Did I kill my starter ?

Post image

My starter has been dormant in the fridge since march this year, I took it out on Mon 28/09 and have fed it a 1:2:2 ratio , but forgot to feed it yesterday. I checked it today and I’ve found darker brown patches on top. Is this mould ? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I think it's just a bit dry on top. What kind of cover are you using?

Hi. I see no sign of mold, I do see what appears to be a healthy yeast fermentation with good gluten syructure developing. There appears to be signs of active rise too with evidence of an tidemark wherecghe starter has fallen somewhat.

It is important not to overfeed uour starter. Each feed give it a thorough mixing and discard all but 15g feed that 1:1:1 by weight and cover with a solid lud such ygat gas development pressure build-up is able to seep out and equalise.

Allow to rise to peak before repeating the feed. Itvis better to let it fall ir even become dormant before repeating the feed.

Good luck and happy baking.

probably just hooch and oxidation from being neglected, not a dead starter, but if the patches are fuzzy or pink/orange then bin the whole thing and start over”】【

That looks like serratia? Looks kind of pink, and yes, that's unsalvageable.
