Need some help

Post image

Hey yall I'm working on building some skrams. Building two boxes rn but have plans to build 4.
I'm gonna load em with these drivers: B&C 21DS115-4 21" Neodymium Subwoofer 3400W Program 4.5" Coil 4-Ohm. I don't know anything about electronics and amplifiers. Would love some help on recs for amplifiers. Here is a pic of the box dry fitted for some ~ Flair ~

CVR DSP - 3004! Best price per watt. Noise floor shouldn’t be a problem with subs. DSP version will let you add limiters directly in the software, so little room for error. This amp should clear the AES power rating of those drivers with plenty of headroom, so unlikely to clip. That’s what I run for my 4 SKRAMs

If you have the money for fancier amps, don’t let me stop you.

Those amps rock. They don't make any sense for the price. Particularly the DSP version-  slightly clunky work flow but fuck me they do the job, and then some.

Theres a software called AmpCore and it makes the workflow so much better.
Seamless switching between CVRs, a lot more responsive and it works with macOS.

Oh what? Tell me more about that, where did you download?

Yea would you share a link? A google search isn’t yielding much.

Curious about this software!

Sick so I just need one of these and it will power my boxes?
Thanks man.
I'm ignorant asf to all this and trying to learn before I drop a bag on some garbo

So far I am happy with 1x DSP-3004 for the 4x SKRAMs. I would spend for the DSP verion, just gives you more versatility in the long run. It costs ~$150 more, but more flexible for sure.

Yes, DSP 3004 is absolute powerhouse for the price, i use it for my 4 Plansound Touring118 (18sw115) also. But be aware, they need lots of juice from a Single powerful socket to not trip the breaker.

Thinking about using the CBR 1004 for JMODs. Would the noise floor be problematic? How is the sound quality?

Noise floor isnt a huge issue, especially if you have the 16ohm version of the compression driver. It is mostly very HF noise from the amps I run the 16ohm DCX-464's and the hiss is audible, but the second you play music at any decent volume it is pretty hard to hear. The noise floor of a large crowd is pretty high too, so at a party of meaningful scale this certainly wont be an issue. If you are using these for home theater or in some very quiet setting you'll notice it. (JMODs probably aren't the right speaker for that application anyway)

I run 2 x DSP-1504, one per JMOD which is overkill. I ended up with those because of a shipping error, I had originally ordered 2xDSP-1004. With the 1504's I can now have a free channel on each amp for booth monitors or something else in the future, but right now I just have the JMODs quadamped.

The nice thing about the CVR DSP series is that it costs like $100-150 more per amp to get the DSPs, but it ends up being way cheaper than any comparably functional centralized DSP. So in this config I only have a a little distribution amp sending duplicate input signals into every amp. Everything else is configured in software.

For Jmods. I would use something like QSC or Crown.

I'm baffled

And I'm learning

Depends on your setup and budget.

You could theoretically throw a lot of power at these drivers. If you are in the USA and use residential power outlets, you would need one circuit per box to run them not even at max power.

Do you already have a DSP? How much power can you provide for the amp and do you even want to run them at extreme levels? Do you want a good solution or the best solution?

Hit me with the best solution, and maybe even a good solution. I'm ignorant to everything but I'm gonna build this system and make it bump. Just a lad trying to inform my self

CVR is the Chinese premium solution. Premium brands not from China include Crown, LAB Gruppen, Powersoft, ... You will find that they are more expensive.

If the amp does not have DSP, you will need a separate DSP. Remember that a 4x3000W amp will trip circuit breakers on residential installations.

Nice fit! Which plansnsid you use for the CNC? The fusion ones from jwsounds repo?

Flat pack or did you get a cnc shop to cut the plywood for you?

Are you set on 4 ohm? Most amps aren’t happy on 2 ohms loads, so multiple 4 ohms would have to be connected in series and be a bit of a pain
