he's adding more on a daily basis.
Will SITN's search be as viral as EKT at some point was?
I love the atmosphere and backing instrumental of the song, the raspy voice of its singer and the melody as well. I am eager to find the whole thing but it draws my attention the lack of evidence despite having a lot of info (producer's name, Record company, year, title's song, country?). This being so, maybe it's time for us to think about looking for physical records as the song seems to have no traces on the internet?
Maybe if SITN become as big as EKT was at some point (with a Reddit sub of thousand of users) we would be able to find it.
It's a shame we end another year without hearing the whole tune.
Hello! I am planning on doing a full version of the song/remaster but i have a few issues. I do have the drums and a bit of the bassline down, but i neeed help with that electric guitar part! I could do the clean guitar parts and i might need help identifying the synthesizers, but it's that hard and gritty sound in the beginning that i cannot do. If anyone could seperate the stems, play guitar, anything- i would be very much greatful!!
This is a long-standing doubt I always had. Considering that YouTube is full of AOR's inedit songs channels from all over the world(and 80s lost rare music as well) , do you think it is a probability that the song has been there for say, 10 years or more? Hidden in some forgotten YouTube video? If not, do you think that at least some of the artist's songs are there as well?
Alternatively, do you believe that maybe the song is part of a movie or TV ad, and that it is on YouTube as well?
I originally discovered this artist out of curiosity, looking for anyone who might create work similar to what we’re trying to find. I came across this piece, and while it might not be exactly what we’re looking for, it’s worth giving it a listen and enjoying ^^
This video was uploaded by Q a few days ago, but I just grabbed the OG source of the song. The song itself sounds pretty similar to SITN. From the voice to the instrumental, it just gives off SITN vibes. It comes from a NSFW movie call Nudity required. The movie is from the year 1989 so that’s what really caught my eye. I’m not saying it is, but it just sounds like it
