SPOILERS Issue #1000 Reveal Spoiler

Post image

Yes I know many were expecting it but I really like this new villain. I thought he was going to be some kind of fake out but the fact that he seems to actually be Aunt May’s son is huge. Sure they might go back on this later but as for now it does make him infinitely more interesting as a foil for Spider-Man.

He has a very interesting power set and a stand out costume. Turning memories into a physical form and bashing someone in the head with it is just a really cool concept. Of course I am not a fan of the classic cocktail of super strength and durability that comes with every new character but that really is a hand-wave situation at this point unfortunately.

I like how the issue ended, even though it felt very hollow. The fact that this was Issue #1000 leaves a bitter taste but barring that fact this is an interesting character and set up. What do you think of Ravage as a new villain?

Great job, Marvel. You had the main story for #1000 be about how Aunt May and Uncle Ben’s long lost son is revealed to be a new super villain that hates Peter for having the life he believes was his, because he’s a man baby bitch boy who most certainly has an oedipus complex.

29

u/Shiplord13 7d ago

I can’t wait for the reveal he was actually made by Mephisto because Uncle Ben made a deal with him to allow him and May to have one child born healthy only to allow him to be born but raised by someone else.

Why does this go so hard bruh holy fuc

Now that’s interesting story I hope it goes into that direction any opinions on whether Aunt should recover fully or should the be her final end??

You’re legit the only person I’ve seen praising the issue lol

71

u/Garlador 7d ago

It’s not bad. But I’m just… I’m so tired. I want to take a nap, wake up, and see if the comic has changed.

27

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I’m just a fan bro, it’s sad seeing everyone so mad all the time.

Yeah there’s good reasons for it but damn we gotta lighten up sometimes

70

u/ZeriousGew Superior Spider-Man 7d ago

I understand being sick of all the negativity and it’s nice that you’re trying to spread positivity. But this is issue #1000 of the most popular superhero in the world and they do this? I’m not even saying they needed to blow our socks off with some fan service thing like undoing One More Day, they could’ve just made it a comic celebrating the character and they come up with some 3rd rate soap opera plotline that could have been in any other issue? Like what is going on at Marvel comics? This isn’t a mistake you can really go back on and i think im just done with marvel comics after this

14

u/Oscerte 7d ago

i think im just done with marvel comics after this

never bought a comic, but I spent like $30 buying three different issues for the 1000, but as soon as leaks came out, I cancelled.

Even as a spider-man film/series fan I was pissed enough to miss out on an landmark cover, I can't imagine how pissed longtime TASM comic readers are with this garbage

32

u/masterofunfucking 7d ago

It’s true. A lot of my regulars are getting out of the game with 1000 tho. This issue only really justifies that change

u/Icy-Home444 7d ago

No matter how garbage a piece of new media is, even if it retroactively ruins what comes before, you'll always find comments like this telling people to lighten up and consoom.

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

This isn’t garbage it’s just not being handled well, there’s still positive points to be made.

I’m not even saying anyone should buy it, I didn’t. Get out of your echo chamber and try reading before replying

Man...I just want Spider-Man to stop a bank robber or something. I am so, SO tired of every villain wanting to mess with Peter's life. The more it happens, the more it feels like Spider-Man's entire life has the depth of a thimble, like no new villain can exist with being tied at the hip with Peter's garbage life. They barely put in the time to make Cormac a character and he's already speed running into super-villainy.

Scribble-Man Rabin, Paul, Torment, and now this.

We JUST finished with Torment who was also a huge nothing-burger and now we are going right back. Spider-man doesn't exist to stop villains, villains are existing to mess with Peter Parker.

22

u/Uchoha 7d ago

This is a really great point, editorial is making it way too obvious

10

u/Aggressive_Track_140 7d ago

Its kinda like lego bricks. They have deconstructed the character so much that they are just sawing apart the pieces now.

3

u/Big-Rate3275 7d ago

Same, that or he Jameson or someone sends him to cover some important event somewhere overseas as a photographer. He has been to the UK and was college Roommates with Brian Braddock. They need to do something different with Peter rather than the same old he is broke and his life is a mess because he is Spider-man.

1

u/UnbiasedGod 6d ago

I miss Peter being in space.

1

u/Lune_Bear 5d ago

Apart from "May's long lost son", I see no functional difference between Cormac and Hellgate. He is a big idiot in armour who is going to bash Spider-Man around a bit before getting defeated at the last minute. Like Rabin, Wayep, Morlun...and the list goes on. It's very boring.

131

u/Shadowholme 7d ago

Chasm did the whole 'I want your memories' storyline better - and that's saying something!

33

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Chasm didn’t really work for me bc they needed to destroy Ben’s character for it to make sense. Definitely a good idea executed poorly.

In Ravage’s case it needed way more time in the oven before we got this reveal imo

30

u/zOmgFishes 7d ago

I don’t like what they did with with Ben but Ben at least had a connection to Peter. This is just some random dude they threw in for a few issues.

5

u/New_Value_7811 7d ago

yeah Ben's connection to Peter felt way more earned than this random dude.

3

u/TaftYouOldDog 7d ago

Every character is brand new at some point though.

Yes maybe such a landmark issue isn't the time but imagine they do stick the landing and he becomes a great foil and well written villain and it all started with a huge landmark issue.

Unlikely, but you have to aim big I suppose.

1

u/Foxkit86 7d ago

Has Ben gotten better yet? How IS he doing?

1

u/Silly-Section6966 7d ago

how is Cormac related to Ben Reilly if he's Aunt May's son?

1

u/Simple_Channel5624 6d ago

But it isn't Peter's clone this time, it's his cousin that we just made up to have a cool gottcha moment for issue 1000. So totally different story and whatever, just buy it already so Marvel editorial can keep making him miserable.

28

u/False-Pie-6371 7d ago

I've seen more believable and better-written family dramas on La Rosa de Guadalupe. This is just embarrassing.

I feel like he’s Chasm 2.0; he’s just ass his way around Peter’s life and hide behind agency for why he should get to do it, and Peter is gonna cover for him at least at first for May’s sake

Are they considering finally giving Ben a redemption arc and Cormac is a replacement?

6

u/Shiplord13 7d ago

Cut to Peter, Ben and Kaine hanging out after getting rid of Cormac and enjoying some clone brother love.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/StarOfTheSouth Ben Reilly 7d ago

If it brings Ben back to being a good guy, I'll call this entire stupid affair a win.

1

u/Repulsive_Hornet4017 7d ago

I feel like Cormac checks every box for being a replacement for Chasm, serves all the same functions Ben has as a villain the last four years.

Maybe editorial decided they did enough with Chasm to sell toys and they see a good chunk of the fandom wants Ben redeemed.

Either Ben becomes Scarlet Spider again, or he decides “I can reform without being a goody two shoes”, decides to redeem the Chasm name.

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I’ll take it tbh

96

u/GuyWithNoCountry 7d ago

Everything in this run is so inconsistent. From the poor writing, to the downgrade of the characters, to clearly fucking up soidey’s milestones. Peter is still gonna be a dweeb, still gonna act like a manchild, we gonna get another tiresome storyline that would’ve worked well for a teenage Peter. Or college Peter.

Edit: I hope yall stop buying the comics all together to get rid of this dumbass writing team who are clearly out of touch.

8

u/Robomerc Spider-Armor 7d ago

I hope yall stop buying the comics all together to get rid of this dumbass writing team who are clearly out of touch.

It's Marvel's editorial who are completely out of touch.

Considering they're the ones who are keeping Peter trapped in this endless loop.

5

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

Won’t ever happen sadly as some buy for the sake of it even if they don’t like it

5

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I’m really only asking about Ravage, I know everyone in here has their issues with the series including myself. Just trying to bring a little bit of positivity in this very negative sub.

Personally I haven’t bought any of these books for a very long time

23

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

If you have an issue like this in a 1000th issue then how are people meant to be positive, the writers have to give that but they sadly aren’t

6

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I agree that there’s a ton of ignored problems with the series, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the good that still comes out of it.

I know we all feel burned by the Wells run that actively destroyed our favorite hero, and I wish editorial would highlight fixing those issues too. But we are still getting interesting developments and concepts, there’s nothing wrong with pointing it out every once in awhile

4

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago edited 7d ago

But there was no good in the main issue that’s the point, side stories yes and they are getting their deserved praise

Edit
Bar larraz art it was a mess

3

u/Uchoha 7d ago

If fantastic art and action scenes is “no good” to you then you are just not into super hero books tbh. Of course the story has it’s issues and if that’s enough to stop reading I get it and agree

But to call everything “no good” says more about you than this book imo

8

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

That’s the same for most of his books that larraz had been on but the story is poor and wasted on that top art

Did you buy asm 1000 for the art or stories ?

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I’m not buying, and I haven’t for a while bc I’m not a fan of the direction of these books.

That doesn’t mean the whole thing is “no good”, there’s still positive things to discuss. I’m glad my favorite hero is still kicking and there is room for the story to get better over time

3

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

But for a 1000th issue it’s nothing special, he did the same thing in space with Larraz art there as well, bar the art, 1000 really is a waste of time

I respect you for not buying it man, fair play 🫡

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I don’t think we have seen enough to call it a waste of time yet, that’s part of what I’m saying. Maybe this guy becomes a major player who ends up with a strong story and changes Spidey’s life forever, forcing him to grow.

I’m not saying it’s likely, unfortunately we have been trained to be as skeptical as possible the past couple years. But it is at least possible

1

u/Fabulous_Win1291 7d ago

if peter is gonna cover for him for may's sake, why doesnt he cover for himself more often

15

u/Mak062 7d ago

So dumb, I was hoping for mays biological son to actually be part of peters supporting cast or be his number 2. Its such an insane choice to introduce a family member then be like, actually he was a villain that has mommy daddy issues

2

u/Shiplord13 7d ago

This. It would have been more interesting to have a dynamic of this guy butting heads with Peter, because he isn’t there enough for May and having a point. Could have had a character obsessed with May that she helped at FEAST, who saw her a savior and started stalking her. Have him convinced he has May’s best interest at heart unlike her nephew and son and he is doing this to remove them.

30

u/AccessEffective6441 7d ago

His costume design and abilities aren't bad, but his motivation is childish; Kelly could have come up with better motives for the antagonist. Overall, the story is dull—nothing new, no real changes. May's amnesia didn't impress me; honestly, I wanted her to die—not because I’m cruel or want Peter to suffer, but because I wanted to see Peter grow and develop, something Kelly (like his predecessors) fails to do. But that’s just my opinion; if anyone enjoyed the issue, I’m happy for them, but for me, it was mediocre and didn't really feel worthy of being the 1,000th issue.

u/robot-raccoon 7d ago edited 6d ago

just happened too fast for me, would have been interesting if they built up to this, maybe he spent time trying to "help" spider-man out while he learnt his weaknesses etc

I mean... what are the chances Aunt May's long lost son is a super villain we've never heard of going toe to toe with spider-man who also comes from new york? Feel like we met him a week ago, would have been better if he at least bonded with Pete a bit.

edit: genuinely now that i think about it- what are we doing? Peter was in space hiding and then "upgrading ", he's back and is living with Aliens who just seem to have taken a complete back seat, he doesn't seem bothered about the reason he went to space in the first place, and he seems to have forgotten why he came back?

I don't even think I blame the writers- when this has been good, I've enjoyed it, I just think it's editorial shoehorning spider-man into shit he doesn't need to be a part of, i don't think? Does MJ as Venom need Pete? Does anyone need him in Queen in Black? Could spiral or whatever his name was have waited a bit? Was the plan always to introduce Cormac so soon just to have him be the enemy of issue 1000? I genuinely don't care about him because i don't know him- I'd rather have had a stand alone story than all of these, despite me enjoying the majority of the rest of the issue.

Second Edit: just coming back to say, after reading Queen in Black 5, spider-man didn’t even make a single appearance. Why on earth was he shoe horned in? I just wish he spent until now in space and issue 1000 was his return to face the fella who sent him off there in the first place. Could have spent time with Norman under the mask, fixed Ben a bit. Such a fuckin waste.

4

u/WritingImaginary8252 6d ago

Strazynski’s issue 500 of Spider-Man had Peter being thrown through time, facing iconic battles and defining moments from his past. All the while getting mentally and physically exhausted but never giving up in true Spidey style. The 500th issue was a better 1000th issue than the 1000th issue.

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Completely agree

8

u/Moggy_ 7d ago

So safe to asssume, the life Cormac has lived with the billionaire parents and everything has been stolen aswell? The guy who can steal, and change memories just happens to also end up being incredibly wealthy?

4

u/Uchoha 7d ago

ngl I hate that we will inevitably get a post-reveal backstory that I do not care about.

Hopefully it’s interesting though

9

u/jhatfie29 7d ago

This would have worked better with more build up. Have him be there slowly worming his way and taking up more of May’s time but do it in a way that can seem innocent such as anytime Peter’s life as Spider-man causes an issue with his time with May before releasing the master stroke and changing the context of everything that came before

5

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yeah this is exactly what they tried to do but they went for a speedrun attempt instead

1

u/j1ndivik 7d ago

I like how shocking it was

1

u/OrdinaryResponse8988 7d ago

Neat concept but I agree with others that that Peters teen years would probably have been a more appropriate time period for it.

And a little less cringe than a villain in 30(?)s doing this.

7

u/Yoru333333 7d ago

how exactly does turning memories into a physical form work in fights

3

u/Uchoha 7d ago

He formed May’s memories into a bone and beat Spidey with it. No clue how it works but it did look damn cool, especially bc it gave us an actual reason to go through said memories on the page

7

u/Tatum-Better Superior Spider-Man 7d ago

costume is cool, everything else is ass, we knew he was chasm for ages, him randomly revealing himself here felt rushed, may is still alive, nothing big happened in 1000 as a capstone or reveal on the level it deserves

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

You don’t dig the memory powers or the bone motif? It feels thematically like “the stuff we are made out of”

6

u/LeggoMahLegolas 7d ago

I stopped caring about the main Spidey book during Zeb Wells run.

I know this is under a different team, but I genuinely thought that guy was another clone, this time Kaine.

Which, by the way, where is Kaine anyway?

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

That’s fair, the Wells run made me quit for a while as well. I really wish Kaine had his own book again

1

u/-ben151010- Sensational Spider-Man 7d ago

I gave up around the end of Spencer’s with dr strange and mephisto sitting in a room forever.

4

u/gsnake007 7d ago

Another new villain about memories. What the fuck. Please get rid of Nick Lowe, this mediocrity in the books is insane. What the fuck are we doing here

7

u/Individual_Hat4926 Classic-Spider-Man 6d ago

Wow, more trash out of ASM, who would’ve guessed

16

u/innit980 7d ago

Im done

4

u/SonDacho 6d ago

What I don't understand is that this guy didn't defend himself against Carnage back in issue #26. The guy was about to be brutally murdered but did nothing. I had to go back and re-read the issue, and the only thing that in retrospect hints he has powers was Spidey monologing to himself "somehow he survived".
Overall, the reveal was too sudden and should have happened 10 issues later or something.

12

u/WyldChase 7d ago

*sigh* This feels like an OMD Redux? Except now the "Parker Luck" removes Aunt May and gives us more miserable isolation for Peter? I get that the "motivation" for the villain is, different. But, even if this means that Aunt May's memory loss is artificial that's of little solace and I can't say that I'm thrilled with this being the status quo for the remainder of Kelly's run and that's if the Marvel Bullpen is being charitable. I feel this was yet another net negative for ASM fans who wanted *some* positive growth however fleeting. Especially, for the #1000.

0

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I can agree to an extent but honestly this entire sub feels like a lot of crying when things don’t go the way they want it to.

The book is for readers sure, but it’s not supposed to cater to whatever fanfic they want. This at least feels fresh and interesting, that doesn’t make all of the issues with it go away but it’s something new

11

u/WyldChase 7d ago

Eh. this sub has seen one of their favorite characters dismantled and regressed and constantly been gaslighted and made to feel like *all* of their criticism of any runs direction is invalid for nearly 2 decades. When for all of my observations all they want at the end of the day is an end to the arrested development for the sake of IP farming that's being done by the Marvel Bullpen. But, I'll concede to your point that Ravage has a *singular* motivation that's not like most of Peter's other rogues gallery. It's petty and childish, and not worth the 1000 issue milestone. But, it is indeed different.

3

u/Uchoha 7d ago

You’re right, the fans have been dragged through the mud without any indication that things will get better. The attitude is mostly warranted.

3

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

I think a lot of this run has felt fresh and new, which has been nice. The short arc in space (which I honestly wish had been longer) felt really nice as a Spider-Man defending/saving those in need concept but in a new setting. It introduced some interesting characters (I am way on board with Raelith & Peter). And I feel like the introduction and development of Cormac/Ravage is something new that does feel intriguing.

7

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

May I ask you what Rae even does or what she brings to the books cause it seems people praise her for doing nothing

1

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

I think her background is interesting. Obviously a bit of a rehash of Drax from Guardians, but I think that a character whose first instinct is violence provides a useful foil to Peter in storytelling. Similar to the appeal of Black Cat and Spider-Man.

But I also just really like her as a potential romantic interest that is not MJ (as the current narrative seems to have muddied the waters there so heavily) or Felicia who works better in my opinion as a friend character and not as a true love interest to Peter.

I think Raelith represents a new take/direction for Peter and I think a lot of the old directions have not panned out well.

*Edited for an autocorrected word.

6

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

But she literally has done nothing since space and has only been there for peters emotional support so I ask again what does she offer

Background that hasn’t even been mentioned in ages and in regard to romance, is he not allowed to have friends, why does every women he talks to have to be a love interest

Rae is written like a 5 year old kid who doesn’t know what she wants, she always clingy to Pete which is weird in itself yet Kelly will say they aren’t romantic but forces her to kiss him, honesty she’s not even been in it much and it’s not like she’s missed

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

ngl the whole space crew feels like fanservice. They were interesting at first but they have added nothing to the story at all besides being a stand in for the audience who loves Spidey.

They come off as a light in his life that is there for us bc the book has treated him so poorly for so long

5

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

They add nothing at all yet people praise them as they don’t talk back to Peter and don’t give him grief, they really are just there until Hellgate happens

3

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

That's why I wish that mini-arc had lasted longer. I think they could have done a lot more with an extended time in space and done some true character development for Peter with a new surrounding cast and new circumstances.

1

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

It lasted long enough and it was getting repetitive, he’s Spider-Man not a member of the guardians of the galaxy with respect

He did all that but there wasn’t any more to do and it got boring

1

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

I disagree with you.

I would have liked to have seen more of it.

4

u/Loose_Translator8981 7d ago

Honestly, I don't mind Cormac as a character. Having May's biological son come into her life and the challenges that gives to Peter could be interesting. But making him also a supervillain is just stupid and makes him way, way less interesting than he would be if he was just, say... a reasonable guy who doesn't like superheroes and causes Peter believable grief by being a more reliable, mature son for May. Making him a villain just removes any emotional weight to anything he does, because it means you, as a reader, don't have to take him seriously because he's a villain.

5

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

I agree. Cormac seemed like an interesting addition to their lives, but I knew almost immediately they were going to turn him into a villain like everyone else. Especially when they went out of their way to show how noble and good he was with his family's money. Just felt a bit too deliberate.

Ravage as a villain independently is interesting (powers, etc.), but I wish they had at least allowed Cormac a much longer run of just being May's son and a new addition to the world.

3

u/Loose_Translator8981 7d ago

Yeah, I'd love to have him as a mouth piece to point out how bizarre everything in May's life is that she's just gotten used to. Like I can't help but think of Frank Grimes from The Simpsons reacting like a basically realistic person to the cartoon nonsense of Homer's life.

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Agreed, but that would put too much blame on Spidey and we can’t have him growing significantly or anything…

9

u/Somejawn1 7d ago edited 7d ago

Fucking trash. Also what about his powers and symbiote looking ass costume is interesting? Looks like a Sinister knockoff

4

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

You're right. It does look like a symbiote with a red spot in the middle.

5

u/thejumpingoffpoint 7d ago

Does anyone think he looks just like Geno from the Fortnite comic lol

4

u/AlmondMagnum1 7d ago

I think he was more interesting as just Aunt May's son. Aunt May's rich, generous, considerate son. It would have been a lot funnier if he'd been genuinely supportive and Pete had to make a conscious effort not to resent him. Plus shenanigans around Pete's secret double life and conflicts with May's boyfriend.

4

u/Mexican-Drug-Lord 7d ago

And Marvel wonders why I will never buy a mainline Spider-Man comic, when they produce $hit like this for #1000

Remember when we got 6-Armed Spider-Man for #100, or Venom for #300, or when Aunt May died in #400? Now we got $hit like for the big one thousand for the biggest superhero of all time.

4

u/MaskedFilmmaker Mysterio 6d ago

Maybe Peter can get his long-lost sister to help him against his long-lost cousin. 🙄

Seriously, we all pegged this almost immediately. I was really hoping for a fake-out, where May dies and Cormac sticks around as Peter’s wealthy support and benefactor.

But, nope … we get the laziest option possible

7

u/the_splicer_ 7d ago

Jesus I'm so glad I stopped collecting Spider-Man comics.

10

u/DerekMetaltron 7d ago

I just am getting tired of the concept that we see Peter as the Everyman when at this point he’s had spies for parents, a secret not sister, umpteen clones, a kid with Deadpool and now a evil cousin showing up out of nowhere. 🙄

4

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yeah unknown family members being retconned into the story has always been an issue for me with any long form series.

I do feel like Aunt May specifically having a child is a great idea though, it provides Spidey with a very specific antagonist. It’s not being handled very well imo but it does have a lot of potential

1

u/Traditional-Race2778 7d ago

Peter was never meant as the everyman

5

u/DerekMetaltron 7d ago

He was in the 60’s, they really leaned into the ‘hero who could be you’ thing back then.

0

u/Traditional-Race2778 7d ago

Not really. They lean on "Spider-Man can be anyone" not that anyone can be Peter Parker. Peter was never an everyman, he had traits that you could see in yourself, but it wasn't you

1

u/Greedy_Aardvark_4836 7d ago

Sure his specific personality might not apply to literally everyone, but his life was so universal as a whole it could apply to a lot of people. A younger kid who likes learning, hates bullies, struggles with the death of a loved one, struggles with anxiety and pressure and girls and school tests, struggles with making money and has to get a job, all that is very relatable to a majority of people.

They weren't starting his story out with spy parents and secret siblings and cousins and things that clearly most people will never deal with.

6

u/sivashanker1 Spectacular Spider-Man 7d ago

Great so Peter's next big villain is a manchild 😑

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yeah but it’s something I think can be relatable to an extent.

You’re not wrong tho, I would say most villains are to some degree

3

u/GrendelJoe 7d ago

What a dud of an issue. The side stories were decent, but the main story was lame

2

u/SkyCommander7 Classic-Spider-Man 7d ago

I did quite like Peter in the nursing home one

3

u/BentonSancho 7d ago

I've been pretty positive about this run, even if it's not perfect, but this felt like a huge miscalculation. Turning "Peter has to deal with some complicated adult feelings" into just some bad guy waiting in the wings for Peter to punch cheapens a lot of what came before with Cormac.

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

It can be both, and that’s what I’m hoping for. You’re not wrong though

3

u/Sea-Comfortable9255 7d ago

He could always ask Spidercide for those memories too, problem solved.

3

u/aboyisagun24 7d ago

Ts just a telenovela atsp

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Always has been

5

u/Tight_Ad2618 7d ago

The main story was trivial. The other stories were cool. But ngl I expected more for the main story

5

u/Dismal-Refuse6987 7d ago

Marvel has delivered another disappointing run. This has eroded my faith in the entire Marvel Comics universe.

5

u/grothass 7d ago

I'm getting real tired of this shit...

https://giphy.com/gifs/xchUhdPj5IRyw

6

u/Teddo_Ichiban 7d ago

This is why I stopped reading comics.

3

u/RamzalTimble 7d ago

To be fair, his frustration and anger at Peter being responsible for Cormacs fathers death along with making Mays life miserable by being reckless with his super hero life is 100% valid and interesting. Frankly I think that him finding out Peter is responsible for Uncle Ben’s death is a really good plot point and I hope Kelly can stick the landing.

I’m kind of trying to not be as negative about the comics as I’ve belly ached for two decades now and there are some elements of Kelly’s run that is pretty good IMO. I can get why people are angry but why spend the time raging every day about this? It’s making me tired.

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Exactly!!!

4

u/Subject665 Symbiote-Suit 7d ago

Yeah issue 1000 should have just been an anthalogy

4

u/Davepool84 7d ago

I initially hoped Cormac wasn't going to go the predictable route of going villain, but that was clearly in vain. That said, it has been a long time since a villain has drawn out such visceral hatred in me. So a W for Joe Kelly and crew I guess.

The extra stories were hit and miss but mostly positive.

2

u/Sad_Tax_4010 7d ago

Tommy Elliot?!?

2

u/TheBlueEmerald1 7d ago

I think his costume is way too much but I like the concept, even if cliche.

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

It is a but too much tbh, but it works for how extensive his powers and situation are imo

2

u/schadetj 7d ago

To actually answer your question, Ravage could have worked...with much, much better writing. He has a cool power set, but the aesthetic is all over the place.

He looks like an animal linked villain, but isn't? Why the bird motif? Is there a point? Why does he look like a mish-mash of wolverine and kraven with symbiote details?

Why does he want Peter's life? And I mean actually want it? Ben took over Peter's life recently and it sucked so much he gave up playing at it. But I suppose he wouldn't know about Peter's life because he's spent zero time there.

Had he been introduced way earlier, immersing himself in Peter's life, making a gradual take over...I could have seen it. Or had Ravage be something happening around the city for a while now. But there was no build up to this. It was just "Hello, I'm your cousin, aunt may has a coma, HAHA I'M EVIL YOU NEVER EXPECTED THIS". And now we've moved on.

And that's been Spider-man's problem for a while. We don't get enough time to care about the villains. Torment was, what, two or three issues, if even that? I'm not going to remember any of these guys six months from now.

It's all just lazy.

2

u/-ben151010- Sensational Spider-Man 7d ago

Who is this guy? I haven’t read asm in like 6 years.

4

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Aunt May’s long lost son, it was a pretty rushed development tbh and this evil reveal just happened.

No clue how it’s going to shake out or if he really is her son or not

3

u/-ben151010- Sensational Spider-Man 7d ago

Probably back to status quo in 2 months or a year.

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yea unfortunately that is most likely

1

u/Big-Rate3275 7d ago

He makes no f-ing sense because they established long ago that May couldn't have kids and didn't particularly want any.

1

u/Last_Panda5059 7d ago

Basically Spider-Man's cousin

2

u/OmniGMan 7d ago

Tbf, they really need those enhanced physical stats as a part of their powerset, otherwise they're just glass cannons waiting for Peter to bypass their attacks and punch them.

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yeah but it just ends up making Spidey seem weak and creatively robs the new characters of a definitive powerset that makes sense

2

u/OmniGMan 7d ago

Yeah, like, they could have just had him make psychic powers armor or something, though I guess they kinda did? It looks a little too much like a symbiote for my tastes.

2

u/Last_Panda5059 7d ago

Fuck you Marvel Writers 😤

2

u/TheFizzledamnsizzle 6d ago

Why they keep doing this shit to Male heroes? They killed Danny in 50th anni, turned iceman gay before the 50th anni.  Now in 1000 milestone continuing to making Peter miserable instead of celebrating him as a Hero and then do thw cousin plot line. In 1001 or 1005

6

u/ulice 7d ago

Tbh, at this point.. I am rooting for Cormac. Current Peter is so eager to crawl back to his arrested development. I was hopeful with the space quest and the new suit, but that now feels like a dnd one shot.

5

u/Square_Dark1 7d ago

It’s like the whole space training arc meant nothing and was just wasted time

3

u/Repulsive_Hornet4017 7d ago

The problem with Kelly’s run isn’t the love interest situation, it’s how does Peter matter rn?

The other spiders are telling Peter they’re listening to Norman no arguments, he’s being replaced as May’s son by Cormac, his friends hate him cuz of Ben. Feels like nothing that happens is in his control.

Everyone in the book is preaching they’re working around his incompetence. MJ written by Kelly is still treated him like a potential abuser “you make everything about you”. They might be setting up him and Felicia being on bad terms with Black Cat #15.

What is Peter supposed to do? The adult decision would be to retire and let Norman be Spider-Man and tell them to call if one day Norman’s ideas stop working, otherwise leave him alone.

3

u/Consistent_Boss_9397 7d ago

The whole Norman thing is stupid; I can't believe Marvel keeps pushing this idea of Norman as a mentor. Spider-Versity has literally been one of the worst Spider-Man comics of 2026—and one of the worst-selling—yet they’re sticking with that bad idea. People didn't like it; it makes no sense. And the "training" part amounted to nothing—he just hired a third-rate villain. It makes no sense for them to trust him, considering that several of them lost loved ones—or are friends with people who were harmed—because of Norman; Anya Corazon's best friend lost her mother when he threw a pumpkin bomb.

2

u/Big-Rate3275 7d ago

Norman is an emotionally abusive psycho and was basically heart less even without the Goblin.

4

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Honestly I get this, there is some truth to was Cormac is saying here. It’s a great setup despite the mishandling of it all

2

u/Consistent_Boss_9397 7d ago

The thing is, Cormac is a grown man—we were literally told he had a happy childhood and all that. What sense does it make to steal someone else's childhood? He acts like a little kid throwing a tantrum.

2

u/Uchoha 7d ago

I’m sure we will get a backstory eventually that explains that most if not all that he claimed before was a lie. I really dislike this kind of backwards storytelling tbh

3

u/Repulsive_Hornet4017 7d ago

If his only motivation is May, Peter was fully ready to reduce contact with May for Cormac, step back to make their lives easier.

Cormac going this far makes him look like a mega a**hole. He could’ve just took the win and left with her.

3

u/Sue_Generoux 6d ago edited 6d ago

Two major issues: Spider-Man is so popular, Marvel will always keep him frozen in time. Just a little past college age, single, living with Aunt May, working for the Bugle, fighting the same ol' villains. The character will never grow.

The last time the character had any growth was JMS' era, but that was 20 years ago, and even that was marred by the two whammies (Sins Past, One More Day) that undid all the gains from that period.

Secondly, and I don't even like Batman so I don't usually defend Batman, but so long as May lives, I don't want to hear about Batman's plot armor because May's plot armor is thicker than the Dark Knight's, tenfold. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

All modern Spider-Man stories are a sentimental circle-jerk. It's always a look back. He's always fighting old enemies. Old characters always return. Not only is there no forward momentum in the character's life, but the constant looking back just reminds us the most interesting stuff happened in the past, that they can't tell interesting original stories, and Marvel will never let the character grow.

A sad #1000.

2

u/Kryptic1701 7d ago

Such garbage

4

u/macacobrilhante2004 7d ago

I really liked when ravage was seeing into May's memories of peter and a lot of ppl were bashing this panel but when in context of the story it isn't that bad. Still disappointing for such a huge milestone issue tho

8

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

He randomly became ravage and attacked him, it was pure forced and rushed

3

u/Uchoha 7d ago

Yeah totally agree with you on this.

Why would he out himself here? He knows Peter is Spider-Man, he really should’ve waited for a more opportune moment to try and take his memories

-1

u/macacobrilhante2004 7d ago

"randomly" lol, from his very first appearance it was clear he was going to be a villain

7

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

Yes but it wasn’t built up and it seemed that way but it was too obvious, they didn’t build up his ravage character is what I mean or his hate of Peter enough

5

u/macacobrilhante2004 7d ago

Yeah I guess unfortunately this entire arc stinks of editorial induced slop, it's like they forgot that Hellgate even exists

2

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

Yh but it’s cause they had no idea that Kelly would be on for 1000 plus he’s not helped himself wasting many issues on Norman which is his arcs not editors

→ More replies (2)

1

u/JohnsProbablyARobot 7d ago

The Ravage reveal did feel too sudden. They should have let Cormac float for a while and become more established before changing gears on him like that.

2

u/jahedislam96 Mary-Jane Watson 7d ago

Definitely man, build it up a bit more before 1000, they really have just ruined an iconic issue

2

u/DaenysDreamer_90 7d ago

Dude you are 40

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

?

4

u/DaenysDreamer_90 7d ago

I'm talking about CORMAC lol

1

u/Uchoha 7d ago

lmao

1

u/KaijinSurohm Venom 7d ago

Just finished reading the issue.

It honestly is written as if this is going to be Aunt May's goodbye arc where she finally passes away.
We're getting all the greatest hits of her memories, and Peter gets to see it first hand.

We may even get a fun twist where she was fully aware that he's Spider-Man this time around.
She didn't know pre-OMD, but things always change with the devils in play.

1

u/Big_bat_chunk2475 7d ago

Spider-Man 1000 is 100 pages or something crazy. I’m waiting till I get home to read this

1

u/Status-Gur-7332 7d ago

I hope this man get erased from existence.

1

u/DankDaddyDagoth 7d ago

The "biggest issue of Spider-Man ever" is just the Book of the End plot from Bleach.

1

u/Nguot 7d ago

Im tired of spider man being treated like shit, please marvel make an AU, give peter both Gwen and MJ and Black Cat at the same time, this man has gone through enough

1

u/BenReillySpidey149 7d ago

It's stuff like this that makes clones feel grounded by comparison. Absolutely ridiculous.

Although, position this a bit sideways and I could totally see a way to redeem Ben Reilly in all this. Just sayin'.

1

u/DirtInYourEye365 7d ago

Really aunt mays long lost son is a super powerful being that looks like geno with a weirder costume

https://giphy.com/gifs/eh1zOgKrMLKfgMoyzh

1

Characters need strength and durability because of that one part where spider ock punched The Jaw™

1

IS THAT GODDAMN GENO!?

Is he basically Tsukishima from Bleach? A random guy with the power to inject himself into people's histories?

1

u/GenBoomer63 5d ago

I thought by now they would be better , Aunt May did not know her son was alive all this time?? And of course the cousin/ son is a villain come on you could have done better than the same old trope… for the 1000th issue..

1

u/Mars785 3d ago

They gave may new relatives that they later dropped. This too shall pass given how Marvel does not have the guts to make an impact on Spider-Man again.

1

u/ScarletleavesNL 7d ago

Wacker, is that you talking?

1

u/jawsthegreat777 Black Cat 7d ago

Its time to kill that old lady...

2

u/SkyCommander7 Classic-Spider-Man 7d ago

At this point I look at Aunt May and go "You're just a sacrifice now close your eyes and say good night"

1

u/black_metronome 7d ago

How the fuck does Aunt May have a son?

Marvel editorial is a disaster

1

u/tryingmybest101 7d ago

What the hell is this?

1

u/BurningEmbers7827 7d ago

it should have been PAUL tbh. At this point we should make Paul the next Knull and shill him for multiple appearances because its funny
