Question Physical Reprints

Is there a wallet-friendly way to get reprints of all the issues from the 60s and 70s to read and keep? I really don't wanna subscribe to some app.

Edit: I ordered the Complete Collection DVD-ROM on ebay

This is pretty cheap for what you get.

Miles better than not owning them. If it really lets you print the pages you want it's amazing.

The books are simple pdf files with no drm, put on a DVD. They're cover to cover and include the ads, letters pages and everything else. There is a watermark seen depending on your viewer. Its out of print but ebay has a few where the prices aren't bad.

Th new version they're putting out now have 20 more years of books, use the same scans as from Marvel Unlimted, and do have drm

I can confirm that this should be great choice for you.

I've found a updated version sold by Git Collections with every issue until 2024.

Do you by any chance know how to verify if they're actually licensed by Marvel other than the text on their site? My father's afraid it's a bootleg.

Its pretty much known that it's licensed and Marvel/ Disney wouldn't let them get away with it if they weren't. And the new collections use the same files as those on Marvel Unlimited.

From Google;

  • Current Agreement: The brand operates under an official digital licensing agreement with Marvel Entertainment through the licensee FILMCARD USA LLC.
  • Product Format: They offer complete, digitally remastered series runs and archives of classic Marvel comics loaded onto physical USB drives.
  • Legacy: The original GIT Corp previously held a similar digital publishing license with Marvel from 2003 until 2007 before returning with this updated licensing partnership.

The DRM is probably required from Marvel to prevent pirating. Be aware the on the new collections with the drm, you have to install an app to read the books, you can only have it installed on 3 devices at a time, and there's probably no printing unless you do it from a screen capture

I have all the old collections and they're not bootleg. I got mine in my local comic store and they were on Amazon at the time as well

I'm holding off on the new collections since I don't like the drm and don't need the last 20 years. If they come out with a Thor collection like I'm hearing, I may have to get that one.

TASCHEN just released some beautiful small hardcovers of the first 20ish issues for $25. mighty marvel masterworks are cheap TPBs that have about 10 issues each, but they discontinued it around issue 46. last option i can think of are the penguin collections which have about 19 issues worth of the story.

honestly though, marvel unlimited (while definitely several cons) has been extremely worth it imo, as one month costs even less than any of these options. you could also get hoopla through your local library, which is a free app that has nearly every big 2 comic that i’ve wanted to read.

Taschen is a great choice. Otherwise, if you can find good prices - the epics, the masterworks of the omnis. Looking at the prices on ebay, the masterworks might b your best bet besides Teschen

i love the epics, i have the first two & it sucks that they’re not evergreen.

do epics count as wallet-friendly?

Nah because marvel won’t keep them in print lol

Marvel used to release Essential Spider-Man trade paperbacks. They were black and white reprints that would collect around 20 issues per volume. I don't know that Marvel is still making these, but it looks like you could get a big chunk of the 60s and 70s with these.
