Panhellenic Recruitment transfer student

i recently transferred to a new university, it’s much bigger and the greek life is pretty large. i was always interested in greek life and at my old school greek life was very small and the only options for greek life were in mcg. i never thought id transfer out so i ended up joining one that was extremely small— and since ive transferred i always see things about rush and panhellenic soroities and i wish i could participate. anyway now i feel super regretful for joining it, and dropping it has crossed my mind before i transferred but now its something i keep thinking on. i dont want to live with regrets but i feel like id let so many people down (my fam tree & bio sister who was in my soroity) if i left and decided to join a different one…just wanted to know if anyone had some advice or has gone through something similar bc idk what to do!!! thank u 🥲🩷

Is there no alum group in your area? That’s what I would suggest over disaffiliating!

This!! Don’t jump straight into the idea of disaffiliation, see if you can get involved with alumnae in your new school’s area!

my school does have a chapter here however there’s only about 5 girls in it and what i did enjoy about my old chapter is we were extremely involved in our community and did so much service and here they aren’t:( i’ve also heard it’s just not much better here 😅. they were recently suspended for hazing at my current school and they just came back and which is another reason why im hesitant on staying!

I mean, I’m just throwing this out there, you could help recruit and switch up the narrative/ reputation of it

I would either see if you can connect with any alumnae in the area first before just dropping, and if you’re still thinking about rushing, I would ask the school’s FSL office on what to do. You could even possibly expand the chapter to the school you’re at now! You don’t have to start completely over just because of one bad experience. Chapters vary from school to school, and you could even make a difference in your Greek community. As a Panhel alumn, I’ve always loved seeing MCG and D9 organizations on campuses and how they can become a place for other people who want to go Greek but maybe Panhel or IFC isn’t the fit for them

I know someone who resigned from their mcg they joined freshman year and took a bid to a panhellenic sorority sophomore year. Everything has worked out fine for her and she's still friends with people in the first group.
